Babylon 5 Spoilers

Babylon 5 is a five mile long space station in the Epsilon Eridani star system built by the Earth Alliance and complied in 2257.  Babylon 1, 2, and 3 were destroyed by sabotage.  Babylon 4 disappeared right after being complied in 2254 and was actually stolen by John Sheridan, Delenn, Susan Ivanova, Marcus Cole, Lennier, and Jeffrey Sinclair.   Jeffrey Sinclair took it a thousand years into the past to use as a base for the Mimbari in the last war against the Shadows.  In order for the Minbari to accept it Sinclair transformed himself into a Minbari using the Triluminary to become the legendary leader Valen.

Jeffrey Sinclair was told that he had 'a hole in his mind' This was because he took part in the Battle of the Line', a last ditch defence by Earth ships against the Minbari and was captured by them. The Minbari did a test on him and found he was related to them in some way. For this reason they ended the war. Sinclair was returned with no memory of what happened to him on the Minbari ship.

Human with Telepathic abilities came into existence because as soon as the Earth Alliance got Jump Gate technology from the Centauri the Vorlons genetically altered some humans so they could be used as weapons against the Shadows.  The Shadows responded by corrupting Earth Government Officials and taking over Psi Corps.

Ahh, I see.  They're bringing it back.  Cool.  Seasons 2-4 are awesome, altho you can tell the storyline's getting rushed in season 4.

They thought by might be cancelled and wanted to wrap things up.

Londo would become Emperor after the Drahk use the Regent to start a war with the Inter-Stellar Alliance.  He would have one of their Keepers placed on him making him their puppet.  Vir would become Emperor after G-Kar and Londo kill each other so Sheridan and Delenn can escape the Palace.

Vorlons were tampering with humans long before they got jump gate tech from the Centauri. Just remember who their inquisitor was.

True but not complete.  They were renewed, albeit somewhat late.  However, Claudia Christian wanted some time off during season 5 to make a movie, as that would actually pay her *much* more.  The producers said no.  (That's what I read at the time;  apparently there are conflicting takes as to why.)  So, she didn't sign on for the 5th year.  Yeah, closing out the major storyline was a consequence of the production company jerking everyone around, but certain major storylines got totally re-written because of that aspect.

This is from tvtropes.org:

Perhaps the most infamous example: the original plan for Season 4 was to end with "Intersections in Real Time"; the Earth Civil War arc would be concluded in the first six or seven episodes of Season 5 (much like the Shadow War arc conclusion in the first six episodes of Season 4). But then the network PTEN finally disintegrated, and it seemed like Babylon 5 was going to be cancelled at the end of Season 4 — so JMS, determined to give his show a proper ending, condensed his original plan for Season 4 to make it four episodes shorter and then crammed the resolution of the Earth Civil War into three massively-compressed Wham Episodes followed by the Distant Finale"Sleeping in Light". Then, at the last minute, Babylon 5 was picked up for its last season by the cable network TNT! There was only one problem: Season 4 had already been shot, so there was now a massive gap at the beginning of Season 5 where the planned story had already been told. JMS had no choice but to fill the gap by taking the telepath colony arc — intended to last only three episodes — and stretching it out to eleven episodes over Season 5's entire first half. There's a reason why Season 5 is so unpopular with fans.

That's largely how I remember it too.  And yes, season 5 is a disaster until the whole Centauri/Drakh storyline actually gets played out in the second half.  I actually felt really bad for Londo by the end of things.  OTOH, Tracy Scoggins was perhaps the worst choice for a MAJOR commanding officer I've ever seen.  Babylon 5 is a major, MAJOR posting;  it's at least ambassador-equivalent, as well as supreme commander for a theater (a la head of the Pacific fleet today).  We're talking 3 or 4 star general officer.  Scoggins came across as a bimbo.

Most of the high ranking officers had probably been arrested as being involved in the war crimes of the Clark administration. What few were left had to fill a lot of slots. Lochley was probably the best they had available on short notice.

The actress was the problem.  Scoggins just lacks the qualities to make a convincing leader, much less military leader.

The Comet TV network is adding Babylon 5 to its lineup of SF B-movies, Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, Stargate SG-1, and Johnny Sokko.  In the words of the prophet--check your local listings for time and channel.

I disagree about Tracy Scoggins.  I found myself wishing that she and Claudia Christian could both be on the show.  Then Ivanova and Lochley could have gotten together with Delenn and said to Sheridan, "You guys are handling this telepath thing all wrong.  You should let us take over the matter."

Sheridan specifically requested Lochley be placed in command when Ivanova left. She was qualified. He knew her. And she wasn't from his side in the war.

I liked the episode when the evangelical Christian preacher came to the station and held revival services. The couple of Minbari who showed up to the services tried to clap and be appropriately enthusiastic during the praise music but couldn't quite get the musical timing right. Just the look on their faces of how lost they were in trying to figure out what was going on was a priceless moment in TV history.

As to some of the above: The first half of the 5th season really was unfortunate, because it had Sheridan carrying the idiot ball a disproportionate amount of the time. After how brilliantly he managed both the Shadow War and the liberation of Earth, it's like he sold back 10 points of INT on the way home to the station. It seemed like in the first half of the fifth season, every decision he made was the worst possible decision.

It was hard to watch.
