Re: A Thread for Random Musings

One thing that people don't know about me is that I never, ever lie. Yeah, I post bullspit stories on teh intarwebz. But if I tell you that I'm going to do something, you can be damn sure it's going to get done. If I make a promise, you can be damn sure I'll keep it. Not sure why, but this always seems to surprise people.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

A while back President Obama got into some flack for saying “You don’t blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you’re trying to save for college.”

Yeah, but apparently it was OK last week for Michelle to take the kids to Vegas on the taxpayer dime, and then we've got this:

WASHINGTON (AP) — A senior government official resigned Monday after a report concluded her agency improperly paid for an "over-the-top" training session near Las Vegas that featured a mind reader, bicycle giveaways and lavish after-hour receptions in resort suites for federal workers.

The White House accepted General Services Administration chief Martha Johnson's resignation after she dismissed two deputies and suspended other career employees over an $820,000 conference. The 300-person event at the M Resort Spa and Casino in Henderson, Nev., included a $95-per-person dinner and reception as well as various violations of federal laws and policies.

"As the agency Congress has entrusted with developing the rules followed by other federal agencies for conferences, GSA has a special responsibility to set an example, and that did not occur here," the inspector general concluded in its report.

Public Buildings Service chief Robert Peck and Johnson's top adviser, Stephen Leeds, were forced out. Four GSA employees who organized the five-day conference for the Public Buildings Service's western region have been placed on administrative leave pending further action, a White House official said.

The official spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss details of the embarrassing episode within the federal agency that oversees office space and supplies, transportation and management tasks.

"On his first day in office, President Obama made clear that the people who serve in his administration are keepers of the public trust and that public service is a privilege," White House chief of staff Jack Lew said in a statement. "He was outraged by the excessive spending, questionable dealings with contractors and disregard for taxpayer dollars."

I mean, look Mr. President, I voted for you, and I like you a lot more than any of these Republican clowns, but attitudes like this combined with statements like yours explain why your re-election isn't a slam dunk.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

I try to go to sleep, but sleep, as of late in the night, is not coming. Then at 4 in the morning, I am suddenly and completely claustrophobic. I've heard folks talk about 'the room closing in' but I've rarely if ever experienced it. I just felt utterly boxed in. Now, my dwelling place is no taj mahal, but neither is it a coffin. Yet here I am having some kind of anxiety attack. I toss, I turned, I try to take deep slow breaths. Finally I get up, go out of the room and take a hot shower, but I'm still feeling an extreme urge to find a nice air condition football stadium's dome to sleep under. What the hell? I've got anxiety, I've got anxiety to burn, but this is a new twist for me and I'm not sure what's causing it and why it is coming out that way.

Keep fighting, Robin, keep staying alive. Playing Staying Alive as a prayer. All the best!

Robin Gibb is reportedly battling pneumonia less than a month after achieving remission from colon and liver cancer.

The 62-year-old Bee Gee's star's condition is said to be so serious that brother Barry, 65, has flown in from Tennessee, America, to make an emergency visit.

A source told The Sun newspaper: 'They fear it may be the last time they'll see Robin. His recovery and determination has been remarkable, but there's been a turn for the worse.

'His body's taken a hell of a beating. The doctors fear for him but he's determined to battle on.'
