Starlord
VP Mike Pence will be in charge of US Coronavirus response The announcement has cast light on Pence’s record as a lawmaker and his handling of a major public health crisis during his time as governor of Indiana. The worst HIV outbreak in the state’s history happened on his watch in 2015, which critics blamed on Pence’s belated response and his opposition to authorizing a needle-exchange program. “He’s got a certain talent for this,” Trump said at a White House briefing It was nice knowing all of you. Badger
Yeah, I've heard them complaining about Trump's response (Democrats). Not sure they have a point. It isn't like Pelosi and friends noticed the coronavirus till just now. Though, Pence might be a poor choice. But, then, hey, at least we wont have to worry about needle exchange program most likely (if so, we might be screwed regardless of who is in charge). So, we take away his weakness. Pariah
It's unfortunate that this Administration doesn't have, oh, I don't know, a doctor in a high-level cabinet position that they could put in charge of something like this. Old Man
In 2018 Trump fired the entire pandemic response team and cut funding for the CDC so drastically it had to abandon disease prevention efforts in 80% of countries, including China. So long as the more affluent members of the bourgeoisie/working class identify more strongly with the Executive/Investor class, they will support and defend them against what ought to be coming to them. They may even come to believe that they are better off than their middle middle class and lower middle class brethren because they "work harder" or "work smarter" or some such meritocratic delusions. Pish tosh! In reality the 1% still won't invite you to their coolest parties, just the beat ones. And they'll give you raises just good enough to keep you "loyal". Without that (purchased) loyalty, that 1% would be extremely susceptible to turns in public sentiment. Lord Liaden
I know a lot of folks are impatient for the DNC to unite behind a candidate, but I can't help seeing this process as healthier, and more exciting, than the coronation the party gave us last time, never mind the sideshow the GOP turned out. There are actually multiple competent candidates. Debates over policy. Substantive ideas discussed. The caucuses have been competitive and unpredictable. Actual democracy is messy. It's the price we pay for giving the people a voice. Matt the Bruins, Pattern Ghost, Old Man and 1 other
