mrinku
All that was constant was her boob window costume Except the original build when she was Supergirl
assault
The boob window wasn't there at first, and has come and gone over the years.
mrinku
It's interesting how much attention that feature of her costume gets... but she actually shows significantly less skin than most female supers - her arms, shoulders, neck and back are covered. Basically it's just the thighs and some of her chest. It shows no more actual cleavage than (for example) Wonder Woman's, Poison Ivy's or Black Canary's costumes. Heck, a lot of male supers are much less dressed.
assault
Heck, a lot of male supers are much less dressed. True. Namor is one of the more extreme cases. There is, however, the "male gaze" phenomenon, where Namor tends not to be sexualized in the same way as more dressed female characters. Doing this, of course, would tacitly acknowledge that the character was not just being read by women, but by gay men.
mrinku
Hawkman also shows far more skin than PG But I will concede that sometimes the cut of her leotard's lower end is pushing it. Depends on the artist, of course.
Christopher R Taylor
Yeah they do cut her leg holes pretty high sometimes. I think the reason the oval cutout in her top gets so much attention is that its sort of unique (and pointless) in costuming so its more memorable. Hyper-Man
I blame bad parenting in the multiverse. HM
Nothere
True the boob window is rather unique. The invisible woman had one during one of her evil phases, but it didn't last long. They had a funny scene where a group of women were complaining to her about how her new costume was too risqué, so she turned all their clothes invisible. Course her most risqué outfit was the Malice costume.
Lucius
How super is Superman? Not super enough to keep a thread devoted to how super he is from derailing when Power Girl shows up. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary asks, how Powerful is Powergirl?
Christopher R Taylor
Wait until Supergirl gets here! And yeah, Malice was a bit over the top but it made sense, since she was just being mind controlled by a scuzbag. That was his idea of a hot chick's costume
massey
And yeah, Malice was a bit over the top but it made sense, since she was just being mind controlled by a scuzbag. John Byrne?
Hyper-Man
I believe so. HM
Christopher R Taylor
Well yes, John Byrne created her but she was being mind controlled by the Psycho-Man, that was his vision of the perfect hotty.
Hyper-Man
Well yes, John Byrne created her but she was being mind controlled by the Psycho-Man, that was his vision of the perfect hotty. I thought it was Big Barda doing porn with Superman? HM
Grailknight
Also done by John Byrne.
Christopher R Taylor
For an even more difficult build, how do you make Letterman? Faster than a rolling o! Stronger than a silent E! Able to leap capitol T in a single bound!
Nothere
Holy Higher education. I remember this.
mrinku
Byrne also did that FF story where She-Hulk got photographed sunbathing topless on the roof of the Baxter Building by sleazy skin mag types. Hmm... bit of a theme forming...
Nothere
She wasn't able to legaly stop the publication. However the magazine owner failed to tell the editors that the woman was supposed to be green. So they colorized it, and no one believed it was her. mrinku
That was a great story. Which also had a (then) rare cameo by Jen as... Jen! (i.e. as non-Hulk Jennifer Waters)
Matt the Bruins
I quite liked that story. Susan Richards as Malice in LotR-themed fetish gear, not so much, and I thought the whole Big Barda/Superman porn video storyline was an abominably bad idea. Christopher R Taylor
I did like the She-Hulk storyline, it made sense for the setting, was fun and funny, and had a nice twist. Its kind of clear that Byrne has a thing for She Hulk though.
Hyper-Man
Byrne's run on that book was probably my favorite one that featured 'breaking of the 4th wall' of that era (I loved Ambush Bug as well but it did not feature it as much). HM
mrinku
Byrne is pretty much responsible for She-Hulk's ongoing popularity. Before he popped her into the FF she was basically just someone who ran with the Avengers because her own book had been cancelled. Then he did Sensational She-Hulk, which was the 4th wall bending comic Hyper-Man is thinking of (not much 4th wall breaking in FF). Also an Ambush Bug fan here, HM!
