So thanks for your patience and diligence finding it. I've been using Newsguard for a bit now. It's not perfect, but it generally identifies the sites that can't be trusted at all and points out the key flaws of the ones that get a passing grade. Trust is not earned much these days. Most times that I fail to get 2 or 3 confirming sources I end up regretting it. TrickstaPriest

Many of us have taken that message to heart, and that may fuel positive change in future. Probably not enough to prevent major bad stuff from happening, but perhaps enough to ameliorate it. Old Man
The U.S. is rocketing away from the rest of the world in total case count, though the trajectory is going linear rather than exponential. The U.S. has already surpassed China in reported deaths, as has France. None of these yet approach the Spanish death toll, at nearly three 9/11s, or Italy, at four. Old Man
Over 8000 Italian health workers have tested positive for coronavirus. 61 doctors in Italy have been killed by it.

The rate of growth for the US case count is unclear. NBC News has a graph...26th-28th, it was consistent at ~ 18,000 new cases a day. 29th, tho, was 20,000, and yesterday 22,000. And of course, how much of this is truly new cases, or simply tests becoming more common? HOPE you're right that the curve's flattening somewhat, but it's early. Scary aspect...death rate is now about 2% of total known cases. Scary aspect #2: combined death tolls in Italy and Spain will pass the estimated number of people *injured* in 9/11 within a couple of days. 25,000 estimated non-fatal injuries from 9/11; Italy and Spain, 21,000 deaths. Another comparison came to mind. In 3-4 days, more people will have died from CV worldwide, than the number of US soldiers killed in Vietnam. The death trajectory, sadly, will be likely the most accurate measure of pace. The next 3 months will be a combination of boredom, depression and terror. unclevlad and TrickstaPriest 1

unclevlad
<wince> <wince> US death toll today is nipping at the heels........of Spain's. Not the total number, but today's. Right now Worldometers is showing a touch over 700 today. And their definition of a day (midnight GMT) isn't quite over.
