The Supermetroplex

The Supermetroplex was the place to see films in the 80s.  An astounding, 16 screens with Dolby Surround Sound stereo, three snack bar, the latest arcade, and several B-list actors showings made it the place to be on opening night.  Since the 2000 though, the theater has hit harder times.  As home theater systems improved, the movie theater saw drops in attendance.  It hired some of the supporting characters of various movies to prop up some of the big films openings.  Unfortunately, those films were Tomorrowland, The Lone Ranger, Speed Racer, John Carter, and Battleship.  Recently, a secret angel investor has invested in the theater, upgrading the screens and sounds systems and upscaling the refreshment stands.  The theater still has stiff competition though as 5 other movie theaters still exist around the city with lower debt and costs.

Al Washburn's Used Cars

Al sells used cars.  If it moves, he can sell it.  It is said that he sold an old WWI tank to a couple as a luxury vehicle who then only drove it on Sundays to church.  Al has capitalized on the rumor and is always seen selling wacky vehicles in his TV ads.  Al owns three lots in Babylon City and more in state.  His empire is estimated at a worth over $1.5 billion.  For all this, Al dislikes selling cars.  When asked, why he sold cars if he didn't like it he's noted as saying "If God gives you the ability to be successful selling cars, you sell cars."  Unsubstantiated rumors indicated that he originally wanted to be a policeman but couldn't meet the physical demands.

POPS

Paranormal OutPlacement Services.  POPS is an acronym for a specialized service to supers both villainous and super heroic.  The service tries to place paranormals in normal societal jobs.  Both villainy and superheroics take a toll on the body, even super powered ones.  POPS take those with specialized talents and attempts to find jobs for them.  For most supervillains, the service comes usually after they are pardoned, paroled, or released.  For superheroes, the service usually comes after a traumatic event or the onset of middle age.   Jobs have included construction and dock work for super strong and durable characters, to high tech work for super geniuses.  No secret IDs are known by POPS and POPS maintains no database.  All services are confidential.  The service has been so popular that some paranormals will skip the fame of superheroic combat and seek private sector jobs with POPS.

St. Francis University of Babylon City

St. Francis University is a small privately run university in Babylon City.  Named after St. Francis of Assisi, the university originally produced successful graduates in the health care related fields of biology, biochemistry and the like.  Today, the university is suffering an internal personality civil war.  The economic department has produced its own successful graduates and as is common in the situation with wealthy, successful graduates, they become part of the board of directors for the university.  The majority of the economic graduates on the board desire the University to become more cost effective and profitable while the biosciences group wants to expand medical research and free/low cost medical help.  In the middle is the Franciscan priest who has so far been able to strike a middle ground between the two forces on the board of directors.  He sees the merits to both sides and frequently mediates a compromise between the two forces.  Unfortunately, the priest is getting a bit old and will soon retire.  The Catholic church has yet to name a successor and no junior priest at St. Francis seems poised to take on the role.
