Is Trump going even further off the deep end?

The Fed chairman calls for a stimulus package.  Trump is trying to slam the door on any package before the election.  He's "promising" a package after the election.

Like anyone can trust that?

Like anyone else can be blamed if the economy nosedives?

Or is this another grandstand, and he'll reverse himself to say, see, I got it done...can't ignore that.

Still...beyond the usual narcissistic reactions, this feels simply out of control.  And Nate Silver made a point over on FiveThirtyEight

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-economy-was-trumps-one-remaining-advantage-now-he-might-have-blown-it/

that he just handed the high ground to the Democrats.  The blame now ALL goes on him.

I feel this needs to be shared.

The legend lives on from the Apprentice on down of the big oompaloompa called Donnie The Donnie, it is said, always has some bed head and he's friends with a loon named Giulani Wit

Fox News was pretty hard on Trump about that. “Tonight Donald Trump showed that if you’re unemployed, struggling to pay the rent or bills, none of that matters to him.”  Seriously, that was how they led into the story.

Biden says no debate if Trump still has COVID. Good move, in my opinion.

Why should I trust that an infected Trump wouldn't chase Biden around the stage in an effort to deliberately infect him?

Trump has already shown that he has no shame and that he doesn't mind deliberately infecting the people around him who he supposedly likes.

Honestly what would stop him from trying to deliberately infect Biden? Are we supposed to believe the debate would have bouncers who would physically control Trump?

Mayor of Miami, the host city for the debate, tells Trump he shouldn't come if he is still infected.

Specifically, his tweet says, "after I win." Just Trump's usual power-of-positive-thinking bluster, or am I the only one who reads that as a ransom note: If he doesn't win, there will be no stimulus?

(Oh, yes: The weekend's All Things Considered and On the Media talked about how Fred Trump was a huge believer in Norman Vincent Peale's Power of Positive Thinking, and passed this to Donald. If you are confident that you will succeed, you will succeed. And for Fred Trump, getting sick was a sign of weak will. It raises the possibility that Donald Trump genuinely believed that if he just kept up the happy talk and had everyone believing Covid-19 would go away, it really would. Because magic. I am not sure which thought frightens me more: That his denials were cynically done to protect business interests, or that he's sunk that deep in magical thinking. Though I suppose both are possible.)

I would agree that in this case and every case with Trump it is all just bluster, but I would disagree that positive outlook and attitude is 'magical' and can't help you overcome illness or poor health.

Well, stress and despair have well established negative effects on personal health, so a positive outlook isn't useless... for individuals, in some cases. But believing that you won't get sick if you believe you won't is magical thinking -- and terribly dangerous if you try to apply it as a public health policy.

From a 'government messaging' perspective it's kind of similar to Fukushima and the "just smile" thing.

But furthermore in this country especially there's religious 'healing' and doctrine that pushes that perspective as well.  It's not commonplace, but it generates a lot of money and political power, and is part of the current government's funding and influence base - hell, it's probably a big part of why the current government has such a strong (or devout) political following.

So as a public health policy coming from the government it's doubly suspect.

Giuliani, after coughing repeatedly during a Fox News interview where he was making fun of Biden for promoting masks, claimed to be taking hydroxychloriquine in order to prevent himself from getting COVID-19.

Giuliani claims he has tested negative so far.

USPS worker in NJ arrested for dumping mail, including campaign flyers and ballots. The ballots had not yet been delivered to the voters.

Case sounds rather cut and dried.  Idiot deserves a nice felony record and a pleasant stay at government expense.  And the fine should pretty much wipe him out.  No, I'm not in the mood to be charitable;  it's less about the ballots as it is the whole collection.  I have an IRA that I make one withdrawal from each year (because I have to call them to request it...don't want to do that monthly)...and their only option is to mail a check.  It's...a significant amount.  And, yes, it has been SERIOUSLY delayed...to the point where I called them back, had the first check cancelled, and they sent a new check.  But you can imagine, I was rather less than amused when it hadn't arrived after a week to ten days.  So someone from USPS doing this...I wish they could charge him with more.

“He’s literally saved Christianity,” Eric Trump told “What’s on Your Mind” host Scott Hennen“I mean, there’s a full out war on faith in this country by the other side.”

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/520090-eric-trump-claims-his-father-literally-saved-christianity

Who knew?

After Trump wins his next four years in office, do you think Eric will be in line for the next eight in the dynasty or will Ivanka get her turn first?

I'm trying to think of what war is being waged on Christianity, who the "other side" is, and what Donald Trump has done or possibly could do to "save" it. I'm coming up blank so far.

If Eric means Democrats, an awful lot of them and their voters identify as Christians, so that seems unlikely. Donald Trump hasn't done anything legislatively to bolster Christianity, and certainly not by his Christian conduct. And it's possible the "war" might just be a refusal by many people to kowtow to those who pay lip service to that religion.

I'm hardly an expert, but my understanding is that gay marriage, legal abortion, and preventing creationism from being taught in publicly funded schools is the same as "war".  It takes a special kind of snowflake to be wounded by all that, but America does not seem to lack for snowflakes with fragile fee-fees.

I've talked myself blue in the face trying to explain to people, in real life and online, that pointing out where evolution doesn't show you every answer to every last question at this point in time IS NOT proof that God created the universe.

I've resorted to repeating their arguments back to them then saying "I knew it! Fairies are responsible for everything!"

Sometimes I just get blank looks then I have to explain my fairies comment.

But sometimes I get a flicker of recognition from them that even if they disprove evolution completely (good luck), they haven't taken a single step forward toward proving that God created the universe.
