Hermit Posted March 1, 2019 Report Share Posted March 1, 2019 Welcome to the Rip the Umbrella superdraft, so named as we will be ripping off the Umbrella Academy (Both a comic book and Netflix show) with serial numbers filed and niches filled by personal choices. For those of you not acquainted... the barebones of the premise we are stealing from is this: Years ago, on the same day, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven of these infants are adopted by a well to do individuals, who trains them as they grow to save the world. You will decide who their benefactor/mentor/parent was, and fill the roster of the adopted siblings. Since this is a 'unified origin' situation for the most part, no matter what their canon , in this story line each character has their powers develop at a young age (With the possible exception of one but more on that later). So if you pick a character who got powers from gamma rays or a radioactive spider..nah, at least some of their powers were innate at the start. This isn't to say they can't have reasons for more tools or goodies later. We want this to be fun and you never know when your dad stand in might give you the arms of a Martian Gorilla to save your life..or something. So the picks are The Starting Point: Notice I don't say location, though that is part of it. Starting point requires you to pick the date your characters were born, the date they reunite for this'adventure' so you know what age they'll all be (assuming typical aging). This means one person might have their draft occur with all teenage punks, while another has 30 year old adults or whatever. The Parent: (1..ish) This is the lady or gent who adopted the 7 kids in the first place. The only requirement really is he or she (or it?) be well to do and have the resources to raise all these kids and train them in powers while not necessarily having The parent may or may not have been a nice person, allowing you to plant seeds of dysfunction if that's how you want to go. The Parent may or may not be dead if you like when you have the Reunion. I thought at first of making it mandatory but why limit you? . This is your first pick and all times and the location at once. Adopted Siblings (7 picks) - Notice I don't say Heroes... anti-heroes or even borderline villains are allowed. They were raised together, trained together, but that doesn't mean the training took or that all went well when it came to morality. They don't have to like each other, and if you so choose, they're not united at all. But they'll have some common enemies. You can draft from any officially published movie, comic book, tv show or novel but 6 of them have to have some superhuman ability. Remember, the unified origin means at least some of those powers must be innate. Hunters (2 Picks): These two have been sent to make sure the family is not a threat to the grand plan. They may have powers, may have bad ass normals with gear. Whatever. The Organization (1 Pick): Be it a cult, an evil company, aliens or what not, these are the guys who stand to gain from the Apocalypse occurring. Maybe they're the cause. Maybe just the beneficiaries. They can provide gear, goods, and less skilled goons to aid the hunters. Protagonist Support: (1 Pick) Be it a nanny, a butler, a contact, love interest , etc, Protagonist support may or may not be tied to the family but they're tired to at least one of the protagonists. I'm undecided on a power level limit, but think 'less powerful' than any one of the siblings. Apocalypse itself (1) This is just what form the apocalypse will take. Plague, A war set off, opening a hellmouth? Now you may ask "isn't this just flavor?" Well, nothing wrong with that, but it also assumes the materials needed to make it happen. If you choose nuclear war, then you probably have at least one Nuke to set off and so on. Options (2) - Pretty much anything you want to be. Extra hero, villain, someone in between. At the end of your picks, I need a name or title... and at least one musical song/piece that capture the feel you want. . Nothing keeping you from assigning a whole musical sound track if you want We begin on March 4. Five PM US EST. So the Vogon Constructor Fleet must, as a prerequisite for destroying Earth to make way for the bypass, ascertain that there is no life here, and the easiest way to do that is to kill it all. Rodents being the most numerous type of the dominant biological class on Earth, turning all the rodents into brain-controlled zombie killing machines seems like a way of making that happen while allowing the Vogons to have plausible deniability with respect to the extirpation. It's okay if they overlap a little or are at the same location. I don't want to discourage folks, and since everyone will have their own apocalypse, it only makes sense these might be on separate worlds or at least timelines anyway.
