Old Man
Herd Immunity is Not a Thing In light of these findings, any proposed approach to achieve herd immunity through natural infection is not only highly unethical, but also unachievable. Anyone who only checks them then is going to get a very skewed idea of how the pandemic is progressing. Decrease...but still 10% higher on the 5th than on June 28th. The 4th was about 5% higher than June 27th. So don't be surprised if we see the 60,000 mark surpassed...this week. I just hope we don't crack the 100,000 mark in 2-3 weeks...if there's a major surge due to 4th of July get-togethers, planned and otherwise. Also of note, we passed 3M today. 6 weeks to go from 1M to 2M. 4 weeks to go from 2M to 3M. At the current pace, 4M is about 3 weeks out. Clonus
In the petty complaints department CHCH began running syndicated Mission Impossible reruns in the middle of the pandemic at noon. Which means that every day at noon the premier of Ontario breaks in to talk about the situation. And I'm wondering, given that they know that Ford is going take over the time slot every single week day, why are they they pretending that that is the time when Mission Impossible is on? Why not just schedule a Ford announcement newssegment and call it that? Unless it's just sarcasm that the name on the schedule for Premier Ford speeches is "Mission Impossible". Lord Liaden
I was just watching a YouTube "Let's Player" looking to escape from some of the suckage of 2020... by playing The Last of Us 2. This might not be the best year for that.

Lord Liaden
I don't normally wish bad things to anyone, but Bolsonaro needs to be hit with this virus, hard. His irresponsible statements and actions have been leading his people to ignore medical advice and local government instructions, making Brazil's situation much worse. Even if he's too ignorant and stubborn to learn better (which I think is likely), his standing with the public on this issue should be undermined. Lord Liaden
Sweden Has Become the World’s Cautionary Tale A crucial passage which the article elaborates further: Ever since the coronavirus emerged in Europe, Sweden has captured international attention by conducting an unorthodox, open-air experiment. It has allowed the world to examine what happens in a pandemic when a government allows life to carry on largely unhindered. This is what has happened: Not only have thousands more people died than in neighboring countries that imposed lockdowns, but Sweden’s economy has fared little better. “They literally gained nothing,” said Jacob F. Kirkegaard, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington. “It’s a self-inflicted wound, and they have no economic gains.” pinecone

assault
Coronavirus Victoria: Melbourne to re-enter stage 3 lockdown restrictions for six weeks "Metropolitan Melbourne will go into stage-three lockdown for six weeks from 11.59pm on Wednesday after the state of Victoria recorded 191 new cases of coronavirus since Monday, the highest daily increase since the pandemic began." For comparison, in Queensland: Queensland novel coronavirus (COVID-19) update 7 July 2020 "Queensland has one new case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) to report today, bringing total cases to 1068." Apparently this new case is a member of the Defense Force, just returned from another country.
