The Old C64 Video Game

Recommended Posts

I ran across a site about unfinished and unreleased Comador 64 games, and post about the C64 Champions game. Unfortunately,  beyond my eyes, and faulty memory,  there is no proof it existed. If anyone has any proof,  please share it.

I don't recall it being for C64. I seem to remember it was going to be a windows game. However, the game never came into being, if I recall correctly, due to technical difficulties. Beyond that, ya got me.

Pete Ruttman had a HERO Combat Simulator in the mid-90s or so.

Ken Zarifes (maybe?) was working on a Champions video game around that time, but I think only the costume designer made it past the design phase.

This was the only Champions game that they were talking about back in the days.

It was highlighted in Computer Gaming World Issue 93/April 92 ( http://www.cgwmuseum.org/galleries/index.php?year=1992&pub=2&id=93 )

I had so hoped that would come out.

Me too. I remember hearing about it in Adventurer's Club #18 back in '92. It had a review in it, and an awesome Perez cover.

Oh my god!  This again. I worked on that damned game. The crew was Steve Peterson, Ken Zarifies, Nicky Robinson, her (soon to be ex) husband, Ray Greer, Bryce Nakagawa, and myself. It was  for 386, and 486 machine gun it’s SVGA capability, and it was my first computer animation gig, out of college, and Lordy was that a labor intensive game. Bryce and I replaced another artist, who’s well drawn porn comic took off. We scrapped his character art, and Bryce took over interface and some backgrounds and I did character sprites and effects. It was a slog as the scale of the characters changed (smaller) and the animation catalogue increased. The test and convention builds worked well, but he bottleneck was the scripting system; and Steve could not get a handle on it, especially with the 3in. Disk based limits. Hardware was tiny back then. Only the character generator from that game made it out of that project. That became Heromakr.exe which shipped with the BigBlueBook.

Thank you for the information Scott.

That kinda reminds me, anyone wrote up Red Devil? My take on him was that he was a circus fire eater who turned to crime, using Gypsy secrets to turn his fire eating skills to bonified super powers.

For those who don't remember, Red Devil was the guy who fireballs "Mario" in the demo show.
