Calling your Power Armor

I apologize if this has been asked before, I searched and came up empty.

I'm just starting to run my first Champions game and a member of my group wants to be able to teleport his power armor to himself. I'm having trouble figuring out how exactly that should work. I'm tentatively thinking of a Summon based on the active points of all his OIF powers?

Ideally he wants it to be an instantaneous thing, kind of like a Power Rangers transformation sequence, that brings his armor to his location and lets him don it. Perhaps the suit itself should be bought as a vehicle with some kind of teleportation ability? Or should he just buy all his OIF powers with 'only in secret ID' and then go for the instant change? I thought about modeling it by making some sort of adjustment to the Limitation for his focus, but I wouldn't know where to start or how much of an adjustment would be appropriate.

I don't intend this to be a huge advantage for him (I doubt I'll steal his armor very often) so I don't want to charge him a lot of points for something that won't come up frequently. Any guidance would be appreciated, like I said I'm totally new to this.

It is only a special effect of his powers. Basically you don't need a separate power. You only need to remove the OIF, to no focus at all. (Prehaps also give him an "Instant Change" Transform to represent phasing his armor upon his body. He doesn't truly change his clothing to his armor, he teleports it upon his body.)

If your kind, you can charge him for an IIF.

the teleportation to him can just be an effect of instant change. However, it can't work if someone takes the armor away from him. if hes in a situation where hes been specifically denied his focus, instant change cant fix that. Basically, the instant change is just a convenience for donning a costume, and not a way to easily overcome the effects of a limitation.

THE focus is obvious. so if hes captured, even in secret id, and the enemy strips him of all equipment, then presumably they've taken away whatever triggers the teleportation, because its something obviously high tech or suspicious.

If he claims his armor cant be stopped from teleportation easily, and he can always take his armor back instantly, , then its more of a hero identity other than a focus

Ah. Ok. I was pondering if this guy was trying to pick up a limitation, then trying to create a power which makes the power limitation moot (Which is forbidden by the way. If the limitation is not a limitation, then it is worth no points.)

Only In Alternate Identity is another option. Something which doesn't need the Transform. Reminds me of the character I created for Golden Age Champions thinking thread, The Blue Knight. He wears a 'magical' suit of midevil armor which can shrink into 'toy soldier' size to fit in his pocket when not in use. I bought it as Only In Alternate Identity, cause once on his body, it can't be removed easily.  But a villain could search him and the armor could be taken away that way. Also, we have the time thing.

If it can be prevented or taken away, like a Power-Up watch, use OIF or similar.

If is something you aren't planning on taking away, but might not be usable given extraneous situations, use Only in Secret ID.

It the transport of the armor takes a moment and could be a problem, put in Extra Time to get there.
If none of these, it's a Special Effect.

You realize, time thing is also built into Only In Alternate Identity, right?

I built an armored guy like this, it was based on instant change and OIF.  You could use "only in alternate ID" as well, since its a lot harder to keep the armor away from him.

I just built a villain named Jotun and he can grow because of his magic belt. I bought it as accidental change 8-, Complete (?) to represent that if his belt is ever found and removed (out of combat time) then he reverts back to being a average archeologist stat wise. Since I didn’t see him losing it that much, I didn’t give him an IIF lim.

This is how I did it for my character of Centurion, although he didn't get this power until well into his career. At the beginning he had to put on his armor manually, as this was an off shoot of the base's teleport system.

34        Long-range Armor Transfer System:  Major Transform 5d6 (standard effect: 15 points) (Civilian ID to Hero ID), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (112 Active Points); Limited Target ([Very Limited]; Self only; -1), IAF (Focus - Command Interface; -1/2), Limited Power Must be within 100 kilometers of Armory (-1/4), Extra Time (Extra Segment, Only to Activate, -1/4), Limited Power Blocked by Force Fields (-1/4)

I don't think you need Instant Change.  The F/X is it teleportation  Remember Foci and OIHID is frowned upon...however Physical Manifestation can make it damageable if desired, also could represent it being taken away, or restrainable other than grab,,.

That's certainly true, but it saves some time.

And a character can have some OIHID and some devices that are OIF at the same time.

This is why I don't like Instant Change built as transformation, because if you instant change into power armor then you have to buy the transform big enough to give you the powers... its just an ugly build.

And the reason you don't use teleportation is that it has a range.  So your armor couldn't come to you instantly if you were too far away which is a bit hard to justify with most concepts of the build, and it would cost quite a bit to port something a long distance away to you.  You couldn't really use megascale or its not instant.

Then look at Only In Alternative Idenity.
