Political Discussion Thread (With Rules)

Fani Willis filed paperwork for permission to investigate ties between Mike Roman the defendant who accused her of favoritism to Nate Wade and Nate Wade's ex-wife who tried to make her sit for a disposition since they are apparently going out. They filed their motions against her on the same day which is odd since the divorce happened in 2022 after the ex-wife was caught with another man.

If the investigation uncovers a money trail, then it will look like Roman paid the ex-wife to cause trouble before his own court date made it to trial.

Macafee has scheduled a hearing on this.

JFC that video is an hour long, what is the tl;dw?

There isn't. They cover several topics. If you don't have time, maybe you can feed the transcript to ChatGPT or another LLM for a summary. If it doesn't grab your attention, then don't watch it. If you're a busy person, it's honestly probably not worth your time.  I don't really like the Adam guy, but the other guy makes some interesting comments on the history of the modern conservative movement.

"As to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we beg you, brothers and sisters, not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as though from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here. Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the lawless one is revealed, the one destined for destruction. He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, declaring himself to be God."  --  2 Thessalonians 2:1–4

I'm not going to even consider the notion that Trump is the Anti-Christ.  It gives him far too much credit.

More like one of a long string of false prophets, in the vein of Jim Jones and David Koresh. Except his religion is politics.

1977 National Womens Conference Houston

The article makes a good point, I think.  The rise of the right wing in the United States did not begin with Trump, and it won't end with his final defeat, either.  This began a long time ago, with Phyllis Schlafly being one of the strongest advocates of patriarchal ultra-conservatism and her successors--Taylor-Greene, Boebert, Lake, and all the women like them.  The progressives in this nation didn't quite know how to deal with them back then, and from all indications, they still don't.

Looks like the NH polls are saying DeSantis will be left in the dust...because he dropped out of the race today.

And endorsed Trump. Just embarrassingly craven given his campaign history and comments. Probably angling for a cushy cabinet post like boot licker, sign spinner, or human ottoman.

My first thought after reading this was that I needed to play, "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'".

I just wonder what would happen if the Supreme Court takes Trump off the ticket and enough people write him onto the ticket to get him back on.

It should technically be the same as if someone who doesn't meet the age requirements or other restrictions--the candidate is ineligible, and can't be certified per the Constitution.

Additionally, each state determines if write-in votes are accepted, this is Nevada's take:

Quote
  • Can I write my name on the ballot or write someone else's name on the ballot as a candidate?

No. Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 293.270 prohibits write-in candidacy.

Yeah, they start their rundown with the total botch job in re the campaign launch on Twitter...I've seen that one noted in some other places.  Even if it worked, it was boneheaded.

And their last one is, as has been said here...

He capped his national humiliation by endorsing Trump

Florida has term limits for the governor, and DeSantis is in his last term.  It wouldn't surprise me that his political career may basically be over.  Maybe he can win a Senate seat in Florida?  Plausible, I suppose, but he's coming out of this *so* battered, even that seems unlikely.

Granted, he's already done enough damage to his state and the country for a lifetime.....
