The Most Annoying Song of All Time

I have a few songs that annoy me---but I'm not going to say what they are.

 

You see, I like some of the songs posted here.  Not all of them, but some.  And any song I do dislike is almost guaranteed to be somebody else's favorite.  So why should I ruin someone's good time by proclaiming, "This here song suckses!"

 

Of course, that's sort of what I'm doing by posting this message to the thread.  My apologies---but it's not that great a game, anyway.

That maybe a personal thing as I could not ****ing escape it for over a year, but I hate that song with a passion. Whitney has talent, but in this case it felt more like 'see how long I can scream?'

To this day I can't stand it. I actually got up in the first two minutes of Spider-Man far from Home when it began to play. ( I came back two minutes later)

Folks are like 'oh it fit, it was funny' I don't doubt them. I also don't care. That song has become an auditory assault for me.

 

Seconded for the very reason you mentioned. That song just hurt my ears.

 

Right now I have a special hate for "Feel It Still" by Portugal. The Man. A local casino (Graton Resort & Casino) is using it for almost all its commercials. At first I thought it was an update of "Please, Mr. Postman" by the Marvelettes, but I was wrong. Thank God for the mute button!

 

Also,  anything being sung by Mariah Carey is pretty annoying to me. She's just too shrill for me.

Thankfully, I have got over my hate of Earth Wind & Fire's That's the Way of the World, which was played repeatedly every night by the idiot next door in the dorm my ... sophomore? ... year.  And this was 45 years ago, well before the invention of MP3 players, CDs, and repeat features; I don't know if he was doing it with a cassette player or vinyl, but I think the latter because cassettes couldn't rewind that fast.

 That's the Waty of the World was a daily signoff for a  DJ one one of the stations here in the bay Area, and, it was kind of a way to go to sleep as it was 10 PM.  As for the repeat function, it was something certain turntables could do. Also 8Tracks never rewound, so they would play as a cycle over and over..

 

I guess the biggest factor of annoyance was, and still is repetition, and stations in the 70's  (Im looking at you KFRC 610AM), where they had to play X number of hits every hour, and other songs would cycle out of rotation fairly quickly.

If you look at the list of worst Youtube videos list you will find a number of annoying songs. Like Friday by Rebecca Black. It;'s her voice.

Then there is 'It's Everyday Bro' by Jake Paul. If you don't already dislike Jake Paul here is a good reason to start.

And How it is Wap Bap by Bibi H. I can't describe how bland and repetitive it is. 517 thousand likes and 3 Million dislikes.

Gucci Gang by Lil Pump just repeats the phrase Gucci Gang.

 

 I'm not posting the videos to these because while I might inflict some torture on the board the Geneva Convention (and Simon) prohibit things that are that offensive.

A song that was popular enough to chart high and get tons of airplay clearly was  not annoying to a lot of people.

 

Poll this in the mid-sixties, and many people would likely suggest that "rock and roll and other children's records *" are all annoying.

I find Bohemian Rhapsody annoying. It was No 1 for 9 weeks in the UK and it changed too much for me. It may be claimed by some that it was rehabilitated by Wayne's World but I still remember how I felt at the time. I know that I would be contradicted by many that is why I did not list it.

Very few songs annoy me enough to make me switch radio stations.  "Who Let the Dogs Out" by Baha Men is the only one I can think of right now.

Annoying is subjective. A song may be popular, but that doesn't mean you have to like it. Likewise, you may like a song other people find annoying.

 

Also consider why you find something annoying. In my case, I get annoyed with certain songs/jingles/sounds because the TV stations play it almost every commercial break. Too much exposure can lead to irritation. At one point I used the mute button every time the station went on commercial break to give my ears a break.

 

For example, I really hate hearing those five notes at the end of an Intel commercial because tv stations usually played Intel commericials every break. That was just too much exposure for me. I had to mute my tv whenever I realized an Intel commercial was being shown.

Couple of things I just wanted to say.

 

First, I stopped in to say that, while it took many decades, I finally came to realize that two primary differences between "decent music" and "utter cap" are repetition and volume.  Without either of those in excess, it seems most music becomes bearable.  The entire music industry, perversely, is the reason that we absolutely hate all the songs they want us to love.  Music is not marriage!  The Stockholm Syndrome does _not_ apply!

 

 

At least, I _was_ going to say exactly that.  I was going to say exactly that as I waded through every sample given on this thread, right up until I clicked that little tiny picture above.

 

 

That changed my mind.  I've never heard that song before, and I don't generally keep my computer's volume particularly loud.  In spite of that, that song is quite possibly once of the worst things I've ever exposed myself to.  I have no idea how it got on the charts at all.  :/

I think the only reason this soulless piece of tripe ever got aired was the slight risque factor for the era.  I just wanted to mention that 1) I never liked it, and 2) I listened to it a lot _specifically_ for the vocals of the young black woman: her voice is _tremendous_, and I kept hoping she'd dump the rest of these zombies and go do something great with her talent.

While I can't stand any Prince song (to be honest, it's the singer that I don't like) I reserve special hatred for "Raspberry Beret."  But then again, that song was played repeatedly for weeks by my upstairs neighbor.  Often at 2 am.  And always on the Hammond organ. 

 

Some songs are okay (or at least tolerable) on the Hammond organ.  "Raspberry Beret" ain't one of them.

It took me about 10 years to be able to listen to the song, "Just What I Needed" by the Cars. Back when I was working at Circuit City, they licensed the song for advertising. Corporate sent a CD of just that song to the store managers so that they could play the song in the morning huddle, but our store manager had other ideas. He put it as the only disc in the 5-disc changer that we'd use for Christmas music, and set it for repeat play.

 

A day and a half later, the CD experienced a weird malfunction while the store manager was out of the building for lunch. Somehow, the disc migrated from the player, and ended up in the employee breakroom microwave, where it committed suicide in a tiny plasma arc display. The remnants of the disc then somehow ended up shattered on the warehouse floor after flying into a sprinkler system standpipe at high velocity. Both employees and customers raised a cheer when the music stopped.

If the criteria for "Annoying" is "It makes me want to switch the station the second I hear it", then I'll nominate every single song by INXS. ("Devil Inside" gets special recognition.) Also, pretty much everything by The Doors and The Rolling Stones. And nearly everything out of Nashville for the last 15 years or so, with the notable exception of Brad Paisley.

 

But that's just me.

As far as I'm concerned Hermit has already won the thread with that Whiney Houston song.  I'd also like to mention songs that are really just a few lines of music played over and over again, repeatedly, over and over again, repeatedly, over and over again.  This includes Bob Seger's "I Wanna Get Lost In Your Rock And Roll", Steve Miller Band's "The Joker", and any "hit" by George Harrison.

I can only assume you have not watched or heard any of the ones I submitted. They are much worse. I guarantee that.

But I also understand you not wanting to watch or hear the songs. They are worth avoiding at all costs.

Brad Paisley is a gem , a very funny gem at times, in an often questionable country music ravine

As long as they don't have slide guitar. Slide guitar in Country and Western music is proof of the existence of the devil. I didn't see Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters show not to understand that.
