Question: Optional Range Modifiers

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me the formula to extend the Optional Range Modifiers Table from page 38 of 6e2?

Example:

 Standard Range Modifiers
 Range     0-8m     9-16m     17-32m     33-64m     65-125m  129-250m
 RMOD     0          -2           -4             -6             -8            -10

 Optional Range Modifiers
 Range    0-1m      2-8m       9-12m      13-16m     17-24m     25-32m   33-48m
 RMOD    0           0            -1             -2             -3             -4           -5

Take the normal Range Increment, split it in half, add one to each half instead of 2 to the whole thing.  So 48-64m would be -6.

EDIT: Or did you mean an actual mathematical formula to project out some distant Range Penalty?

 RMOD    0           0            -1             -2             -3             -4           -5

It's interesting to note the slightly different breakpoints that were created as a result of the change from Inches/Hexes to Meters.

from 5er page 374

OPTIONAL RANGE MODIFIERS

Range Modifier

Adjacent -0

2-4” -0

5-6” -1

7-8” -2

9-12” -3

13”-16” -4

17”-24” -5

and so forth

I just double the Endpoint of the range two steps before. This works once you get past the -0 level. To make things easier at higher ranges change the limit at the -8 level to 125 (I also change the -11 level to 375m just to deal in rounder numbers later). Here is what it would look like out to 1km.

0-8m = -0

9-12m = -1

13-16m = -2

17-24m = -3

25-32m = -4

33-48m = -5

49-64m = -6

65-96m = -7

97-125m = -8

126-188m = -9

189-250m = -10

251-375m = -11

301-500m = -12

501-750m = -13

751-1km = -14

and so on...
