A Thread for Random Musings

Me and Bro D. went down to the supermarket yesterday, for to find some food. The local ICA Maxi has a pharmacy, and since I needed to stock up on some meds, I might as well pop in. I got my Warfarin and statin, and since this is Sweden, the Laborers' Paradise, they were dirt cheap. But there is one think I'm prescribed that is not covered by the cheapening -- iron supplements. I have a mechanical aortic valve, and it crushes my erythrocytes and without the iron, I'm a bit anemic. The very helpful pharmacist lady wanted to help, since my prescription costs about $50 per box. She spent a good while on the system, trying to find iron that was covered by the cheapening. The closest she found was some Fe3+, that's only covered if the usual Fe2+ doesn't do the job.

All this took about fifteen minutes, all the while Bro D. went about his business in the supermarket. He has an active imagination, and since my visit to the pharmacy dragged out a bit, his imagination kicked into overdrive. Say, if someone you shop with disappears on you, what would you imagine? You missed each other? They went home without you? They've been kidnapped, even?

No such pedestrian fantasies for Bro D.. He started thinking that maybe ... Marcus wasn't real? Maybe I was a figment of his very active imagination? Maybe he's just dreamt me up and suddenly wakened?

I am the most anti-piracy person I know.  But as more and more IP owners stop sharing amongst streaming services and start theie own streaming services at premium peices, all the while making it more and more difficult to watch the tiny handful of things you are actually interested in--

I went from being able to watch anything I wanted on pretty much any not-netflix service to having to subscribe to a couole of hubdred dollars worth of different services (which I am not doing; screw 'em) to watch _exactly_ what I used to watch through one service....

Well, I am still anti-piracy, but damned if I dont understand the motivation better and better every day.

Because he was a total son of a b***h, reveled in it, cultivated it.  Could not keep his hands off women, notably including his subordinates' wives.  He was also an anglophobe, which was much more common among USers in the early part of the 20th Century.  The only direct order FDR ever gave him was to transfer a bunch of Navy B-24 patrol bombers from the Pacific to the Atlantic to help hunt down U-boats in the Battle of the Atlantic; King was content to see the English suffer.

Tuesday is shopping day so while we are getting lunchdown at Devil's Point we notice the beach is closed off and there are notices up. And the reason ? there is a seal on the beach, we saw it go some way to the water and stop short of the water's edge. It is a youngster but obviously does not need its mother anymore. First time I have seen one in the waters of Plymouth.
