Perhaps, but I still find it a philosophically interesting question, in part because there is no pat answer. I have experienced white privilege in several ways. I have been in positions where I could have been shot but the police restrained themselves and sent me to a hospital rather than jail. I've lived all my life on a West Coast that originally belongs to other peoples and cultures. There are probably all sorts of ways I have benefited from white privilege that I am completely unaware of. It's unavoidable -- but that doesn't make it right.4 points -

So, I just put in for a week of time off right after the election. You know, just in case, our democracy depends on 2 to 4 million people showing up in Washington DC and demanding that the vote be honestly reported and it's result honored. I'm a middle age, middle class, white guy and my student activist 30+ years behind me. It is bizarre that I would even have to consider the need for such a thing, much less that I have requested time off over 3 months in advance to cover the thing. So hopefully in November, my wife and I will take a short fall vacation and laugh a3 points

Hi, everyone! I just posted Hero Designer files and PDF writeups for King Arthur Pendragon, Queen Guinevere, and Sir Lancelot of the Lake in the downloads section from British legends. If there's sufficient interest, I may come up with writeups for some of the Knights of the Round Table and assorted villain knights they faced such as Mordred, Turquine, etc. https://www.herogames.com/files/file/526-king-arthur-queen-guinevere-and-sir-lancelot/2 points

Someone should ask him, does that include street gang territory? Or the big cat pen in the zoo? Or over Niagara Falls? Brave isn't stupid. It isn't fear to take sensible precautions. I remember the Star Trek TNG episode, "Rightful Heir," featuring the alleged return of the Klingon leader Kahless, when he told this story: "Long ago, a storm was heading toward the city of Quin'lat. The people sought protection within the walls, all except one man who remained outside. I went to him and asked what he was doing. "I am not afraid," he said. "I will not hide my face behind stone and mort2 points -
This SO nails it to me, the absolutely BRAIN DEAD attitude of that last group of people. The other argument seems to be rooted in toxic masculinity...one poster on a local social app said "I'm not gonna wear a mask, I'll go where I want, I don't live in fear." I mean, I'm waiting on confirmation on that, not that I expect it'll be that hard... More to the point of what I was stating. Let's say the 'grabbings' are motivated by what the protesters are doing. They are still grabbing people off the street without identifying themselves, providing charges, or reading rights, not charging them ever, and releasing them the minute there's an actual legal issue about it. How is this supposed to help deal with the 'anarchists'? Again, the entire thing is explicitly what creates these protests to begin with!2 points -
We've been talking about what we can do to propagate Champions. Could we, together as a group, build a wiki that fleshes out an entire campaign world? We could have a blurb at the top that says, "Your contributions may be compiled into a campaign book and printed out. These profits will go to Hero Games." Like, if we made a huge campaign wiki, then we could then take excerpts of it and print it out. (The campaign world would have to be completely fresh. We couldn't borrow anything from existing intellectual properties.) The key to it is that we stat all of the character1 point

Well, Friday lightning hit near the house. Blew out the phones, the central air. The TV in the den along with the comcast cable box and ps4 connected to it. We actually had a new phone we hadn't set up yet. And the central air just needed a new fuse. And as for the ps4, I dont play on it much, so I can wait awhile if ever. The cable box and TV have proven another experience. Apparently, technology has reached a level in the ensuing years beyond my capabilities. Programming it has proved difficult and the few successful moments came when I threw the instruction manual in1 point

What villain organizations have you used?
Duke Bushido reacted to fdw3773 for a topic
Unfortunately, my access to Champions sourcebooks were limited to only the main books for Third and Fourth Edition, New Millennium, more recently Champions Complete along with the occasional Adventurers Club issue that came sporadically in the early to mid-1990s. As a result, I didn't really use VIPER or other major villain organizations published by Hero Games and had to adapt or create my own. Since most of the players I had were relatively new to the superhero genre, name recognition mattered so I incorporated villains they were familiar with from mainstream media or comics (e.g. Joker, Dr1 point -

Resistant defenses have always stopped the BODY and STUN from Killing Attacks. 🙂 Armor, Force Field, and Damage Resistance were three Powers that could grant a character resistant defenses. For first edition Fantasy Hero, the Shield effect (basically, Force Field) was used for magical armor/resistant defenses. Mundane armor was just armor, not a Power or spell effect. (There's a difference between game mechanics and Powers. Resistant defenses and killing damage are game mechanics; HKA, RKA, Resistant Protection, Armor and Force Field (up through 5th edition) are1 point -

They are not pretty. Aside from the usual practice of tearing up pacts with First Nations whenever they became inconvenient, there were missionaries sent in ahead of the settlers who were often brutal to the people under their care. Narcissa Whitman is a prime example -- she treated her charges so terribly that they and their parents got fed up and killed her. Oregon was also intended by its founders to be a "white utopia". There was a provision written into the state Constitution prohibiting African-Americans from even entering the state (out of fear they'd take the Natives' side)1 point -
These Boots Were Made For Stomping (5th Ed)
Scott Ruggels reacted to Grailknight for a topic
All of those are just variations of a kick using an HA and a stomp would be included with them. There is no mechanical difference present unless you are talking about specific MA moves, so I have to classify it as a descriptive SFX. If it were any power but an HA, i could see some small limitation but an HA can only be used in combination with an attack action anyway.1 point -

Reboot the CU Uuniverse, WWYD?
Tjack reacted to Lord Liaden for a topic
It should be noted that DOJ Inc. did just that when it took over the Champions IP. For example, VIPER's history, structure and personnel were greatly redefined, while DEMON was rendered nearly unrecognizable from its previous incarnation. Genocide was replaced by the smaller and less provocatively-named Institute for Human Advancement, and the whole "anti-mutant" dynamic in the CU was significantly reduced. Many long-standing Champions groups and villains were excised, e.g. Terror Inc, VOICE, Raven, Sanctuary; while many new ones were introduced, often to fill specific genre niches, like ARGEN1 point -

ScottishFox reacted to TrickstaPriest for a topic
I won't simply say 'the DHS memo should be ignored'. I'm all for fact-checking the heck out of any and all official documentation that comes from the government. Act on information, not on belief. The issue with 'fact checking' is there's investigative and scientific. Scientific details are easily fact-checked because, you know, they are repeatable. Investigative fact checking involves a record. And the integrity and completeness of that record becomes very important. It's interpretive, and selective cuts of information can provide wildly different interpretations.1 point -

As with any reporting, consider the source. DHS has already admitted/claimed responsibility for the "security" kidnappings. The credibility and fairness of its characterizations of these alleged incidents is at best highly suspect. The Trump administration has pushed past spin. We're into full-blown propaganda now.1 point -

I see in the other comments on this thread a lot of concentration on including everything that’s happened before and what the future history should include. There seems to be not enough consideration on what’s happening NOW. IMHO the most successful reboots in comics were the first ones. The beginning of the Silver Age with the Flash and the one that took place after the original Crisis on Infinite Earths. In each the main focus was on what was being used now, not what was being left behind. Things became too complex only when every story idea of the past had to be made a part of cur1 point

Burn down the too-big threats. No unusable "can wipe 4-6 PCs with half his AP tied behind his back" Mary Sues like Destroyer. No globe-spanning too-large-to-defeat organizations like VIPER. Set the world up so the PCs have the opportunity to pick a thing they don't like and let the campaign be how they get rid of it. Anything outside that scope has no business being in a superhero TTRPG setting. Do the same to the good guys. Nobody wants to play a game where the GMPCs are just around the corner being better than the PCs. Gut PRIMUS, UNTIL, all the other hero groups so the PCs can b1 point -
Reboot the CU Uuniverse, WWYD?
Boll Weevil reacted to Lord Liaden for a topic
I honestly don't feel like the CU needs a hard reboot. I'm quite happy with the way it is, at least overall. Certainly I would, and have, made many tweaks, shifted stuff around, filled in what I thought were blank spaces, but overall I consider it a solid framework for four-color supers gaming, which is my personal preference. For my part, I don't feel pigeonholed in MC. It's nice to have a developed city as a home base if you want one, but there's plenty of super activity in many of America's major cities. We also have Vibora Bay as a completely fictional alternative city. There i1 point -

Hero Designer is character generation software. And that's it. It has all the core rules for character generation but that's it. (See GB(i)'s post for clarification. This statement could've been really, really confusing and I didn't notice that until just now) The Downloads/Store section should give you some screenshots of the HD interface and some of the user uploaded export templates usually have the preview screen shots as well. Again, I believe Hero Designer is worth the investment if you're planning on running a game.1 point

New to Hero: Poisons
Duke Bushido reacted to Doc Democracy for a topic
The big element in HERO that is missing in other systems is the ability of the GM to make the physics and metaphysics of a campaign world work exactly as desired. The cost of that is a lot of upfront work and thinking time. If you want all poisons to be affected by a Cure Poison spell, then you need either to make all poisons use the same mechanic OR ensure that all poisons have a common limitation (effects mitigated by use of Cure Poison). You can then define Cure Poison as Healing, only versus poison. Once that is in place then it does not matter whether the poison is a SPD dr1 point -
