It kind of worked that way in Norse mythology, though. Male Jotuns (giants), for example, were usually huge and often monstrous in appearance, but their women were frequently the same size as the gods and very attractive, and some married the gods (or at least had sex with them).

 

That, and the picture above, are probably indicative of the target audience for those tales. :rolleyes:
