Yeah, if you're hoping to build a franchise off it, fine. But start by making Good Movies and let the larger story develop around them, rather than starting with The Franchise and then trying to shoehorn everything into those constraints.

Problem is, they started their franchise with MOS, which was a terrible characterization of one of the triumvirate of DC heroes they should build their Franchise on. Part of the whole Trinity thing is the differences in what the characters mean to the people of the DC universe.

Superman represents hope and that boy scout "Truth and Justice" thing. The Light if you will.

Batman has always represented the hero who will deal with criminals on their own level, without actually crossing certain lines. The Dark.

Wonder Woman has represented compassion and the balance point between the other 2. the gray as it were.

instead we got The Dark, The Darker in the first 2. Then hope, light, compassion in one person.

This guy does a good job explaining the problems DC is having from a different perspective.  Basically he argues that the DC team is made up of people who aren't really comic book fans, who don't know the characters very well, and as a result they are putting property out that misleads and confuses viewers

He points out a few things like how in JL, Batman doesn't save a single innocent person. Also, why Kill Bill's portrayal of Superman is full of crap

The video I linked above talks about Aquaman.  Basically he makes the case that all the jokes and perception of Aquaman are from that awful Superfriends show.  That this is where people get their perception and mindless pop culture puking writers like the Family Guy team spew that over and over until its just assumed Aquaman is a joke that talks to fish.  He points out that you have to set up and teach people about your version of the characters -- and make them good -- in media before you can go anywhere with them.  Which DC didn't really do.

I enjoy and still enjoy Superfriends. The scripts were mostly juvenile to be sure and the animation is primitive by today's standards, but some of the story ideas were surprisingly clever. Challenge of the Superfriends also gave us the Legion of Doom...which finally gave us a good look a some iconic DC villains. And the voice actors for Black Manta and Grodd were great.

It is significant to me that the government steps in to control or stop mergers of corporations but does not seem to care that every single entertainment outlet on planet earth is controlled by an ever-smaller group of massive corporations.  Literally everything in the USA that's entertainment or media is split between like 3 huge companies.  And each merger, they get bigger.

With respect, as far as movies go that's a bit of exaggeration. There are a few big players, yes; but there are many other smaller production companies regularly turning out films, often on subjects which don't fit the mass-market approach of bigger studios. And even Disney has allowed its subsidiary studios, like Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm, to largely follow their own visions. As long as they make money, of course. ;)

Turn Chewbacca into a Disney princess?

Disney's entire strategy is to control enough content that they can pull it from other distribution channels and force it onto their own.  It's the Star Trek Discovery/CBS All Access strategy writ large.  IIRC Netflix is already on notice that they're going to lose access to Disney properties.  If content creators all go vertical like this, mankind loses out because we will have to individually subscribe to each service if we want to be able to watch everything.

It'll become especially relevant when Net Neutrality dies today because that will effectively turn the internet into a giant extension of the cable/streaming network, where Comcast and Verizon get a say in what you watch and what you pay for it.
