A Thread for Random Musings

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

Yesterday two people were standing outside my apartment smoking. I want fresh air when I open my patio door.

Bunny, I got a job for ya. Need more quickening ?

On the other hand, I think they were someone's guests and won't be back.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

I think I must have saved a ton of money over the years by not caring much about music. I listen, I have a few artists I like, but I own only 2 music CDs, and I almost never listen to them anymore. OTOH, I probably spent more than that amount of saved money on DVDs and books.

I got this via e-mail. I can't verify its accuracy, but here goes.

In the lobby of a Moscow hotel across from a Russian Orthodox monastery: YOU ARE WELCOME TO VISIT THE CEMETERY WHERE FAMOUS RUSSIAN AND SOVIET COMPOSERS,

ARTISTS, AND WRITERS ARE BURIED DAILY EXCEPT THURSDAY.

Hotel, Zurich: BECAUSE OF THE PROPRIETY OF ENTERTAINING GUESTS OF THE OPPOSITE SEX IN THE BEDROOM, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE LOBBY BE USED FOR THIS PURPOSE.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

I've been listening to Pandora at work (on the advice of some folks here), and so far I like it. The only annoying thing is that about every 2 minutes it stops and asks, "Are you still listening?" -- even if I just then clicked on something.

I found out what the birds are. I had always been afraid to, because I liked them so much, and I was afraid I'd find out they were some kind of invasive species or sucked blood or something. But they're now the official county bird, and they're endangered, and still as beautiful as ever.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

I spent a year getting my life in order. Not that it was totally out of whack, but sometimes it takes that long to undo the kinks, y'know?

So anyway, one year after I quit my last job, about 7 months after leaving the band, and about a year since I did any gaming...I'm in a PBEM again and I'm on the boards again, and suddenly my life has taken an icky turn. I haven't even spent that much time on gaming--we're talking a couple hours a week, tops--but things are definitely heading for the crapper. Work stress, personal relationship stress, and school stress, all in one week.

Coincidence?

Gawd I hope so...

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

On another board I frequent, the subject of roleplaying has come up. I mentioned that I run a Fantasy Hero game, lot of fun, blah blah. I mentioned how it's points-based, and clearly superior.

I got a reply:

Speaking of point-buy systems, it has crossed my mind from time to time that it might be interesting to have an RPG where you buy all your abilities with your XP. Instead of "Oh, I have enough to level, now I get this bonus, that bonus, these stats all go up one, and I get to pick something cool off that list, but because of my class I can never have those abilities there", you could end up with something far more flexible, and a little more progressive, instead of a sudden bump in various stats at the time you level, you could buy the various upgrades little by little, and prioritize the things you want.

Somehow, though, I get the feeling such a system would necessarily only work on computer based RPG's; the complexity required to keep things fair would probably require a tome all on its own.

Giggle.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

I need a whole new sound system, like one of those deluxe CD players that you can load 5 CDs in. Big speakers too. At the moment I only have a Bose radio/CD player. The radio part is very staticky as the thing is about 7 years old. My favorite Station comes in staticky.

Any sound system recommendations ?

Lest we forget ...

This week is the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge in WW1 (9 - 12 April 1917), which ended in a notable victory for the Allies, in particular for the Canadians. The Canadian Corps carried the brunt of the fighting, and the battle is one of the keystones in Canada's national identity.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

Had to work last night. Not bartend so much as cover karaoke and do a little extra catch-up work on the books. I also got to throw a guy out for being a putz, but had to listen to a couple of bar-tards drone on endlessly about nothing in particular. It's part of the job, I know, but Mondays are supposed to be my day off.

In any case, I came to a startling conclusion during all this guff:

My girl is hawt
