Haley is far behind Trump in polls of Republican voters, but her poll numbers have been rising pretty steadily while those of the other also-rans have declined or flatlined. Haley is close to Ron DeSantis in aggregate poll numbers, and has beaten him in a number of polls. (See recent polling results.) If Donnie's troubles with the law render him unable to run in the primaries, Nikki is in a strong position to take the Republican nomination.

Nikki Haley would be an obvious improvement over Donald Trump in terms of competence, but with all she's said and done I still don't want her anywhere near the Oval Office.

She's anti human rights and a climate change denier. I'd like her to climb back under her rock and let the adults actually take care of things.

No one's defending her policies.  Trump has every flaw she's got...and every flaw every Republican candidate has, pretty much...and more besides.    Trump's *proven* he has no scruples, that his only interest is his self-interest, and that the rule of law means nothing to him.  ANY of the Republican candidates winning would be bad...but Trump would be many steps worse.

The first step in *maybe* bringing the Republican Party back to something tolerable, is getting Trump permanently removed as a power figure.  It isn't sufficient, but IMO it's necessary.

Admittedly far right Nikki Haley would be a better outcome than the orange guy who openly plans to invoke the Insurrection Act and impose martial law as soon as his hand leaves the Bible.  Some posters here would be in real danger of being forced into a concentration camp, summarily executed, or both.

Oh...I wasn't suggesting anyone is defending her. I'm just venting as it seems like there are no good candidates anymore....sigh.

But Trump is going to do anything Haley might do...indirectly.  We've got the story of pre-vetting every major appointee, and many of them will have one or more specific, negative agendas they'll push.  Trump won't slow down ANY of them.

And Trump is even more likely, IMO, to retaliate against anyone and everyone who criticizes him.  I think another term for him...more than any other Republican...will see a major rise in hate-related violence across the board.

What is interesting and disturbing is

a)  105 Republicans voted Yes, to expel.  That in itself, in this hyper-polarized environment, shows how bad the situation had become.

b)  112 voted no...as did 2 Democrats.  Yeah, OK, the Freedom Caucus folks looked to be in there, but that's a lot more than just them.

And while seeing Boebert and Greene out would be nice...it won't be via this route.

George Santos Expelled From Congress

That's one gone, but there's still a bunch more who were elected twice or more that should never have been elected once.  Here's hoping Boebert and Greene follow soon.

When reached for comment afterwards Santos stated, "This was all part of the plan.  I was just elected President of Jupiter and to the Baseball Hall of Fame so obviously I can't hold all three offices at the same time."
