World Creation Superdraft 3: July 2019

Oh, why not jump in.

Pandemonium's primary domain is Chaos and Madness

His Geography is the world is a Torus

(I'm going with the hoop model with about six earth-masses but fairly earthlike gravity all around. This gives us a day that is 3.5 hours long, but that is a problem for the god of heavens. Also, tides are going to be strange or non-existent, but that is a problem for the god of waters. Or I might address both with interference. bwahaha)

Doomsayer made Babylon, the Garden City, the Emerald City, the City of the World's Desire. A vast city of canals and highways, where every roof and open space is a park and an orchard and a kitchen garden. At the center is the verdure-enshrouded ziggurat of Doomsayer himself, from where his priests rules his city in his name.

More snipage ... the madness part, not the genus 1 part.  Hmmm.

Arepo

Is the Goddess of Death and Rebirth.

Her geography  is Jurmunganger the Long Land, a single narrow twisting continent that encircles the entire Torus - or would if at any given moment 30 to 59% of it were not underwater. Which is sea and which is land shifts according to complex interlocking cycles of varying lengths.

Ah, the standard fantasy model of feudalism, so simple. What one man says goes, and everyone just agrees that this is his right. Pandemonium likes it not! let there be the chaos of 10,000 voices clamoring, each with wants and beliefs that demand to be heard!

Gift to civilization: Parliamentary Republics with professional bureaucracies.

Of course, those republics are often very complicated (see elements of medieval Venice) and vary greatly in terms of who gets a voice (it is very possible to have a theocratic or military republic), and those bureaucracies are almost always Byzantine. Assume all sentient races get Bureaucracy 8- as a background skill.

The item did not know how it came to be here. Perhaps someone had once made it, in another world, another place, but it was here now, and there was a need....

this was a world where beings, mortal beings would need to adapt to survive, to create tools for hand (Or whatever) to do things better-faster-stronger-doubleplusgood while at the same time indulging in creative urges to bring harmony-bliss-optimal connectivity!

And so it became a god, and it got to work.

Concinnant is the God of Crafts and Invention!

You can see the symbol in every temple, shrine or piece of writing dedicated to Olos.

Olos favours one type of beast above all others.

They can be found everywhere. They come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colours. It is said that they are the spies of Olos. That they carry prayers to him. And messages from him. They can exist on any terrain.

Olos creates Birds as his Fauna

Tziruü proclaims Its contribution to the physical circumstances of the world.

Our sibling Pandemonium made the world a torus, and a rapidly rotating one at that.  We acknowledge and celebrate this great gift, and augment it.

In conventional physics, a rotating toroidal array of electric charge generates a simple dipole magnetic field, and We confirm and enhance this.  This field wraps around the torus, bunching up into stronger "ropes" that come and go unpredictably over durations of some 50 or so hours; at greater intervals the writhing "ropes" may cross and reconnect.

These writhing, twisting magnetic "ropes", invisible by themselves, capture energetic ions from the deep void of space, and escaping atoms of gas from the atmosphere of the world.  These ions and atoms collide in the confinement of the field, and where they are plentiful the captured gas glows.  These are the Wormlight, twisting, shifting in shape, location, color, and brilliance, and provide illumination without warmth everywhere on the world's surface.  When "ropes" reconnect, the hot gas flares to piercing brilliance for a few minutes around and in the crossing channels.

In those regions on the Holeward surface of the world where the air is clear and the Wormlight is temporarily dimmer, inhabitants of the world can see other luminous ropes wrapping around the complementary side of the world-torus, passing through the Hole and lighting the world there.  There is thus no doubt among the sighted denizens that the world is indeed a torus, and that the Lord of Worms illuminates it for all who can see.
