Lord Liaden
You know, these particular issues have made me realize that the line between patriotism and treason is a lot blurrier than I thought. When does expressing legitimate criticism of those in power become undermining the credibility of the institutions of governance? Where does one define the point that support for lawful government crosses into collaboration with an illegitimate regime? I used to believe there was a clear answer to those questions, but in today's climate I'm not so sure any more.

Given the oftentimes fickle (some would say "morally grey") nature of humanity, sticking with policy and philosophy over party and person tends to leave one with few(er) friends in the end. Well, assuming you're not running with a crowd of one-hundred percent clear-eyed and determined folks just bursting with actual character, anyhow. On that note, i've seen the cult of personality over the last year and I must say that they disturbed me despite my steadfast inner conviction that I was too jaded to be truly surprised by any mental gymnastics my species could pull off. The first stupid thing like this happened before he was even in office, when he called Taiwan. Ignoring that whole "One China" thing. Especially for a politician as target. 37 minutes ago, Ragitsu said: There's also "What about all the women he hasn't harassed?" Trevor Noah has a interesting take on the Republican Politicians. I also can't decide which possibility is worst. TrickstaPriest

I am not even joking. Back when teh pee pee tape was first mentioned, it was my sincerest hope that would be the lowest, siliest thing this presidency could bring us. Just some funny tidbid for the History Books like Bill & Monika. Right now if what it takes to get Trump out of office is a Meterorite hitting the White House or his Golfcourse of the week, the coletteral damage could be a acceptable casualties. I am a peacefull person by every definition I know. But everytime I hear him or someone around him speak their usual insane stupidity, all I can think off is wanting to snap their necks right there. Just like Superman and Zod. Except i might not even regret it. Unlike Superman and Zod.

Sociotard
Putin would not try to blackmail Trump. Our President is too erratic (and too hates being told what to do) for blackmail to be effective. I think what Putin wants is what we see: lots of people questioning our democracy. He wants impeachment motions and unending investigations. He wants aspiring assassins. He wants riots. He wants disillusioned citizens left right and center. And he is getting what he wants. The Legitimate part is where it all lies. Claiming Obama got campaign money from ISIS or was not born in Hawai is clear rightwing bullshit. 6 of the 8 Investigations into Bengazhi had no reasons to exist. A thought I once had in the Bush Jr. days crosses my mind: The US needs a Republican to start problems (Iraq War, now Israel Conflict) That a Democrat has to fix. So you can blame the Democrat for his reallife solutions (Obama made more dronestrikes). And can vote for a Republican next time. We have somethign similar in germany: The conservate Government delayed a rework of the pension and social secutiry systems for 16 years. So the socialists had to do it. So everyone was pissed as the socialists and the conservatives got elected again after 8 years. This pattern of convervatives creating problems that the others have to fix so the consveratives get re-elected next time is really getting tiresome. Sociotard
Obama's invasion of Libya didn't go any better than Bush II's invasion of Iraq. Libya was less costly to the US, in treasure and lives, but the end state of both was a dysfunctional state embroiled in civil war, refugees, and better recruitment for terrorists.
