Re: Cold -based Character "Winter" - Natasha Khrushchev - Whose is she?
I've posted that short story to our campaign website: http://home.earthlink.net/~jeffspur/id52.html
Feel free to browse around.

For my birthday this year I decided to do something I've dreamed of for well over a decade: Get a professional rendering of my character Zl'f by Storn Cook. This is the 20th year I've played Zl'f and also the 20th year for our MidGuard campaign; she's the only player character who has been in play that entire time. (She's also has 164 XP now).
The result exceeded my wildest expectations:

I wanted a Graeco-Roman mythological motif to go with the name and I thought the short Greek style tunic (based on a picture of the Greek goddess Artemis) and lace-up footwear achieved the desired effect perfectly. It's something I could envision a wood nymph or sylph wearing in a sylvan forest in ancient Greece, right down to the subtle floral decorations on the hem and neckline.
Thank you, Storn, and thanks to Death Tribble for helping me get in contact with Storn.

Re: Hero Designer 3 die roller ported to Android?
Maybe, but that's really beside the point. I already have a die roller. I just greatly preferred the one in HDv3 and would like one that provides the same appearance and functionality for my Fire. I was hoping either the original author or one of our other programmers here would try porting it to Android - an app for which I and I suspect many others would be willing to pay $3 or even $5 for.Just had a coworker pull up the die roller (http://www.herocentral.net/dieRoller.htm) on their Kindle Fire (using the default Silk browser) and it works just fine. You're either not going to the HC die roller, have something seriously off in your configuration/settings, or are not entering normal/accepted strings for the die roller.

Re: Hero Designer 3 die roller ported to Android?
Dan, I checked the browser setting and JavaScript is enabled but it still won't work. It may be something to do with Amazon's dragging their feet to integrate the Kindle Fire with the web because they want everyone in their "walled garden." As of the moment they won't even allow alternate browsers but only their own Silk browser. It works and has been verified under iOS (iPhone, iPad) and Android. If it is not working in your browser on your Kindle Fire, then you will want to check your browser settings -- you likely have JavaScript disabled. Note again that JavaScript is not Java -- JavaScript is simply a scripting language that the browser can use for dynamic content. Many current sites will use a combination of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML to create dynamic/interactive displays -- having JavaScript disabled in your browser will prevent you from using a large number of sites (like this one).

Re: Hero Designer 3 die roller ported to Android?
It doesn't work, Dan. I tried it repeatedly. It's not Java, it's JavaScript. Huge difference.Your tablet will run it just fine. Go to the URL I gave above within your tablet's browser.
You don't even need to be online to use the roller, just save the page (or have it open in your tablet's browser) -- all calculations are done in the browser and do not go up to the server.
Besides, I have a tolerable die roller. I just want one with all the bells and whistles for Android to run on my Kindle Fire.

Re: Hero Designer 3 die roller ported to Android?
That's because the underlying code used for the roller was taken from the dieRoller in use on HC (linked earlier' date=' though the version used in HD was taken from the Java code that runs server-side on HC in processing rolls in posts rather than the die roller page) -- BC Holmes had wrapped the UI around it.[/quote']Interesting.In any case, I can't use it as is because my tablet won't run Java. That's why I'm hoping for an Android port.

Re: Hero Designer 3 die roller ported to Android?
You just add a "k" after the number of damage dice.
It's not particularly elegant, but it is simple.

No idea how to post or store pics here. You should have about 20 MiB storage on thsi side. Unless that is all take for Heromachine Pictures. -
Re: Hero Designer 3 die roller ported to Android?
Let's see if this works:But bring in the "n" and the idiocy might work in your favor, for the programmer might rather just throw a loop around things than to work out the proper "randInt" formula. But yeah, I'd favor a list of individual results, too. Not just for checking on the algorithms of the programmer, but mainly for childish verisimilitude ("Yeah, two sixes!").I can always recommend imgur, just drag something onto the web page, start upload and then copy/paste the BBCode part.

Re: Hero Designer 3 die roller ported to Android?
I can take a screenshot from my laptop but I've got no way to post it. If you like I can take one and e-mail to you.I think "randInt(16)+3" is easier and shorter, than calling randInt(6)+1 three times.I would be interested in a screenshot too.

Re: Hero Designer 3 die roller ported to Android?
It's located under "Tools" in HDv3 - and again, it doesn't work at all if you are using Java 7.I can't even see a dice roller in HD3, but maybe I have the wrong version. I do recall seeing it before but I have not used computer aids to role playing much in the past.We could add in all sorts of stuff like character phase sequencers, OCV v DCV calculators and Damage Taken Calculators...but I'd settle for a decent little app that just did xd6+y and calculated Body and stun for killing and normal attacks and sorted rolls for explosion damage. That would be cushty.
Looking at HDv3 info, BC Holmes was the programmer for the die roller.

Re: Hero Designer 3 die roller ported to Android?
Ht locations would be handy as well. What I think you would want from a Hero Dice app are:1. a 3d6 button for skill and combat rolls
2. an Xd6 button that shows the rolls in size order for explosions and calculates both stun and Body totals for normal and killing attacks
3. an option to add 1/2d6 or +1 (or -1, I suppose) and have it calculate body correctly.
That is probably about it for essentials. It would be nice to have some sort of roll history, and it would be nice to have several pre-set buttons that you could allocate particular rolls to.
I'd avoid any actual representations of dice as that is not really helpful and we often roll loads of them.
I suggest people look at the HD3 version as a starting point. Note: It will not work with Java 7; you will have to roll back to version 6.

Re: Hero Designer 3 die roller ported to Android?
I know there are other die rollers out there - half our group uses Dice Bag - but mostly I'm hoping somebody might port the one in HD3 over to Android so we can use the real McCoy. Everyone in my group and probably thousands of other Hero players out there would pay $$$ to have it on our phones or tablets.
-
While I've tried numerous die rolling programs in my nearly 35 years of RPG's, none have been as great as the one included in HD3. Nothing even comes close. I don't recall who the author of that program was although I'm pretty sure it was not Dan Simon.
I was wondering if that unnamed genius might consider reworking it as an Android app? I would happily pay several dollars to be able to run that on my Kindle; and every member of my gaming group with a smart phone concurs.

Re: Effect of Flash on Sense of Touch
Thanks, that's at least a starting point. Do you know if a similar rule exists for 5ER?6E2 9 has the follwign rules:-3 or more to DEX base Skills, OCV in HTH (and propably firearms as well), and "any other activities requiring dexterous action".
The character still feels pain, but the GM might apply the mystery damage rule.
-
I was sure I remembered 5ER rules for what the in-game effect of Flashing the sense of Touch, but my search-fu is weak. Some sort of combat penalty from "numbness" seems logical, but does anyone know where and what the official rule is?

Re: How to build the appearance age in 5ER
That's good.

Re: Cold -based Character "Winter" - Natasha Khrushchev - Whose is she?
Thanks.I believe this is her Treb...Doesn't look like Psylint has posted here in a couple of years. I want to post that short story on our Champions campaign's website; and possibly work her into a scenario I've got in mind. I'll try sending him an e-mail to see if he'd mind.
-
Several years ago another member and I collaborated on a short story involving his Russian character "Winter" (Natasha Khrushchev) and my own Russian character Zl'f. I'd like to use the character in a scenario and give Winter's creator due credit but I cannot recall who that might be.
If Winter's creator sees this or if someone else here remembers who it might be please let me know.

Re: How to build the appearance age in 5ER
The same person; needing to look older. Ordinary people start showing signs of age of aging by their mid-20's; a 30 year old who looks 15 is going to raise eyebrows and perhaps get unwanted questions asked.Other have asked that already, but I ask again:How similar are his old and young form? Would it be obvious that he is just an older "hismelf"? Or would it be a two totally different persons?
-
Re: How to build the appearance age in 5ER
What does looking older do for her? What does looking younger do for her? In game terms. Answer those questions' date=' and you're 99% of the way there.[/quote']It's for an immortal character who needs to disguise that fact in Secret ID but needs to look like the youthful superhero when in action. The character already has Acting and Disguise but needs something than can be switched on and off at a moment's notice. That's why I was thinking of a Limited variant of Instant Change. -
I would like to have a character be able to look older than she actually is (without actually being less capable) and change back to her normally youthful appearance at will. The ability would be inherent, not using makeup or other external materials. I'm thinking a limited variation of Instant Change (Cosmetic Transform) is the obvious way to do this but I wondered if anyone had other ways to do this..

Re: Olympic sprinter
So you're saying an extra +1 SPD and +4" of Running would do it? That seems fairly reasonable. That's only 18 CP; well within the margins for a Talented Normal. An Olympic Sprinter has bought up their running movement. Probably close to, if not near human maximum. (10")At Speed 2, an Olympic class sprinter can hit 80 meters in 12 seconds. At speed 3 they can hit 120 meters in 12 seconds. Broken down segment by segment, that's exactly 100 meters in 10 seconds/segments.
I just thought characters couldn't go faster than SPD 2 for non-combat activities? So if, say, a martial artist has a 6 SPD he can use those extra Phases to outrun the Olympic Gold Medallist by a considerable margin without even buying up his Running?
Sweet.

Might as well post her current hdc file too. The last hdc of her I posted here was v434 (79 XP ago); posted in September of 2007. My character records system uses Experience Points earned plus Base 350 points, not total points spent. So she currently has 9 unspent XP.
