    Hero Games will be launching a fan-driven community content program on DriveThruRPG in about a month, similar to Dungeon Masters Guild and Storytellers Vault. It’s going to be called Hall of Champions, and it will allow you to publish your own work on DriveThru for profit under the banner of being a Hero Games product. (Though solely for commercial purposes on DriveThruRPG.) You’ll be allowed to publish using any version of the Hero System you like from 1st to 6th, including Champions Now. You will also be allowed to use both intellectual property that belongs to Hero Games, as well as the Champions Universe, which belongs to Cryptic Studios. The program will supply artwork and templates to work from to make the entire process as easy as possible. To being with, what I’m looking for are some initial fan contributions from you guys so that we have a certain number of products ready to go at launch. I’ve already received commitments from two of our third party publishers, but could use a bunch more from fans. There are (of course) significant rules governing the community content program, which I will share with you should you contact me. If you have work you would like to contribute, it needs only be in PDF form and have a JPEG cover image available. (This can simply be a copy of the front page.)     Originally published in 1989, we've converted high quality scans of the classic Champions: The Super Role Playing Game (4th edition) into a print-on-demand format on DriveThruRPG. They don't have the sharpest production quality when compared to a modern book, but they're completely legible and suitable for use by game masters and players alike.

And at this point an amazing *fifty* of you have contacted me about contributing work to it! I was surprised and overwhelmed by the positive response, which I thank you all for. However, to launch the program in a couple of weeks I need many of you who have expressed interest to turn in your work in advance.     Forty years ago, Champions: the Super Roleplaying Game was inspired by off-the-leash newsstand comics full of weird and headstrong creators. No one knew where a story was going, and what “heroic” meant changed constantly. That’s why it was the first role-playing game to hand you and a few friends a creative studio, rather than a constructed genre package.     With the manuscript finished, we're working away at getting some final artwork in so we can complete the layout and go to press. There have been some delays due to the serious injury and then illness of one of our interior artists, but we've gotten past that now and are planning out how the final book will look. Hopefully we will go to press in January 2020 and, of course, have the final PDF version to backers before then.

    New from Hall of Champions. The 1980's... with superheroes! The TASK FORCE: Season One Sourcebook details the beginning of the Dallas/Fort Worth area superhero team TASK FORCE and its heroes. This sourcebook contains the list of applicable stories from the main story archive, character sheets (for Champions 5th Edition Revised) for beginning versions of each character and villains unique to this setting, and fleshes out details concerning the broader Champions Universe which have not been previously covered.

    ELVENSONG STREET PRESS — 2017 YEAR IN REVIEW by Steven S. Long Greetings, folks, and happy 2018! The year seems to have gotten off to a rather frigid and snowy start here in the eastern U.S., so wherever you are, I hope you’re staying warm and safe. The same goes to all my friends elsewhere in the world — even in the bitter, post-apocalyptic wastelands of Canadia. ;-) My good friend and business partner, Jason Walters of Hero Games and IPR, asked me if I’d write up a year in review report for my little dba, Elvensong Street Press. There hasn’t been a whole lot going on, but I figured I could at least manage a brief summary of what I’ve done, and what’s to come. Unfortunately my productivity this year suffered a couple of severe blows. The first came from my top-to-bottom home renovation and remodeling project, which began in October 2016 and finished in the first week of August 2017. During that time I lived in an RV in my backyard (not exactly a condition conducive to creative work, at least not for me) and had to deal with a lot of construction-related issues. And then I had to move back into the house, which was a pretty big chore itself — it took me nearly three weeks just to get all my books on my extensive new bookshelves. (Lovely, lovely bookshelves....) Second, for over half of the year I suffered from poor health, which left me exhausted and unable to accomplish much of anything. I’m feeling better for now (though I’m definitely not out of the woods yet), so hopefully my health won’t cause me so many difficulties in 2018. Fingers crossed! Despite all those obstacles, I got some writing done here and there. My main focus, as it has been for the past six years and should be for at least another five or six more, is my massive Mythic Hero project — a comprehensive review of world mythology for gamers and writers in general, and HERO System gamers in particular. I didn’t get through quite as much as I hoped, but I completed chapters for the following mythoi: Hawaiian Canaanite Hittite Incan and South American I am currently at work on the chapters devoted to Celtic Mythology — the last major world mythos I have left to cover (though by no means the final one in the book; there are still plenty of minor mythologies to research and write up). I expect finishing it will take me half of the year, or more — but progress is progress, however you slice it. Other than that, I prepared two PDF products for the HERO System that have been on sale in the Hero Games Online Store, IPR, and sometimes elsewhere: —Gun Fu (an extensive list of gunfighting maneuvers, abilities, and tricks, organized into a system of “ranks” for easy learning); and —Insect Powers (to help you create a friendly neighborhood insect-themed superhero, a master of insect magics, or similar characters). I have plenty more of these small PDF products in the works; finishing them is just a question of getting a little time here and there, and which one I have interest in at any particular time. Some of them include: Hands Of The Mummy (a Pulp Hero murder mystery involving an archaeological expedition and its discoveries, set in and around the British Museum); MEDUSA (a group of supervillainesses for Superhero campaigns); Anti-Paladins (pre-generated character sheets for various anti-paladins, an ideal type of villain for Fantasy Hero campaigns); more expansions to the Superhero Gallery from Champions; and possibly a researched article on the Leopard Societies of Africa (aimed primarily at Pulp Hero gamers, but also useful for many other kinds of campaigns). Last, but not least, as time has allowed, I’ve slowly but steadily worked on The HERO System Advanced Player’s Guide III for Hero Games. It’s been quite a while since Hero published APG2, and in the intervening years I’ve accumulated hundreds of rules questions from gamers. It’s time to get all that material polished up and in print, and that’s what I’m doing. I also intend to include some optional rules for various other subjects that I’ve thought of or that gamers have requested of me, such as the concept of Long-Term STUN. (And as always, when the proper time comes I’ll post a “what do you want to see” thread so anyone who wants to can suggest an idea too.) So hopefully that means lots of fun stuff to work on and great products to release coming from Elvensong Street Press in 2018.     In the sixties the United States Government approved the funding for two new agencies due to the rise of costumed criminals. The first agency (Special Target Reconnaissance, Investigation, Policing, Espionage Service; aka STRIPES) was placed under the authority of the Department of Justice. While the second (Special Target Attack Response Squads; aka STARS) was placed under the supervision of the Department of Defense.     Hello everyone! With the release of our final version of the PDF, several Kickstarter backers have noticed some issues: in particular that there were some problems with the charts for the history of superhero roleplaying games and comic books. I have frozen the print process while Ruben corrects these issues. Additionally, one of them noticed the .mobi file does not display the title or author on their Kindle properly. It says the the wrong ISBN number and Unknown Author. We will fix that as well. Additionally, several asked if we could set up a forum for discussion of Champions Now on the Hero Games website forums. I have done so; it is now a subforum you can access under the Champions forum in the website HERE. Once Champions Now has printed and all backers copies have been shipped, we will be making the book available in physical form through the Hero Games website, RPG distributor Indie Press Revolution, and on Amazon. It will also be available electronically through DriveThruRPG and e23.     S.I.D.s is short for Super-powered Individual Database. This is a database that various government agencies are starting to use to keep track of all the various villains and heroes. Over the last few years the number of super-powered individuals has skyrocketed. It has become a full time job to try and keep track of them as well as update information about the, that is the purpose of this database. The database is designed to give law enforcement as much information as possible on supervillains or superheroes they may need to call for help. This is a series of small products that will introduce new villains and heroes for you campaign. This installment will re-introduce Denier & Co: An organization of 5 individuals all determined to become rich and powerful. They all follow the vengeful and somewhat unstable Denier. They also have connections with the Ali Baba Thieves, a mercenary group. This group was originally introduced in the adventure School Holiday by legendary RPG writer Aaron Allston. Includes Hero Designer files & printable cardboard miniatures.

    There have been some questions lately about what relationship Hero Games has with Heroic Comics, both historically and in terms of their current projects. The simple answer to the later question is that DOJ Inc, the current owners of the Hero Games intellectual property, has never entered into an agreement with Heroic Comics, aren't currently working on any projects with them, have no active communication with them, and share no properties in common with them. In short, we have no relationship. Historically speaking, back in 1987 (when I was a senior in High School and Steve Long was just entering law school), Hero Games signed an agreement with Heroic Comics to publish a Champions comic book using certain specific characters from (I think) the third edition Champions Universe. These characters they do have the rights to: which is why they were not as I understand it in the forth edition or subsequent versions of the Champions Universe.     Goodbye Balabanto

    It is with great sadness that I tell you my friend and associate Michael Satran, known on the Hero Forums as Balabanto, passed away on the evening of October 28, 2017. Michael was a Hero System superfan, and the author of numerous zany supplements and settings for the Champions roleplaying game, including Journey to the Center of the Earth, King of the Mountain, War of Worldcraft, and Foxbat for President. He also tackled more serious and darker subjects in works such as Imaginary Friends, Unkindness, and Pretty Hate Machines. Though it is not widely known, for years Michael volunteered to help with the Indie Press Revolution booth at GenCon, stalwartly assisting us in the not-very-glamorous business of setting up, tearing down, inventorying products, helping with the marshaling yard, and generally doing what he could to help the RPG small press. He was a sincere, generous, and kind man, always eager to help a friend in need. I will miss him greatly. Amicus Aeternum Vale. - Jason Walters, Publisher
