archer
Back in the 1970's, WWII simulation board games were all over the place at hobby stores. I know there were several abortive attempts to make WWII games into RPG's but I don't remember if any of them actually made it to the market. Ninja-Bear
Archer there is the Weird War series of games from Savage Worlds. They are WWI, WWII and Vietnam Nam. Called weird because like Deadlands, there is magic and monsters in them. archer

As mentioned earlier in the thread, Paranoia is making a comeback, but TOON? Ghostbusters? Teenagers From Outer Space? Nobody seems interested in thoroughly unserious roleplaying. Which reminds me of the (funny) animals genre: Bunnies and Burrows, Albedo, etc. And then there was the religiously-themed stuff like Nephilim and In Nomine. Doc Shadow
There was also the excellent GURPS World War II series for GURPS 3rd Ed. I have all of them, well, all of them that are available in hard copy at least. Don't really care for the GURPS system but SJG makes some of the best sourcebooks out there. Well worth getting a hold of. tkdguy

In Weird War the world is semi-historical and the magic/monster part are "military" programs each side uses for advantage whose existance is keep as secret as possible. Can't panic the civilians can we. Great settings though. Don't forget Weird Wars Rome.
Badger
Cant remember if I mentioned it, but comparing pre-1980 or so to post-1980 or so. The Western has become semi-lost. (of course still pops up, but on a scale of 1-100, it went from 98 to about 15)

Well I think Mike Pondsmith put out a second edition a few years ago, but I haven't seen anything recently.
starblaze
Basic Action Games came out with Honor & Intrigue, a rather good swashbuckling game. It is based on the Barbarians of Lemuria game.
Scott Ruggels
Some may be forgetting that video games have come a long way since the 1980’s. Genre taste have shifted. Post apocalyptic games have moved off the table, and into the console, or PC. WW2 is very popular, from Warthunder to IL-2 Battle of Ali an, to Postscriptum. Modern combined arms and close teamwork exist in the Arma series. I won’t say a lot about Star Citizen, but it is a Science Fiction environment. Fantasy endures on the table top, because, unlike other genres(exceptSF), fantasy allows for more creativity, and interpretation.
