Worst action movie clichés

You can do more with less.  The original Taking of Pelham One Two Three is one of my favorite movies and it doesn't have a single explosion or major special effect.

It's a fantastic movie that happens to hold a 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

As Michael Nelson wrote about Broken Arrow Howie Long looked like like John Houseman compared to John Travolta.

Howie was a classmate of mine actually. And, yes, I always considered him a far superior actor than John Ravolta.

Speaking of action movie cliches and Star Wars: JJ Abrams. The man thinks the frenetic-kinetic breakneck pace of superhero films will translate to everything he touches. His technique is to hit the beats, tropes, and quips at 100+ mph without paying attention to anything else. Some stories need time for the story to breath, the characters to resonate, and the mythology to build. A movie can contain a lot of action and not be a cheeky formulaic action blockbuster. Abrams hand in Star Wars and Star Trek has been detrimental to both because there is something more to both of them. The worst action movie cliche I can think of these days is "Directed by JJ Abrams."

But, if you don't go in at 100 MPH, the audience may realize you forgot to write a plot.

Which isn't saying much.

Very true. Although I'll be the first admit I haven't been the target audience in a long time.

My tastes have also changed. While I still enjoy an action flick once in a while, I'm more inclined to watch The King's Speech than the latest Avengers movie.

For hackneyed action movie scenes you hate.  Feel free to delve into other genres if you wish.  :)

I nominate - Desperate protagonist without gun knocks out mook with gun then...DOESN'T PICK UP GUN!

I have to agree with this one. You would think that the hero would at least dispose of the guns ammunition, just in case the mook regains conciousness and the hero needs to come back past him .

Yeah, my tastes have changed from Action to Adventure  (some overlap, but Adventure in my mind doesn't have constant action like Action movies do)

I think Action involves combat with other humans, and Adventure is combating nature or overcoming some obstacle.
