Count Zero
So I am a big fan of the Cyberpunk Genre... How would you recommend handling cybernetics. Are they focuses (probably IIF or OIF)? Just powers? Not quite sure how to do it. Thanks, Jonathan. PS: Do any of you know of any recent cyberpunk style novels you would recommend? Lord Liaden
Depends purely on how you want to define them for your game. If the cybernetics are detachable or disablable in a reasonable period of time without permanently harming the character, then they're Foci. If disabling or removing cybernetics would require major surgery (and BODY Damage to the character), then they're just the special effects of Powers. As Powers they're essentially always available to the character, which can be limiting to some plots where you might want PCs to have to deal with impediments without their special abilities. As Foci cybernetics would probably be easier to repair and replace, not to mention giving the characters a cost break.
Solomon
Unless they're easily detachable, I'd buy cyber enhancements as powers with no focus limitation. However, if your campaign features a lot of common ways to disable cybernetics (EMP pulses, for instance), this might be worth a limitation. Count Zero
Not only cybernetics... they aren't really the tough part. I was also trying to figure out how to do the Virtual Reality internet. I was thinking either multi-form, duplication, or transdimensional travel. Any ideas? Later, Jonathan
AnotherSkip
There are several ways to handle this. X dim movement (other dimension of Cyber space) Clairsentience many other ways. My best recommendation is to handwave it.
Lowly Uhlan
There's a few examples of cyberware in Star Hero and several suggestions on how to use various aspects of the Hero system in a cyberpunk game. Check it out.The Spacers Toolkit has a few peices of cyberware as well. The Restrainable limitation is used in most of the items, charges, self only are used often. Steve Long
Yeah, I made sure to include more Cyberpunk info and equipment in SH than I otherwise would have, since it's going to be a while before we publish a new CH. Between what's in SH, and the gear in next summer's Dark Champions, a Cyberpunk GM should have enough to work with for a while.

Later, Jonathan The HERO conversion notes for Mage: the Ascension at Surbrook's Stuff has write-ups for Virtual Reality-type powers for the Virtual Adepts tradition. There are three different ways for accessing Virtual Reality (the "Digital Web"), ranging from simply projecting one's senses into the internet to projecting one's entire physical existence. Xiawarr
You could also visit the on-line store and purchase the E-book, Kazei 5. I own it and it is very useful for the genre.

Later, Jonathan I think the easiest way to obtain informations on this kind of campaign would be to get a copy of the old (4th) edition Cyber Hero on eBay or from some friend. The layout/graphics of that supplement were amusingly badm but the content was Ok. There were also a couple of character templates plus a chapter on cyberspace, including Black Ice programs etc.
Susano
I disagree. One reason I wrote all the cyberware stuff for Kazei 5 was because I felt Cyber HERO was so lacking in content.
Dog Soldier
I can give a big thumbs up for Kazei-5. It's a great book.

Southern Cross
Well if Kazei Five is as well written as the second edition of Ninja Hero AND there was a paper version available,I would probably buy it.
