  2. Re: Bolos in Hero yeah the Bolas right sorry me and my poor spelling
  3. Hey anyone out there know where a write up for a Bolo is. I've got most all the 5th ed books, but can't find a write up for Bolos. I know I can prob just make some, but though I'd check here to see if anyone knows.

  5. Re: Now that I've seen Reality Storm Yeah 8d6 with an average Stun of 28 per hit, and let's say he's fighting someone with the average Def like in the Champions (20) that's 8 stun per hit. OK 9 Hits in a Turn and we're looking at 72 Stun... not bad. Except that Slipstream cant dish that out 9 times... he can only do this in 4 times (12, 2, 3, 4) before he's out of End and at best he's only got either a 9 OCV or a 9 DCV or some combo adding up to that. So not very un-hittable. If he takes a hit (Very Likely) from the once again Average Champions attack (12d6) that's 42 Stun, and 31 past his def... he's KOed in 1 hit. Sounds very Combat Ineffective. Oh and Alice would THUMP Slipstream. Sorry didn't mean to compare him only to Sentinel, I thought I said Flash. But I will say this again. In a Comic where the writer controls everything... having that varied a power level is fine, only when the writer wants it that way, do opponents of the 2 ends of the spectrum face each other... and then it still ends up the way the writer wants it. In a RPG however the GM, while having a large amount of control, doesn't have absolute control, and in most instances you will wind up with the powerful ones SLAUGHTERING the lower powered characters. I think that it's not the # of d6 you throw or your total PD/ED that defines the character, or distinguishes him/her from the other PCs. It's HOW you do it... isn't this Hero?? Isn't this the Game where SFX rules Supreme. So if Blastar does 6d6 NND, and so does Thrash does that make them the same chars? Boring Chars? I say not... Blastar's is described as a Bio-blast disrupting the victim’s nervous system... Thrash's is the classic Brick Trick: Finger Thump... Thumping an unarmored sap in the melon to knock them into oblivion. Anyway I think we've gotten off on a tangent here. I wasn't faulting the characters or their concepts. I was trying to figure out how these 'Iconic' Characters, whom I suppose are quite powerful in the ECU can be so wimpy in the CU. I suspect it's the Conversion system, but I have no way of knowing because I don't play SAS (Tri-Stat). And if it was the conversion system… I would like to think that some care would be taken to represent the characters as accurately as possible. (Although I can see why that couldn’t be done, it would invalidate the Conversion system if it wasn’t used 100% on the characters in the book.) So is there anyone out there that could tell me if these chars from SAS are getting yanked by the short hairs, or is this really how they are?
  6. Re: Now that I've seen Reality Storm Well in a Comic Book a mix of Powerlevels can work just fine, but in an RPG it's not that easy. If you have someone in the team that can dish 22d6 then there should be a villian that can take that hit. If so then the 8d6 guy is totaly ineffective most of the time... granted special powers can come into play at anytime. How does Batman hang w/GL & Supes... Because he's the smartest one there.. he's got a ZILLION points too... vehicles, Gadgets TONS of skills, Combat skill levels and so on... But my point wasn't weather or not the Guard were in genre but why some of them came out so totaly bad when converted... Are those characters really that outclased by the others in the Guard? Or was it a matter of Mechanics that got lost in the conversion. And remember my example was of Slipstream (a Flash like char) who couldn't stand up to Impulse (Kid Flash now) let alone the Flash. I guess what I'm getting at is that without knowing the SAS system, it looks like the other chars in the Guard are just non-combat support for Red Phx & Sentinel.
  7. Re: Now that I've seen Reality Storm OK I just skimmed over the Reality Storm, paying most of the attention to the write ups for the SAS chars in Hero. Now I'll preface this with I've never played SAS or the Tri-Stat system, so I'm just coming at this from a Herophile POV. Looking at the characters I see an odd mish-mosh of power levels on the Guard. While Caliburn is interesting, he is extremely poorly built for a 400+pt char, and the same goes for SlipStream & Mother Raven. It seems rather odd to have these characters on the same team w/Sentinel & Red Phoenix (900 & 600pts respectively) Not to mention the Villains. I mean How can Slimstream even HOPE to survive a battle that is going to be challenging to Sentinel? He’s got an 11 PD/ED, and the only way he could effectively deal some Damage would be to Move By/Through on someone. And with his PD I wouldn’t recommend the Move through. Not to mention that his full movement cost him 9 End, a Strike 2 End, for a total of 11 & with a 9 SPD that’s 99 End a Turn (or lots of Recoveries @ reduced DCV Not that his DCV is any good for a Speedster anyway)… he’s only got 36 End. Then to be the Team Speedster and only have a 20 DEX (24 w/LR) he’s slower than Red Phx, & Sentinel too (not counting the LR). It would seem that Red Phx & Sentinel do all the heavy lifting in this team, while the others hope the villains don’t notice them. Anyway I think you get my point… and I’m not even getting into Kreutzitter. The only thing I can think of to pin this on is the Conversion. I think that the SAS chars in Hero stats are def getting the short end of the stick here. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe someone familiar with the SAS system can shed some light on this for me.
  8. Re: Killing Charachters/Villians in your games. Do you do it? Normally I don't like to kill PCs. If a Hero Dies (PC or NPC) it has to mean something. Oddly enough in the last few months of our Campaign a few of the Heroes have died, and at least 3 Villains. 1) Stalker of the Asesinos (Totally rebuilt for 5th Ed): Died may not be the right word - Destroyed is better for this guy. After nearly defeating the Heroes he was taken down by the Team Leader/Archer with a few Ironwood Shafts to the heart. Later the body of the Vampire was handed over to the Church who destroyed it. 2) NPC Hero Blue Fury: She was 'killed' in a major plot device I started off the year with Involving Prof Muerte (Yeah he's still around in my game). The implications of her death are still being felt. She was the love interest of one of the PCs & was killed on their Wedding Day (Yeah I'm an Evil GM) 3) Tombstone Kid, also of the Asesinos (Also Rebuilt for 5th Ed): Destroyed also fits this one, since he was also already dead. He had move on from the defeat of Stalker and joined up with Prof Muerte, and was there when Blue Fury was killed. For his troubles he was cut to shreds by one of the heroes using another Villain’s sword. (The PC is in the middle of the repercussions stemming from that) 4) PC Hero Tempest: While hunting Down Prof Muete who was responsible for killing Blue Fury, the Team encountered a Villain group called Anarchy. During this massively confusing Battle (neat how it works that way) Tempest was laid out by a pretty mean RKA... and he was the team's healer. Anyway with all the confusion Tempest being already @ Neg Body bleed out under some rubble, while the rest of the team was hanging on by the skin of their teeth. 5) Another PC, Chrysalis: She was captured by members of IHA's militant Arm CHESS and was killed. She was a shapeshifting Mutant... This was all done so that a Player new to the group could continue to play the Char with the same powerset, but dif personality (the Orig Chrysalis was not too friendly) So there was some body switching done, and the Orig Chrysalis died in the body of someone else, who in turn is now a member of the Team in the Mutant Shapeshifter's body 6) Last is Infierno: A Cuban Fire/heat projector. He was killed in an underground Arena (a Fight club type affair for Paranormals) another Villain killed him, before the Heroes could stop her. I try to keep the Death toll low... I don't think it's all that Heroic for the Heroes to kill the villains, and neither do my Players. But from time to time certain events happen that make it unavoidable. As for the death of Tempest, the Gaming group had grown quite a lot from its original size, and I needed some help running all the badguys. It just so happened that Tempest's Player had volunteered to help me out for a bit after the current story arc... and what do you know he got killed. Had he not been stepping aside for a bit I'm sure I'd have GM'd the character out of the situation that took his life. In any event once he's ready to go back to playing... I'm sure I can find a way to bring Tempest back to life.
  9. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange For some reason it's not letting me upload the files I want. 10. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange Hello all I nave finally put together an apropriately sized (I hope) version of my 3-D Terrain of the Movie theater I built and showed here in this thread. I had a few E-mails asking for it, so I thought I'd make it so... Enjoy! PS: Soon pics of more Hero Clix conversions I've done OK Couldn't get the zip file to upload, so here are the individual files
  11. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange I really didn't mean to not mention this last night when I was posting these Pics of the re-painted Minis... my Co-GM Eric does 99% of the painting of these minis... I do most of the re-working if need be, but Eric's the one responsible for the great paint jobs. Thanx Eric

  20. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange OK here are a few of the Hero Clix re-painted to be Characters in our Campaign. Aftershock - Mutant w/Sismic Powers, and a very Dense body structure. His Criminal past has made him the team's resedent link to the streets. Original Hero Clix used: Blizard
  21. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange This was an Inside battle that I used 3D terrain for. It was an underground/underwater base occupied by Prof Muerte (yeah I kept him around for 5the ed :-) ) It was a sort of 'Moon-room' like in the Abyss where the mini-subs could be lowered into the water, so the indentation that looks like water IS... and it was just above Freezing (they were after all under the Arctic cap)
  22. Re: Game Maps and Counters Exchange This is Great, I'm bookmarking pages & Links so I can come back latter. I've been doign a bit of carboard mini's myself up until a few weeks ago, when I got Brave and started making things a bit more 3d... 1st I started with a GREAT set of Cardboard terrian from the guys @ MicroTactix.com I bought their "Dirt Cheap City Scape" set & later their "Starship" Interiors set. But from those 2 sets + the Free Downloads I was able to make quite a few 'Custom' buildings... It's really not all that hard, all you need is a sturdy printer, Ink and some 65lb cardstock. Next I got even Braver and I started in on all the 'Hero Clix' I had laying around, and with a little sculpy, Paint and lots of patients we've come up with some reasonable facsimilies of our characters. 1st I'll post some of the Buildings: These were all taken from a battle the team recently had vs Mechanon in a downtown area. Unfortunatly I can't give ya the files for the Scyscrapers (but you can get em Dirt cheap @ http://www.Microtactix.com) but I can get anyone who wants my own custom buildings I made myself, just e-mails me and we'll see about gettign them to you (they are in Photoshop file format, as I don't have Acrobat to make the pdf files)
  23. Re: Your Gaming Group's Jargon We have a few in my gaming group, but suddenly all but one had fled from my mind. Pitbull - It's used by the GM (me) in times where the Players have latched on to some erroneous factoid, as if it's the most crucial element of the entire plot, but in reality is nothing. We all know the dilemma, As GM you try to gently steer them away, so that the rest of the night isn't lost on a tangent... You try not to break character, you attempt to steer them away from the dead end, but the more you try the more the PCs BELIEVE they have found the Key to unraveling your entire universe... So after a few lost gaming sessions, I invented PITBULL! And now oddly enough it's never been used for it's intended purpose... Now it's used rather as a side joke. Said when one of the Players brings up a plot thread they haven’t learned the details of. IE.. "But How did he escape... he should have died in that Wreck?" "PITBULL!" Said un unison by 2 or more other PCs
  24. Re: Initiative, DEX, and Movement. We use Scenario 2, But We also use house rules dividing Phases into half Phases. Meaning this: Characters get a Half Phase action, then after everyong who has a move has gone, then the last half phase takes place. I felt that doing this helps to reduce the occurance of the Dex War. That way the Brick of the group still had a chance to do something if a faster character were to say run up, hit and run away (Like a passing Strike) or gave a distinct tactical disadvantage to char that wanted to move closer (say to avoid Rang pen) before shooting. Yes it's caused the combat to become a bit more lengthy, but it's also added alot more tactics to the Players (and NPCs) moves/actions. ie: "I want to move closer, but then he may get that shot off before I do". or "I'll just do a move-by, and then be 4 hexes away and out of his reach by the time he can do anything... Oh wait hes just over a half move away... Darn he'll be able to react, and could grab me." Like I said this is a house rule, and YMMV. WC
