San Angelo: City of Heroes, 20 years later

1) Gaviota Island Federal Penitentiary: It was almost full when the original book came out. Were more such facilities built? Who works there now? Did they ever have any breakouts?

2) On a similar line, how do underage supercriminals get dealt with? Would a teenaged supervillain get sentenced to Gaviota or is there now a youth facility of some sort for them?

3) Dragon's Gate had quite a lot of details on San Angelo's Chinatown, but I'd also like some more details on other ethnic regions in the city. Is there a barrio area maybe?

4) Are there any "Friendly Neighborhood" type of superheroes who don't deal with much outside their little part of San Angelo? Maybe having a lower-powered hero or two would be nice for a Spider-Man homage of some kind.

Excellent questions and suggestions, Steve! Those are some of the very questions I'm planning to answer in the new edition. The biggest challenge is getting the right author(s) in on the vision and then to write those supplements. (Ahem)

5) That would depend upon yourself, of course. We can't answer that for you. Only you can answer that.

I'm confident I will learn what I need to in discussions with the appropriate folks. ;)

;__; They have a better Radio Market that the bay Area has now. ?

Oh, dear. Well, San Angelo is a pretty big market...

You need to have a College Radio station orf low to moderate power for the strange music, conspiracy shows, and "public access" type public affairs shows.

Got ya covered. KVSA 96.5 is the university station, plus there's also KXQD 92.7, the public radio station. ;)

Goldrush Games might want to talk to the Head Men of Hero Games before they start work, ...

Minor correction: "Gold Rush Games" is three words. ;) And not to worry; we are in touch with Hero Games in regards to matters like these.

12:00-1:00: Another superhero documentary program.

1:00-3:00: Afternoon Supermovie

3:00-4:00: Superhero adventure drama

4:00-5:00: Another superhero adventure drama

11:00-12:00: Late Night Cape Patrol

The quotes from San Angelo citizens were a popular element of our books Here's one for the update.

"Have you been to New Faith United? Oh my gosh, it is an amazing church! You walk and, like, instantly feel welcomed. The people and so friendly and nice to be around. We absolutely love the Pastor and his preaching style. The messages are just so powerful and informative. They are an affirming church, too. That's important, you know. Did you know that Corona got married there?"

Citizen quotes are great. Like...

"San Angelo is a great place to live. Always full of action and excitement. Just don't go down in the sewers, or sleep in the old San Angelo cemetery or the old abandoned VIPER base under 23 street, and you'll find out it is a great place."

Enthusiastic fan quotes for some of the San Angelo sports teams and events, especially super sports would be a great addition. How about Super Major League Baseball or Super Rugby Union? Super Soccer (Football), Super National Football League, Super NBA.... Maybe some non-realworld sports specifically for superheroes: Furious Psionic Fights, or Eldritch Arcane Duels, Around the Moon NASCAR...

A good real-world match for San Angelo might be Oroville, California, the county seat of Butte County.  It's close to Lake Oroville and the surrounding recreational area.

Willows, California, the home of Thunderhill Raceway Park, a motorsports facility owned by the San Francisco Region of the Sports Car Club of America, is in the county just west of Butte County.

Not really. Mostly because the networks guard the rerun rights of shows like To Save The World, especially if the show is still running. If the show is in syndication reruns, like Dark Shadows, then Super! can get one in one of the action drama slots.

Super flavored soap opera names.

"To Save The World"

"One Life To Give"

Who can forget the Champions Universe's own "The Capes Of Wrath"

"El Superamegos" makes for a telenovela-style show

"Princesses And Unicorns" makes for a fantasy style show (think super soap mixed with D&D)

What else should be on the dial?

Every superhero game needs bad guys... even non-super ones. Here's some more eye candy for you fans, old and new!

A few criminal motorcycle gangs are active in San Angelo. Outlaw bikers are known for their beloved motorcycles, often outlandish clothing and anarchic, violent behavior. Some motorcycle gangs are national organizations with chapters in various cities. A few travel the country, and others are purely local. Every outlaw biker gang has a set of “colors,” ragged jackets emblazoned with a patch, logo or other distinctive mark. Next to his motorcycle, his colors are an outlaw biker’s proudest possession. (Source: San Angelo: City of Heroes, 1998)

Any connection between the biker gang Vipers and a certain serpent-themed criminal paramilitary organization? Either VIPER or COIL.

Of course not. And any member of the Vipers MC will tell you that straight to your face.

Here's another update to the setting I thought you folks would like to see.

Team Savior Boiz (TSB)
A group of six full-powered meta-human teens has effective “leadership” of the Exiles gang, at least in terms of notoriety and popularity. The members' "stage names" include Dominace, Spyker, Razor (the leader), Mana, J-Hood, Arc, and Askari.
They liken themselves to the equivalent of a meta-human K-Pop boy band. The group claims to commit acts “in solidarity with disenfranchised and underrepresented youth.” The reality is that they are teens drunk with their own power(s), who commit criminal and violent acts in the name of the Exiles.
Most other members think TSB is “lit,” but a growing number disapprove of their behavior and the negative reputation that all Exiles are gaining as a result.
Today, thanks to social media, TSB and the Exiles have both gained a lot of attention. They have a nearly cult status among disenfranchised teens. The Exiles have a following of about 25,000 so-called “normal” young people in San Angelo, and another 670,000 throughout the world. Each of the members of TSB have legions of female fans who follow them on social media.
Members:
  • Amir Bahar (aka Dominace)
  • Brandon Weber (aka Spyker)
  • Jae Lee (aka Razor)
  • Jason Maivia (aka Mana)
  • Kevin Lee (aka J-Hood)
  • Ramesh Singh, (aka Arc)
  • Stephon Thomas (aka Askari)

Here is hoping that Mana is not exactly like his J-Pop namesake, othoe having a superpowered teenage boy dress like a girl lolita (boylita) might be interesting.

National Guard Armories, and Reserve Centers need to noted. The Bay Area is mostly Logistics and Intel. The Central Valley is mostly Air Cav (and May have airport access)  Central Coast is armor and heavy artillery. Southern California is mostly training, logistics, and heavy lift, but with several active bases left. Active bases in the Central Valley area are Lemoore NAS, Travis AFB, and Beale AFB on the north end.

National Guard Armories are often raided by villains looking for Military grade weapons. Reserve centers are often vehicle parks with maintenance facilities, containing vehicles with arcane start up procedures, and difficult controls. However on weekends, these facilities are staffed.l with combat veterans, and part time soldiers. With the tempo of operations since 9-11, a lot of the equipment is uprated with new protections , but also a bit worn.

May I suggest that there is a National Guard armored scout unit based in San Angelo. They would be mostly equipped with Stryker type wheeled armored vehicles, (some with large anti-tank cannons, or TOW missiles) and other light vehicles. For serious threats, the governor could mobilize them but in a Super universe they would mostly be clean up after the events, or area security, or back up for large PRIMUS operation. There may be a Reserve unit as well in town. But Federal activation is much slower than the mayor calling the governor.
