From our old pal bunneh:

1. Be kind, even to yourself.
2. Work hard at something that you love; even if you never get "great" at it, your hobbies can still bring you joy in dark times.
3. Make time to visit with your friends.
4. Try to read a good book every once in a while.
5. Go outside and get some fresh air.
6. Pet a friendly animal.
7. Pay attention to the world outside your door, but don't become obsessed with things you can't change.
8. Always do your best, but forgive yourself when you make mistakes.

The exhortation "Kill everything that moves" doesn't serve you well when other stuff is going on, in particular most natural disasters.  You also miss the really good ambush predators that way, and those are among the targets you often really want to get.

Well, during natural disasters, most creatures (at least the ones that deserve to procreate future generations) are thinking "Run Away Fast!".

when in a horror movie, don't go playing with the "weegie" board.

Note: actually whether it has power or not, I would never play with one, just to make sure.

It's essentially a con.

My experience is that it's either subconscious* or deliberate manipulation of the planchette by one or more participants. It's extremely easy to send the planchette exactly where you want it to go, especially if the other participants are putting more force from their fingers on it. This may seem counter-intuitive, but more force downward results in a translation of force away from that person. It's then just a matter of lightly steering the planchette to whatever area of the board you want. And if you are good at cold reading (or know the "mark" well), you can tailor your answers to reinforce certain psychological beliefs that the others hold, which makes it extremely easy to freak out people, and consequently extend the control of the planchette.
