Babylon City Fire Department Training Site

The BCFD has a location in the Tenderloin area reserved for its use but which it will occasionally rent out to licensed heroes.  It is nicknamed 'Old Chicago' since the training site and school are on Chicago Street.  The site has 3 buildings (1 twice the size of the other two) made of reinforced concrete (8rPD/10rED/8Bdy) walls compared to many city's single building training center.  The multiple building help to train containment of multiple burning buildings though usually only a single building is used for basic training.  When the site is not in use, heroes can rent the site out to train for a modest fee.  Damage to the site is the responsibility of the user but they city has an insurance plan to cover damage costs and will go after the perpetrators for several times the cost of repair.

The site is designed to have wooden floors installed which can buckle under fire and drop the person standing on it 3".  While not enough of a drop to cause serious harm, it has taught many heroes and firemen situational awareness.  The site is also used sometimes by police training departments to simulate hostile fire hostage situations using paintball guns.

Khan Automotive Repair Specialists (KARS)

Amir Khan is an immigrant from Kuwait who in the 1990s opened Khan Automotive Repair Specialists after 2 years at DeVry College.  After immigrating to the U.S., Amir Khan found his passion in fixing up and modifying cars.  His garage did moderately well at first based on word of mouth only, though the first year was a little nerve wracking financial wise.  In his second year, a billionaire philantropist from New Jersey saw one of his modified pickups designed to outperform anything on the road while carrying a full load of lumber.  Since then KARS has garages in four major cities and also automotive dealerships in those same locations.  Amir Khan is living the dream, his own millionaire status secured, he still tinkers and works as a mechanic in his first garage in Babylon City.

Both sides of the superhero populous come to Khan's.  Amir plays dumb but knows that several of his cars has been used by both famous superheroes and supervillains.  When asked, he freely admits only exactly what he knows. He said it never pays to make assumptions.  Most supervillains and superheroes have an unspoken agreement with this and threatening Amir has consequences from both sides.  It is said that one supervillain refused to pay for his services and beat up one of his mechanics.  This led to a delay in other services while Amir paid for the medical costs of his mechanic and visited the poor guy in the hospital.  A superhero caught wind of this, found the villain and thoroughly trounced him.  After another incident or two, the villains stopped threatening Amir.

The weirdest vehicle Amir has worked on is retrofitting a small spaceship to accommodate a full size adult.  It took a while and it introduced him to all sorts of new vehicle concepts.  As a thank you to the patron, Amir installed robotic arms on the spaceship.  When asked about it, Amir shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't understand why the person needed the vehicle working on a farm in Kansas but figured he was a vehicle aficionado like himself.

St. Paddy's Day Parade

The local Irish community originally settled in the Tenderloin and started a tradition of the St. Paddy's Day parade.  Restaurants host several celebration (mostly beer oriented) before during and after the parade and a good time is had by most.  Unfortunately, there is a dark lining to the parade.  The parade is made up of mostly Catholics and Christians.  Depending on the current religious climate of the Vatican, the parade goers may include the LGBT group.  Under Pope Benedict XVI, the parade took a more exclusionary route which lead off into the city's Gay Pride parade, a more minor affair to become larger than the St. Paddy's Day Parade.  This led to violent clashes between right wing conservative Catholics and left wing LGBT groups.  The current pope, Pope Francis, wrote letters to both parties which seems to have settled down both parties to an extent.

St. James Park

This park is covered in high trees several hundred years old.  While the grounds are much newer, the city decided long ago to keep the tree here until the tree's eventually die.  The last tree to die was in '76 when Commander Communist and The Minuteman fought and the tree was one of the casualties.  The city soon found, that the hardwood of the tree was worth a lot of money not because of the rarity and strength of the wood, but furniture and items made from the wood elicited a city pride.  Only 9 original trees remain.  Newer trees have been planted in dedication ceremonies when one dies bringing about much local news and city income.

St. James Park is also noted for another less grand tradition.  Because of the trees and buildings around the park, the park tends to be sheltered from more extreme forms weather.  As a result, the homeless will congregate around the park at night.  This problem has been attempted to be rectified by the city council a number of times but to no lasting success.  During the day, the park's homeless population vacates the area and even cleans up most of their refuse leaving little trace of their nightly visits.
