Old Man
Cruise missiles hitting Syria as I type this. Focus appears to be on Damascus but other locations have been hit as well including military bases and research facilities. B-1 bombers are involved; not sure if they launched the missiles or are actually over Syria. French forces may also be involved. RAF Tornados also said to be involved. Old Man
Strikes appear to be over. Syrian air defenses appear to have shot down some cruise missiles but otherwise the strikes were overwhelming. Damascus got hammered; reports of widespread power outages there. Pentagon claims Russia was not warned and Russians are making the corresponding indignant noises. Reports of Hezbollah mobilizing in anticipation of escalation with Israel. Pariah
Sounds to me like a couple of out-of-control cases of testosterone poisoning in DC and Moscow. This has the potential to get really bad, I fear. I've got a bad feeling about this.
Lord Liaden
Honestly, I'm not sure some action like this was avoidable. International agreements and consensus place the use of chemical weapons in the "unacceptable" category. Evidence of their recent use by the Assad regime appears solid. A measured punitive response is almost required by diplomatic precedent. What we have yet to see is if the reactions by the various parties involved stay at the usual blustering stage, or escalate. The real wild card is Russia. Putin and his puppets have been ramping up their rhetoric and accusations, possibly laying the propaganda ground work for even more aggressive actions. At the same time, tolerance with his regime among Western nations looks to be wearing thin. Starlord
Badger
Never been sure what to do with Syria. During the Civil War, I've always feared that Assad might actually be the lesser evil. I sure as hell don't trust any of the opposing forces to not do something equal or worse than Assad has done. Whatever happens, I'm sure we'll be the losers by next generation. Watchman Mk. IV
Win-win. Schlump gets to feel like a big man, and he gets a two-week bump in his approval numbers. Until the next tariff.

Pattern Ghost
At least they didn't do it on a Friday the 13th or something. Man, that would have been some bad luck.

There has been no international crisis that US military intervention cannot make significantly worse.

Lord Liaden
I'm not sure going insane equates with seeing the error of her ways. We have yet to see if Bolton will follow either of those paths.
