We lost a good one.....

Recommended Posts

It is with great sadness that I announce my good friend, David Stevens, aka Hyper-man passed away last week. He fought a courageous battle against brain cancer.   He was a Huge fan of the Hero System, and has a very impressive collection of products he was very proud of.

One of the last things we talked about was his collection, and his wishes for it.   It is literally only a couple of books short of having Every product printed for the Hero system, including Kickstarters.  He really wanted to try to keep the collection together.

I'm interested in everyone's opinions,

Do you think anyone would be interested in purchasing such a large collection?

I could bring it to Gencon and try there, but am not willing to let it go for pennies on the dollar.

Would EBAY be the best way to try to sell?

Any other unique ideas on what to do with the collection?  (Doesn't have to be sold)

Thanks !

Sorry to hear of the loss, both your personal loss and the community loss.

If you want best money eBay.

But if you want it to stay together a fellow herophile is the way to go.

Libraries keep colections,  but often books get damaged or stolen.

I'm shocked to hear this. I always enjoyed his contributions to the forums.

I would echo others that offering it as an auction item on Ebay is probably the best way to keep it together, but I'm not sure if you will be able to find a buyer for the entire collection unless it is discounted.

Donating the money to a charity in his name is a good idea.

:weep:

I light the candle and turn the wheel for a fallen Hero.

Perhaps you can find a library or other institution willing to house the collection and keep it together in his memory.

Oh.

None of the words that would follow that are suitable for the forum.

One of my favourite posters.

I think I might have a beer later. I don't know if Hyper-Man drank, or really anything about him in person, but a small personal wake seems reasonable.

I might also grab one of his character designs, rename him in his honour and use him as one of my world's Big Heroes.

I never met you in real life, David / Hyper-Man, but you always impressed me with your helpful comments, your humor, and being an all-around class act.  Rest in peace, sir.  We will miss you, but will roll the dice in your memory.

My condolences to you, Blue Diamond, as well as The Masked Man (who had started a thread when HM first went into the hospital), and to David's mother and other family and friends.

The Empty Chair
Eulogy for a Gamer

There is an empty chair,
at the table this day.
A hallowed place where,
a friend once played.
The roll of his dice,
my ears long to hear.
Or perhaps it would suffice,
if he should suddenly appear.
With character sheet in hand,
and a bag of Cheeze-doodles to share.
All his friends would stand,
as he sat in the empty chair.
I hear his voice a-callin’,
and it ties my heart in a knot.
For he cries, “Though a comrade has fallen,
You must play for those who cannot.”
We conquered worlds on the run,
he and I in the name of fun.
And as others may come and go,
I make both both friend and foe.
But what I long for most,
is our past now long a ghost.
