Skill: Carousing

A character who is good at carousing. This might allow him to raise the spirits of a group, convince them to gamble, drink, etc., soften up a target for extracting information or doing a business deal.

I'm thinking of calling it Carousing but it's maybe like Persuasion, Seduction or Conversation?

 

Or maybe it's just +5PRE when there's booze/music involved.

IMHO carousing can liven a party up and can loosening up the party goers. It could this be a supplementary roll to you or other party goers with their social rolls

I would expect the Carousing skill to act as a supplementary skill to CON when rolling to hold one's liquor. Being a teetotaler myself, I don't have any direct experience, but I understand that there's a bit of an art to maintaining one's preferred level of intoxication. The Carousing skill should also help avoid hangovers, maybe?

What I can never quite decide for myself is is Carousing a skill that makes it possible to keep on drinking or is it a social skill that lets the character be the life of the party.

It's a Presence based skill. Comeliness as well, but mainly Presence.

No you can fall but it’s how you recover from it. Do you make it look funny or like a stumbling fool?

I read a book on Frank Sinatra once, probably the master carouser of the last 100 years. 

In it, when asked how he was able to handle drinking so much and still being social and the life of the party, he said his trick was to first when entering a party make a big deal about ordering a bunch of champagne for everyone and make a big deal of it toasting everyone, pouring for everyone, etc... then later secretly switching to only ginger ale in his champagne glass for most of the rest of the night. Everyone thought he was drinking just as much as they were or even more, but while everyone else was getting drunk, but he would stay sober. 

 

So maybe a Carousing skill would also include a bit of Acting in it. In fact Carousing might apply to lots of skills at different times, from Conversation, to Oratory to Acting.  Some maybe it would be best simulated by a Skill Levels in All Interaction Skills (4pts per +1) with the Limitation "Only when Carousing"
