Now, when I was just a little boy,
Standin' to my Daddy's knee,
My poppa said, "Son, don't let the man get you
Do what he done to me."
'Cause he'll get you,
'Cause he'll get you now, now.
And I can remember the fourth of July,
Runnin' through the backwood, bare.
And I can still hear my old hound dog barkin',
Chasin' down a hoodoo there.
Chasin' down a hoodoo there.

Born on the Bayou;
Born on the Bayou;
Born on the Bayou.

Wish I was back on the Bayou.
Rollin' with some Cajun Queen.
Wishin' I were a fast freight train,
Just a chooglin' on down to New Orleans.

Born on the Bayou;
Born on the Bayou;
Born on the Bayou.

Do it, do it, do it, do it. Oh, Lord.
Oh get back boy.

I can remember the fourth of July,
Runnin' through the backwood bare.
And I can still hear my old hound dog barkin',
Chasin' down a hoodoo there.
Chasin' down a hoodoo there.

Born on the Bayou;
Born on the Bayou;
Born on the Bayou.

All right! Do, do, do, do.
Mmmmmmm, oh.

Take off your hat
Kick off your shoes,
I know you ain't going anywhere.
Run 'round the town
Singing your blues
I know you ain't going anywhere.

You have always been
A good friend of mine
But you're always saying farewell
And the only time that you are satisfied
Is with your feet in the wishing well.

Throw down your gun
You might shoot yourself,
Or is that what you are tryin' to do,
Put up a fight
You believe to be right
And someday the sun will shine through.

You have always got
Something to hide
Something you just can't tell
And the only time that you are satisfied
Is with your feet in the wishing well.

Oh!
But I know what you're wishing for
Love and a peaceful world
Yeah
Love and a peaceful world
Oh! Yeah
Love and a peaceful world

You have always been
A good friend of mine
But you're always saying farewell
And the only time that you are satisfied
Is with your feet in the wishing....well.

Yes
I wish you well
I wish you well
Everybody has a wish
Everybody has a dream
I wish you well.

Outside the rain begins
And it may never end
So cry no more
On the shore a dream
Will take us out to sea
For ever more
For ever more

Close your eyes ami
And you can be with me
'Neath the waves
Through the caves of hours
Long forgotten now
We're all alone
We're all alone

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be all right
No need to bother now
Let it out let it all begin
Learn how to pretend

Once a story's told
It can't help but grow old
Roses do lovers too so cast
Your seasons to the wind
And hold me dear
Oh hold me dear

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be all right
No need to bother now
Let it out let it all begin
Alls forgotten now
We're all alone
All alone

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out let it all begin
Throw it to the wind my love
Hold me dear

All's forgotten now my love
We're all alone....

Put your lovin' hand out, baby
I'm beggin'
Beggin', put your lovin' hand out, baby
Beggin' you, put your lovin' hand out, baby
Ridin' high when I was king
Played it hard and fast cause I had everything
Walked away, wonderin' then
But easy come and easy go and it would end
I'm beggin' you, won't you give your hand out, baby
Beggin', put your lovin' hand out, baby
I need you to understand
That I tried so hard to be a man
The kind of man you'd want in the end
Only then can I begin to live again
An empty shell I used to be
Shadow of my life is hangin' over me
Broken man that I don't know
Will leave it standing, devil's dancing with my soul
Beggin' you, won't you give your hand out, baby
Beggin', put your lovin' hand out, baby
I'm fightin' hard to hold my own
No, I just can't make it all alone
I'm holdin' on, I can't fall back
Now that big brass ring is a shade of black
I'm beggin' you, give your hand out, baby
Beggin', won't you put your lovin' hand out, baby

Oh I can see there ain't no room for me
You're only holding out your heart in sympathy
If there's another man, then girl I understand
Go on and take his hand and don't you worry bout me
I'll be blue and I'll be crying too
But girl you know I only want what's best for you
What good is all my pride if our true love has died
Go on and be his bride and don't you worry bout me
I'll be strong I'll try to carry on
Although you know it won't be easy when you're gone
I'll always think of you, the tender love we knew
But somehow I'll get through so don't you worry bout me
Oooh, baby
Sweetie pie before you say goodbye
Remember if he ever leaves you high and dry
Don't cry alone in pain, don't ever feel ashamed
If you want me again just don't you worry bout me
I love you no matter what you do
I'll spend my whole life waiting if you want me to
And if this is good-bye you know I'd rather die
Than let you see me cry cause then you'd worry bout me
I'll be strong I'll try to carry on
Although you know it won't be easy when you're gone
I'll always think of you, the tender love we knew
But somehow I'll get through so don't you worry bout me
I'll be strong I'll try to carry on
Although you know it won't be easy when you're gone
I'll always think of you, the tender love we knew
But somehow I'll get through so don't you worry bout me

Well, you know I've got to find it
It's on a dark deserted street
But you know I have to time it
Driver, can you help me?
Looking for the Club Michelle

Well, our eyes met very slowly
As we stared back through the crowd
We just started dancing

And they played that song
Crazy song
I hear it again
I can still hear em' singing

(Whoa-oh-oh)
And they played that song
(At the Club Michelle)
It went on and on and on
(Whoa-oh-oh)
I remember it oh so well
Dancing at the Club Michelle

Then we moved into a corner
We were looking for a better room
There were just so many people
And just when we started talking

They played that song again
And we both got so confused
And they played it kind of loud
Enough to hear the crowd

(At the Club Michelle)
Everybody kept on singing
(Whoa-oh-oh)
Everybody kept on dancing
(At the Club Michelle)
And I lost the girl
It was somewhere calle the Club Michelle

But I know it's around here somewhere, somewhere
On the corner, maybe make a right
Yes, I know I've got to find that girl

I'm gonna keep looking
I'm going to find it
Wait a minute, can you hear that now?
I think I hear her singing

(At the Club Michelle)
Everybody's still dancing
(At the Club Michelle)
Dancing to the music
(Whoa-oh-oh)
And I found my baby
Dancing at the Club Michelle

Every time that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by like dusk to dawn

Isn't that the way?
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay

Yeah, I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know
How to win

Half my life's in books' written pages
Live and learn from fools and from sages
You know it's true
All the things come back to you

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream until your dream come true
Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream until your dream come true

Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on, ah

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

A shooting star fell down to earth
Lightning cracked the sky
Something weird is happening
Something I can't deny

A strange kind of magic
Running through my brain
Feel I'm in heaven
Or going insane

'Cause everytime we touch
I get this feeling
And everytime we kiss
I swear, I could fly

Can't you hear my heart beat fast
I want this to last
Need you by my side

'Cause everytime we touch
I feel the static
And everytime we kiss
I reach for the sky

Can't you hear my heart beat so
I can't let you go
Want you in my life

The wind was like a hurricane
Storm clouds filled the sky
I heard a crash of thunder
The earth shook in reply

A strange kind of magic
Running through my brain
Feel like I'm in heaven
Or going insane

'Cause everytime we touch
I get this feeling
And everytime we kiss
I swear, I could fly

Can't you hear my heart beat fast
I want this to last
Need you by my side

'Cause everytime we touch
I feel the static
And everytime we kiss
I reach for the sky

Can't you hear my heart beat so
I can't let you go
Want you in my life

'Cause everytime we touch
I get this feeling
And everytime we kiss
I swear, I could fly

Can't you hear my heart beat fast
I want this to last
Need you by my side

'Cause everytime we touch
I feel the static
And everytime we kiss
I reach for the sky

Can't you hear my heart beat so
I can't let you go

I've been walkin' these streets so long
Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway
Where hustle's the name of the game
And nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain
There's been a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone

Well, I really don't mind the rain
And a smile can hide all the pain
But you're down when you're ridin' the train
That's takin' the long way
And I dream of the things I'll do
With a subway token and a dollar tucked inside my shoe
There'll be a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Rhinestone cowboy
Gettin' cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Gettin' cards and letters from people I don't even know....

Midnight on the water
I saw the ocean's daughter
Walking on a wave she came
Staring as she called my name

And I can't get it out of my head
No, I can't get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
'Cause I can't get it out of my head

Breakdown on the shoreline
Can't move. It's an ebb tide
Morning don't get here tonight
Searching for her silver light

And I can't get it out of my head
No, I can't get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
'Cause I can't get it out of my head
No, no

Bank job in the city
Robin Hood, William Tell, Ivanhoe and Lancelot
They don't envy me
Sitting 'til the sun goes down
In dreams the world keeps going round and round

And I can't get it out of my head
No, I can't get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
'Cause I can't get it out of my head
No, no

No, I can't get it out of my head
No, I can't get it out of my head
Now my old world is gone for dead
'Cause I can't get it out of my head
No, no, no, no

Look at me
I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree
Ah, I'm walking on a cloud
I can't understand, Lord
I'm misty holding your hand

Walk my way
And a thousand violins begin to play
Or it might be the sound of your hello
That music I hear, Lord
I'm misty the moment you're near

You can say that you're leading me on
But it's just what I want you to do
Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm following you, ooh

On my own
Should I wander through this wonderland alone, now
Never knowing my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove, Lord
I'm misty and too much in love

You can say that you're leading me on
But it's just what I want you to do
Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm following you, ooh

On my own
Should I wander through this wonderland alone, now
Never knowing my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove, Lord
I'm misty, and too much in love

(Misty) Too much in love
(Misty) Too much in love
(Misty)
(Misty) Too much in love

Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah

Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact, it was a little bit frightening
But they fought with expert timing

There were funky China men from funky Chinatown
They were chopping them up
They were chopping them down
It's an ancient Chinese art
And everybody knew their part
From a feigning to a slip
And a kickin' from the hip

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightening
But they fought with expert timing

There was funky Billie Chin and little Sammy Chong
He said, here comes the big boss, let's get it on
We took the bow and made a stand
Started swaying with the hand
A sudden motion made me skip
Now we're into a brand new trip

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightening
But they did it with expert timing

Oh-hoh-hoh-hoh, ha
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoh, ha
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoh-ha
Keep on, keep on, keep on
Sure enough

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightening
Make sure you have expert timing
Kung Fu fighting, had to be fast as lightning...

Tony Banks was the keyboard player for a small English band known as Genesis.

Jimmy Buffet is known for "Margaritaville", and a chain of restaurants bearing that name.

Jonathan Coulton wrote the song, "Still Alive" from the video game, Portal. He also has a vast number of folk/comedy songs.

Quarterflash is an American band best known for "Harden My Heart", which got a lot of play back in the day on MTV and various Top-40 radio outlets here in the States.

I can't say that I've listened to Mud.

Slade is known in the States mainly through the band, Quiet Riot, which performed many of their songs as covers.

T Rex is considered something of a one-hit wonder here in the US, for "Get It On (Bang a Gong)", which was later covered by The Power Station. They are name-dropped in the lyrics to "You Better You Bet" by the Who.

Many thanks for this.

The only ones in Genesis I know are Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel.

Mud were part of the Glam Rock movement in Britain along with T Rex, Slade, Gary Glitter, Slade et al. Mud and Slade also had Christmas No 1s with Christmas themed records. T Rex also had several No 1s. As the American posters have included important American records so I have included important British ones.

A lot of what might ne termed the usual suspects have multiple entries, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and the Beach Boys for example. But acts who are essentially one hot wonders in say Britain have multiple entries because they had more success in their home country.

However explain this:-

Why is it that the British guy is the one posting the bulk of Presley lyrics ?

And aren't KISS popular at all ?

Page 125 sees the end of 2017 and the start of 2018. So over halfway. And over two thirds at time of writing.

Genesis also included Steve Hackett, who had a successful solo career and was part of the short-lived prog pop band GTR with Steve Howe of Yes, as well as Mike Rutherford, who started his own side band called Mike and the Mechanics.

In terms of some British guy posting the majority of the Elvis Presley lyrics, it's not that odd considering that he's posting most of the lyrics in general. That's just statistics.

Probably. But I've never cared for them particularly.

I’m not a huge fan of theirs but I do like a few songs...Rock & Roll All Night and Beth for example.  But the one album I really like is Music From The Elder.  It was the last one they did before losing the make up.
It was a concept album about a young boy being trained to use magic in order to join a secret order defending the dimension.  Very D&D, Fantasy kind of stuff.

(In honor of Mom, a life-long Parrothead.)

Live, relive, learn to forgive
Time just keeps slippin' away
Live, relive, learn to forgive
Live like it's your last day

Cats have nine lives and eons to play
Planets and stars are light years away
Their cosmic clock ticks and it tocks
Here in the Milky Way

Just like a whirlpool, the universe has rules
There's no rehearsal or cosmic reversal
You can pray or stand still
Or grab one last cheap thrill
But here's all I have to say

Live like it's your last day
Sing karaoke and sip some Rosé
This won't last forever
But if you're clever
You just might sail away
And live like it's your last day

Fuel the jet now, don't delay
Bucket lists are just cliché
No acts of contrition
Or asking for permission
You'll have lots of options this way

Live, relive, learn to forgive
Time just keeps slippin' away
Live, relive, learn to forgive
Live like it's your last day

What you want, what you dream
What you might have heard
Was beyond your reach
(Oh, live)
On the water, on the wind
On the move, on the edge, or maybe on the beach
(Oh, just live)
For the chance or the dance
Or the new romance in every single day
(Come on and live)
For the joy, or the buzz, or maybe just because
I can't think of a reason not to

Live, relive, learn to forgive
Time just keeps slippin' away
(Time just keeps slippin' away)
Live, relive, learn to forgive
Live like it's your last day
Time just keeps slipping away

You got your Tony Lama's on your jeans pressed tight
You take a few tokes make you feel alright
Rockin' and a rollin' on a Livingston Saturday Night

Pickup's washed and you just got paid
With any luck at all you might even get laid
'Cause they're pickin' and a kickin' on a Livingston Saturday night

So won't you listen to the sound of a hot country band,
Boot heels are shufflin' on the dance floor Sam
Sing a song, play some pong, shoot a little pool,
Hittin' on the honeys right out of high school
Yeah, fifteen may get you twenty,
But that's all right,
'Cause they be rockin and a rollin'
On a Livingston Saturday Night

Wooo, listen to the sound of a hot country band,
Boot heels are shufflin' on the dance floor Sam
Hum a song, play some pong, eat a deviled egg,
Temperature is rising, better pop another keg

Fifteen may get you twenty,
But that's all right
'Cause they'll be rockin' and a rollin'
On a Livingston Saturday Night

Wooo, you gotta listen to the sound of a hot country band,
Boot heels are shufflin' on the dance floor Sam
Sing some song, play some pong, eat a deviled egg

Fifteen may get you twenty,
That's all right
'Cause they'll be rockin' and a rollin'
On a Livingston Saturday Night

They'll be rockin' and a rollin'
On a Livingston Saturday Night
One more time
They'll be rockin' and a rollin'
On a Livingston Saturday Night

Worry the bottle Mamma, it's grapefruit wine
Kick off your high heel sneakers, it's party time
The girls don't seem to care what's on
As long as they play 'til dawn
Nothin' but blues and Elvis
And somebody else's favorite song

Give her some funked up muzak, she treats you nice
Feed her some hungry reggae, she'll love you twice
The girls don't seem to care tonight
As long as the mood is right

No static at all (no static, no static at all)
FM (no static at all)

Give her some funked up muzak, she treats you nice
Feed her some hungry reggae, she'll love you twice
The girls don't seem to care tonight
As long as the mood is right

No static at all (no static, no static at all)
FM (no static at all)

I have a picture
Pinned to my wall
An image of you and of me and we're laughing, we're loving it all
But look at our life now
All tattered and torn
We fuss and we fight and delight in the tears that we cry until dawn
Oh, whoa

Hold me now, whoa
Warm my heart
Stay with me
Let loving start
Let loving start

You say I'm a dreamer, we're two of a kind
Both of us searching for some perfect world we know we'll never find
So perhaps I should leave here
Yeah, yeah, and go far away
But you know that there's nowhere that I'd rather be than with you here today
Oh, whoa, oh, whoa

Hold me now, whoa
Warm my heart
Stay with me
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa
Hold me now, whoa
Warm my heart
Stay with me
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa

You ask if I love you
Well, what can I say?
You know that I do and if this is just one of those games that we play
So I'll sing you a new song
Please don't cry anymore
I'll even ask your forgiveness
Though I don't know just what I'm asking it for
Oh, whoa, oh, whoa

Hold me now, whoa
(Hold me in your loving arms)
Warm my heart
(Warm my cold and tired heart)
Stay with me
(Stay with me)
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa
Hold me now, whoa
(Hold me in your loving arms)
Warm my heart
(Warm my cold and tired heart)
Stay with me
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa
Hold me now, whoa
(Hold me in your loving arms)
Warm my heart
(Warm my cold and tired heart)
Stay with me
(Stay with me)
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa
Hold me now, whoa
(Hold me in your loving arms)
Warm my heart
(Warm my cold and tired heart)
Stay with me
(Stay with me)
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa
Hold me now, whoa
(Hold me in your loving arms)
Warm my heart
(Warm my cold and tired heart)
Stay with me
(Stay with me)
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa

Come on baby, dry your eyes
Wipe your tears
Never like to see you cry
Won't you please forgive me

I wouldn't ever try to hurt you
I just needed someone to hold me
To fill the void while you were gone
To fill this space of emptiness

I'm only human
Of flesh and blood I'm made
Human
Born to make mistakes

So many nights I longed to hold you
So many times I looked and saw your face
Nothing could change the way I feel
No one else could ever take your place

I'm only human
Of flesh and blood I'm made
Human
Born to make mistakes
(I am just a man)
(Human)
(Human)
Please forgive me

(The tears I cry aren't tears of pain
They're only to hide my guilt and shame
I forgive you, now I ask the same of you
While we were apart I was human too)

I'm only human
Of flesh and blood I'm made
(I am just a man)
Human
Born to make mistakes

(Human
Human).

Qu'on me tienne la main

Qu'on me tienne la main

Qu'on me tienne la main

Aéroport, aérogare
mais pour tout l'or m'en aller
c'est le blues, l' coup d' cafard
le check out assuré
vienne la nuit et sonne l'heure
et moi je meurs
entre apathie et pesanteur
o' je demeure
changer d'optique, prendre l'exit

c'est l'osmose, on the road
de l'asphalte sous les pieds
vienne la nuit, c'est le jet lag
qui me décale
L.A.P.D. me donne un blâme
c'est pas le drame
se faire un trip, s'offrir un streap
sous le soleil en plein midi
six a.m., j'suis offset
j'suis l'ice dans l'eau, j'suis mélo, dis
mon amour, mon Wesson
mon artifice

A côté
Tous mes idéaux : des mots
Abimés...
Je cherche une âme, qui
Pourra m'aider
Je suis
D'une géneration désenchantée
Désenchantée

Qui pourrait m'empêcher
De tout entendre
Quand la raison s'effondre
A quel sein se vouer
Qui peut prétendre
Nous bercer dans son ventre

Si la mort est un mystère
La vie n'a rien de tendre
Si le ciel a un enfer
Le ciel peut bien m'attendre
Dis moi,
Dans ces vents contraires comment s'y prendre
Plus rien n'a de sens, plus rien ne va.
