Sociotard
Grab your Scholastic order forms, kids! It's time for the Reading Rainbow Superdraft! Every draft gets a lot of characters from movies, television, and comics. It's time for a book based draft! All your characters for this draft must have first come from a book. If a character has been in movies, but was a book first (Huckleberry Finn), that is acceptable. If the character was in a movie, tv show, or comic first, that is not okay. I will allow characters that started in oral tradition (Robin Hood), that is acceptable. Poetry will be allowed. Plays and radio shows will not. We will begin Monday March 2. We will not draft on weekends (giving me time to get caught up) at noon eastern. What to draft: One (1) Author. Whose prose will appear? living or dead. Seven (7) characters. I'll let you decide what ratio of villains and heroes and whatnot. Three (3) Options. Maybe more characters, maybe settings, maybe props. Surprise me. One week to go, so hit me with the questions, just in case the rules need finesse. Hermit, L. Marcus and Old Man 1

Pariah
We can draft characters not created by the author we choose, correct? (E.g., I could draft Edgar Allen Poe as author and then Dr. Frankenstein as a character?)

(E.g., I could draft Edgar Allen Poe as author and then Dr. Frankenstein as a character?) Correct. You are drafting prose, craft, and style, not bodies of work. Decide if you want clear windows or stained glass, as the metaphor goes.

Cancer
But isn't Pride and Prejudice all about seeking rings? Wedding rings?
Pariah
It's not about the rings so much as it is about the £10,000/year that comes with them.

assault
OK, Shakespeare isn't legit, except for his poems. Also, what about historical figures? A lot of them show up in literature, often quite differently.
Sociotard
Hmm, I did say oral tradition was okay, and a lot of those have at least a weak basis is history. Oh, why not. Historical figures, as long as you can cite the novel.

Sociotard
Yeah, I have a reputation for running drafts that not enough people try out, or bomb for other reasons. Hoping for the best!
Cancer
I'll try this one, but I am wrestling with proto-concepts and which direction to take. Having been frantically busy the last couple of weeks ... something that won't be letting up for a while yet ... has impeded my progress. Pariah
I expect you're right. But if those characters didn't appear in a book before the television series, I think you're probably out of luck on this one.
