Starlord got a reaction from Michael Hopcroft in A Little Good News
My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in April from a mammogram that was (scarily) pushed back a year due to Covid. She has been undergoing chemo since then up until last month. It decreased the tumor about 33%. She decided to go with a lumpectomy. They managed to remove the tumor and the really good news is that they biopsied her lymph node and the cancer did not spread. She will still have to undergo targeted radiation for another month and obviously have regular monitoring for the next several years, but long story short she is now cancer-free.

Starlord reacted to zslane in Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase Three and BEYOOOOONND
It has to be endlessly embarrassing to WB/DC brass that Marvel can turn a sentient tree--who can only say three words--into a household name, while they in turn can't even keep Clark Kent as Superman beyond three movies. Say what you will about the dubiousness of Marvel's insistence on a consistent look and feel to their movies, they have done a remarkable job of introducing a vast array of colorful characters over the course of ten years, drawing deeply from their comic book roster. Their willingness to try out new characters, even when there's a real chance they won't succeed wildly, shows the difference in creative commitment between Marvel and DC. I'd rather see a studio try something like The Eternals, and achieve less than towering success with it, than see them tediously reboot Iron Man with a new actor and new setting every few years.

Starlord reacted to Cancer in The cranky thread
Pull up a chair, folks. Very heavy dose of irony.
... so recently in a different thread I mentioned being stressed by teaching courses, and other stuff. There's the other stuff. It's going to last a few months.

Starlord reacted to Hermit in The cranky thread
I got a text about a half hour ago Dad is at the ER. He was having double vision, said his head hurt, and also threw up. He almost passed out. He's getting a brain CT done. He's in good medical hands, but thoughts, prayers, good vibration, positive energy or even just a well wish deeply appreciated.

Well, you wouldn't actually see the true Doom. He would send a Doom-bot. Doom would never sully his hands with us mere mortals.

Starlord reacted to Lord Liaden in Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase Three and BEYOOOOONND
Christopher and Grailknight, I think that's a reasonable viewpoint. But it's clear that Marvel set out to make a "wire-fu" style martial arts movie, because that's a popular and widely known genre for today's audience, and that style lends itself to superhuman feats. Shang-Chi is the most suitable vehicle for that purpose, especially since Iron Fist sputtered out on television. Plus, Marvel just addressed the James Bond analogy with Black Widow.
