Old Man
I read somewhere that the Packers have not drafted a first round skill position player since 2012. But A-Rodg is the problem, right?
Badger
COurse, Rodgers being around a long time is a little different. But, it always drives me insane, when a team drafts a QB, and then goes "well, that solves our offense, no need to get actual OLmen and skill guys. He can do it by himself". I can see it already happening in Cincy now that they got Burrow. Note: course, we've already established the lineman half bothers me more. Might want to protect (literally) your investment. (GMs in the future who do this will forever be referred to as contracting "Luck's Disease") 2nd Note: At least Russell Wilson is adept with his Fran Tarkenton imitation. Badger
And yeah, in the Sports Weekly, for GB, the list of needs above QB (an heir apparent was listed) was a TE (since the one they got is as old as Rodgers), a WR other than Adams, and depth at OL. SO, essentially the only thing on offense they needed less than a QB was RB. But, maybe they'll make Jordan Love this generation's version of young Kordell Stewart. ANd if they wanted to trade up for Love, they probably could have done that with the 2nd rder. (him, still being on their, was probably indicative of him making to mid-2nd. (it doesn't seem like many QBs ever go early 2nd, most teams who need a QB and were bad enough to pick early in rounds probably blew their 1st on one. (biggest need or not be damned) I mean it probably happens (I think Browns after picking Garrett 1st comes to mind). But, I'd be cool taking the risk. Seems maybe sometimes GMs like a player too much.

Badger
And with their 2nd rd pick the Packers chose...... a RB? They've done a good strengthening their 2 most secure offensive positions

They've done a good strengthening their 2 most secure offensive positions It’s like they’re trolling Aaron Rodgers at this point. There is plenty of analysis online that Packers drives stall because he can’t trust his WRs to come down with the ball, so he throws it into the stands. That’s how he keeps his interceptions down. Badger
I think I understand the 2nd rd pick. Hey, we already trolled Rodgers, let's troll Aaron Jones. (maybe their GM hates guys named Aaron). So, who is their best defensive player? THat'll tell us who they'll get a backup for with their next pick. Or maybe they'll draft a long snapper. Pariah
ESPN's Michael Wilbon seems to think that Aaron Rodgers may be done in Green Bay and will be finishing his career in . . . Chicago?
Pariah
I can't seem to find a solid number, but it looks like the Donkeys have either five or six tight ends on the roster right now, including the guy they signed away from Pittsburgh a few days ago. So naturally they drafted a tight end in the fourth round.
Old Man
The Raiders' draft almost makes sense so far. It's disorienting. Meanwhile it looks like Green Bay has the Worst Draft title all sewn up.
Badger
Yeah, although their 3rd and 5th aren't hugely awful. Though the TE in round 3, well they should have just chucked the 3rd round pick instead of the 4th, and still have got him (and it would look better too). Though, at best he looks like good, serviceable career #2 type TE. ANd the linebacker at 5th, fills a need, but his scouting report screams All-Pro Special Teamer (but what can you expect in the 5th rd. But since they decided to drink through the 1st 2 rds, you have to find true diamond in the roughs to make up for it. ANd they are more safe, lower peak type players, who will likely fill that peak, but nothing special. But, maybe Jordan Love and AJ Dillon will be their #2 and #3 receivers respectively this year. Though, I doubt they actually are going to try to make Dillon be the next Eric Metcalf, and doing that with Love would be 10x dumber than trading up to pick him in the first place. Badger
The Green Bay Packers: At least we've done better this offseason than Bill O'Brien.
Badger
And I don't get the criticism of Jalen Hurt to the Eagles. They need someone to QB during the playoffs. Pariah and Grailknight 1
Old Man
I love Rotoworld sometimes. Dolphins selected LSU LS Blake Ferguson with the No. 185 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Ferguson (6'3/229) was considered the best snapper of snaps that must travel a longer distance than typical snaps by those who evaluate such things. He will bring national championship experience to plays that require the ball be snapped farther back than usual. GB: Packers add WR...just kidding, draft OL Jon Runyan
Badger
Well, the Packers did also need depth on the line. Just would have been if they were going to address such a need before the 6th. Backup QBs, and 3rd string RBs, are more important than getting your franchise QB on-field bodyguards. Or live targets to throw balls at. Packer fans to Eagles fans: Don't complain about your 2nd pick being for a backup QB, at least wasn't the 1st rd. And you didn't give up a 4th to move to do it. You got of easy. Badger
Of another note: People also seem to be comparing the Rodgers-Love situation with the Rodgers-Favre one. It is true both were 35+ QBs having a successor drafted. But, one difference. Favre had "contemplated " retirement every offseason since grade school. THat is screaming "you might want to invest in a Plan B". Favre had no one to blame but himself. Not to mention, he kept contemplating after every offseason until the Packers said you know what, lets just go with Rodgers (ok if I remember Favre came out of retirement that year 2 weeks into training camp)
Pariah
I read an article somewhere yesterday speculating that the Packers might be hoping to groom Jordan Love into this generation Kordell Stewart. It makes as much sense as any other explanation I've read, I suppose.
Badger
Well, if we are going by Stewart first couple of years. taysom hill beat them to it. Though Hill, doesn't really have the potential to be anything more as a QB, I don't think.
Michael Hopcroft
And Georgia linebacker Tae Crowder is this year's "Mister Irrelevant", being taken by the New York Giants with the final pick in the draft. Strangely I seemed to hear Crowder's name a lot during his collegiate career. Players taken that low in the draft often find themselves on rpactice squads or with no NFL job at all after training camps, but some Mr. Irrelevants have gone on to decent careers. And Blake Ferguson is an inspired [pick from the Dolphins. Long snapping is a vital skill, and players that are good at it worth the money. When the long snapper does his job you don't read about it, but a good long snapper is worth his weight in gold.

Old Man
Andy Dalton released by the Bengals. Jags and Pats rumored to be showing interest.
Badger
Speaking of the Patriots. With the mystifying picks of Green Bay. It was lost a bit, that the Patriots draft spoke clearly. "Last year's shortcomings were all Brady's fault". Cant count out NE voodoo, but Belicheck's ego may cause the devil to finally come to collect on that soul he was promised 2 decades ago. Old Man
Belichick was directly asked why he didn't draft a QB and the gist of his answer was that he meant to, but no QBs fell to the Pats at a decent value.
Badger
Yeah, I can actually understand them not drafting a QB, if they like Stidham. But, they did Stidham really no favors. When (similar to the Packers) they most needed help with getting the QB targets. They only did slightly more than the Packers in that regard (some mid-rd potential TE). They went after defense, when I thought that was already their strength last year (I cant remember if and how many free agents they might have had with that though) Note: It kind of motivates me to want nothing more of next season, but for TB to be better than NE Cancer
