The closer you are to the middle of the Pacific, the better view you have. Observing this event requires a telescope. Mercury appears only about 10 arc seconds across as seen from Earth under the circumstances, which is too small for the unaided eye to perceive. So you will need a telescope to see it. Obligatory: Do not look through a telescope, even a small one, at the Sun. Use a projection screen and look at the image projected on that.
