Summon, Automatons, and Followers

MikeMitchell

Question

I see in the power description for Summon an example of a necromancer creating zombies, which of course are automatons. However, the section on automatons says you have to buy them as Followers. So do you need to purchase both Followers and Summon to create automatons?

Context: I’m trying to create a character who can animate non organic rubble (for example) as automatons. So basically, we want him to make little rubble zombies out of whatever happens to be lying around.

Any help with figuring out how to build this appreciated.

Automatons (such as zombies) are typically bought as Followers when a character wants to have them around more or less permanently. But for situations where the Automaton is only intended as a short-term creation or the like, Summon is the Power commonly used to "bring them to life." As you noted, 6E1 specifically mentions this, and there are plenty of examples of undead creation spells and the like in published material. The ability you describe seems like a textbook example of this use of Summon. ;)
