Thankfully we got all of my lab class meetings in already. But the lecture material remaining is still a chunk to be covered, and how to deal with a non-local final is a challenge even for my dice methods. Wimps. So, this is a win for you essentially. RPMiller
Personally, I'm loving all the fear. My flights have been far less crowded. I'm expecting to get first class upgrades for my flights next week, but we'll see. Armory

Matt the Bruins
0 confirmed cases in my state with 6 negative tests and 99 under observation. Thanks be to the Flying Spaghetti Monster that we don't have much in the way of tourism during the winter months. I heard from a friend that her brother, who is supposed to be going to one of the quarantined cruise ships to administer testing, was asking her for help making arrangements with coastal locals to get him transport to the ship. Just to give you an idea of how organized and effective the government's response plan is so far.

Cancer
It seems that they are considering large-scale quarantines here, i.e., all of Seattle, or King County, or some such. I am mildly amused to that I might be included in the "Locked Up -- Contagious -- Don't Care If You Live Or Die But Please Hurry Up About It Whatever You Do" zone. I might need my post-apocalypse kit sooner than I had anticipated.

Old Man
You know, it was only a week ago that I was reading posts on Reddit from people who were adamant that COVID-19 "only infects Asians", "only kills the elderly", or that it was "just another flu". edit: Now Reddit is full of posts from people who are sick, but won't get tested because they'll be charged $7500, and won't stay home from work because they can't make rent otherwise. death tribble
We've had a few deaths. However Italy has locked down the North of the country. As for the My Corona parody, did I know call this earlier ?
Starlord
As of a few hours ago there are still no confirmed cases here in Ohio. My working theory is that while people are worried about COVID-19 coming to their state and catching the virus, the virus is worried about coming to Ohio and catching the stupid. ScottishFox
Lots of maturity out in the world. Stock market trading halted after a nearly 2,000 point drop to kick off the day. The real traders will be fleecing the public as people make short-term silly panic trades.
Old Man
And Spain jumps into contention with a 50% increase in cases, making them the seventh country to break the 1000-case mark! They're in a tight group with France and Germany, but still far behind the trio of South Korea, Italy, and Iran in the 7000s. So far no one is in striking distance of the leader, but in this pandemic anything can happen! Doc Democracy

My understanding is that the elderly and immunocompromised are far more likely to have severe and critical cases of the illness. In China the mortality rate so far is 14.8% for ages 80+ against overall mortality of 2.3% (still more than 20 times as deadly as the standard flu, if you get it). As someone with a mother about to turn 81 in a few weeks, you can understand I might not be jumping for joy just because younger people aren't too likely to suffer serious harm from it. Old Man
The thing to note is that a mortality of 2.3% for us youngsters is still really damn high. TrickstaPriest

Old Man
And even if you survive, accounts from people who've had it make it clear that it's no fun at all. Expect it to knock you on your ass for a full week, and a total of three weeks of symptoms.
Starlord
Given there's an unknown, but probably vast, amount of people who have it and have little to no symptoms and/or haven't been tested, the mortality rate is probably lower than reported. That's what our doctors told the wife and me. Armory and Pattern Ghost
