In a fast-draw contest between a wizard's wand and a gunslinger's pistol, which weapon tends to have the speed advantage?

Does the wizard have to utter a multisyllable nonsense phrase to fire the wand?  "Avada Kedavra" is such a mouthful I've often wondered why Harry didn't just pack a nine.

I would say neither has an innate advantage, too many variables. What kind of holsters do each have? Are they both from cultures where fast drawing is practiced? Etc. Certainly in game terms neither has an intrinsic advantage, it would depend on the weapon stats and the character skills.

Yeah, depends on the exact mechanics of the wand.

 

Both are 1/2 phase action unless otherwise limited.  Gunslinger *is* more likely to have the quickdraw skill, though

 

Also:  Thread title is wheellock.  Firing one of those might not have been as simple as a 1/2 phase action.  Reloading and readying one certainly isn't

These are questions about the world as well. Gunslingers might be a new thing and wizards could of been having duels for centuries. So the Wizard is far more likely to have quickdraw in that case.

 

The second also depends. Do magic and technology co-exist? With magic, reloading could be quite simple, since the sprites do it all for you as soon as the firing finishes.

I thought holsters were fluff/bits of outfit description unless they happen to be OAFs that grant a bonus to Quick-Draw.

What if they snap close to secure the wand / gun? What is they are a back strap or under jacket rig? Too many unknowns. But if you have a specific example in mind we can probably help narrow it down.

It  would have been a 2-4 lb. Wheel lock with a  6-8 inch barrel,
