  1. I forget whether it was Professor Parker or Michael Kimmel (author of Angry White Men) who provided the breakdown of GOP voters I heard on ATC, but he said they are about 50% Trumpists, 40% willing to put up with him but wedded to policies rather than personality cult, and 10% Never Trumpers. So I'd guess that Trumpists own the primaries for at least the next few years. Kimmel closely followed the Capitol insurgency and the statements by the rioters. He found them all too familiar in their sense of "aggrieved entitlement." Like Prof. Parker, he finds that ardent Trumpists are not s

  2. Let us not forget the most accursed tome of them all--Seduction Of The Innocent. The work of the conformist scholar and covert magician Frederic Wertham, contained betwixt its lines of text and "scholarly" arguings, are subliminal incantations and charms designed to bewitch the unwary and the weak minded into following along with his miserable, deplorable campaign to suppress creativity and freedom of thought, to stifle beyond reviving the notion that great power could--and should--be used to protect the weak and defenseless, and advance the greater good. All in the name of instilling and pr

  4. Yes, that's likely to be the decision of some, but I don't think we can underestimate the level of sheer loathing that exists for the Democrats. How many Republicans were Never Trumpers...then voted for him in 2016? On the plus side...I felt in 2016 that if Trump was the Republican nominee, then the Dems would win easily. EXCEPT!!!! if the Dems nominated Hilary. For several reasons, but a big one was the absolute, *specific* hatred of Hilary as a Clinton. Her campaign style totally failed to galvanize her side...but it completely galvanized the Republicans, and not just the bas

  5. I like this staggered method. You can use those dice for a lesser effect, but not for a greater effect. If you can't change the power of effect, this would probably be a -1 Limitation (or valueless -0 Limitation if your simply buying the 5 point level, since your stuck at that level). Don't forget that "Mind Control" can also be a special effect. Professor X's "stop everyone in the room except..." power is a Mental Entangle with the special effect of Mind Control. Merrick from Yu-gi-oh has a "Make Mindslave" power which is obviously a Mental Transformation with the Mind Control spe

  6. I had hoped to be able to really dig into this tonight, but I have a pressing matter to attend shortly. I will still attempt a brief skip across the highlights, and hope the conversation is still lively tomorrow. Got that. The specifics of time, Phases, etc were for those playing at home. You never really know how many neophytes are just lurking, and I didn't see any reason to leave them confused. Takes Extra Time: one additional Phase. Cumulative, make two attacks: one additional Phase.

  10. In that case, the Krypticon (Mystic World, p. 57, 88-9) is the CU's equivalent of the Book of the Vishanti. Held for millennia by Earth's Archmage, presumed destroyed with the last Archmage, but you never know. Would I have statted it if it was meant to be lost forever? Here are some unofficial books of magic and lore I posited for my playtest campaigns, so some references are campaign-specific and not CU-compliant. I don't think any of them turned up in play, though. I can spin out this stuff by the yard. SEPHER GILGALIM The "Book of Whirling Motion" teaches thau

  11. Jim Hendren, a state senator from Arkansas, declared that he is leaving the GOP to become an independent. In his public statement as to why he's leaving, among his various reasons, he said something that if true, bodes very ill for the future of the Republican Party: "You can't win a primary without Trump's support, but you can't win a general election with it."

Thats why there was no animosity in anything I said. There still isn't. At this point I have been reminded why we dont generally agree: I have the ereoneous tendency to believe that you are looking for discussion more than an echo chamber. Before bowing out, I woukd like you to reconsider your reply, if only to save yourself a bit of dignity. As it stands, you are asking everyone r

  20. In any case, this is way off topic. How about this for a cost structure: Trivial effects (do something you already would like to do, read surface thoughts, just locate a mind, etc); say 5 points per d6 Major effects (do something you're opposed to, read deeper thoughts, show something unexpected or out of context); 7 points per d6 Severe effects (turn someone into a complete puppet, read forgotten memories, etc); 10 points per d6 That way, the top end stuff is 6d6 for a 60 active point campaign (average roll 21, that's double a normal person's EGO and you can basi

  21. Hope it turned out OK. Bank robbery is a classic for a reason. I'd try to explicitly NOT have hostages come into the situation. Have the customers escape in the initial chaos and the bank employees cowering in terror or filling empty bags with loot. Some players will shoot right through a hostage to reach a bad guy while others will bend over backwards to save hostages. And some players will take it personally if another player's PC shoots a hostage. You really need to have a better handle on the group dynamic before deliberately having the bad guys take hos

Plumbing repaired and we have electricity. The cleanup of our flooded room hasn't started yet but we have the ok from the insurance company to proceed. My kid's car was totaled, which wasn't a huge shock at this point. My cat is still missing and we've had to give up the physical search. Luckily our vet had a copy of the pet ID microchip number and distributed that to local shelters f

  27. Ultimate Mystic p. 173 describes the Raudhskinni and Graskinni, or "Red Skin" and "Gray Skin," legendary books of black magic from Iceland's folklore. They aren't formally part of the CU, but as folklore they can be grandfathered in. Instead of posting the relevant text, I suggest supporting HERO Games by buying the actual book. Dean Shomshak

  34. That was then. The party is polarizing, and looks to be fragmenting. Trump is taking the extremists with him. If Republican legislators try to chase after them, they turn off less extreme people who'd normally vote GOP. If they woo more moderate elements they alienate the Trumpists. In the meantime the real conservatives who believe in the party's stated values are abandoning both. None of those factions represent enough votes to win.

  35. Okay, Steve, let's see if we can find you some more dark light reading. 😈 The Mystic World pp. 90-91 sidebar names and briefly describes several artifacts from myth and legend, of such power that good-aligned mystics will use them only in extreme need. Power-hungry evil mages are more likely to seek them. Two of them can be counted as "books" (or at least written upon). The Book of Thoth: Egyptian tales tell of a grimoire written by Thoth, god of magic. The spells in this scroll make its owner the master of all the powers of nature, gods, and the dead; he incidentally u

As I see it (and I've had also some thoughts about changing the system in the past, so there's at least one more of us that sees a similar issue). - In combat, they are either hugely effective (remove a target from the battle immediately) or useless. They are too "all or nothing". - Out of combat, they can't achieve effects that seem trivial in the source material.

  38. If we're referring to hospitals, they have always been a substatnial user of the power grid -- for excellent reasons. Everything from EKG machines to BP monitors to kitchens, CPAP machines, and the room TVs that help keep a patient's sanity (I should know!), all need to be powered. Not to mention the ventilators in the Covid wards. But off power to the hospital and a lot of people could die. Exterior lighting is very important too. Those signs in front of every hospital showing drivers how to get to the Emergency Department? Those are life-saving in an emergency.

  41. When looking at costing for limitations I try to figure out how much of the time it will affect the outcome of the attack. Here, I would say that the limitation is more powerful than your opponent buying penetrating on their 3d6 killing attack (on average). So that is a significant amount (22 points), but defenses always cost way less, so a value of half that (and only for the body, so actually a quarter or so) would be in the right range. Another way to figure is using the limited power chart. I think it is not affecting you more than half the time since you have other armor and i
