  1. Re: name for a Shaman type character? Here is a glossary, in case it proves useful
  2. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Then again, my apologies. This is just a vicious circle that I'd just as soon break. Apologies to all. I'll withhold public opinions from now on.

  5. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. And that was just stupid and beneath someone for whom I usually have a great deal of respect (or so I thought). Don't confuse an incorrect assumption on my part for overzealousness. To paraphrase RPMiller, if you want to be like everyone else on the 'net and throw gasoline on a fire, be my guest. According to the two posters above, it's okay for Storn to be critiqued, but I can't offer my opinion on the critique without being labeled a rabid fanboy (by implication, at least). Thanks for the hypocrisy, boyos, and thanks for giving me a chance to apologize.
  6. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I like the picture just fine, myself. IMO a minor critique or question of style here and there isn't unexpected or unwarranted. A second lengthier follow-up post that essentially shows errors, mistakes, the critic's expert knowledge or simply reinforces the original unasked for critique, even after that critique has been addressed, is arrogant and rude. But that could just be me.
  7. Re: Need a seventh character Teleporting speedster-like character with both short- and long-range TP abilities was the first thing that came to mind. A speedster, a metamorph (shape-changer or size changer) or a mentalist would add more depth to the team, but they're not needed. Think more of special effects than archetypes: maybe a darkness character or someone who can control senses, a pure brick or maybe a "living lightning" sort of character. In all honesty, your team is already mixing up basic archetypes, so I don't see any reason to try and "cover all the bases". Just make a character you like and have fun with it.

  9. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Losing one's job is scary enough, but on top of that I might just up and change careers. From the IT industry to bartending. It might take a while, and it's gonna be hard, but I just can't see me being a corporate monkey anymore.
  10. Re: Musings on Random Musings Better luck next time, man. I thought it sounded good.
  11. Re: Needing some help with the numbers. First, think of an in-game reason why the suit would need to be toned down. Perhaps, not having sufficient means or ability to keep the suit in prime condition, certain sacrifices have had to be made. For example, maybe the suit isn't as strong as it used to be because certain components used to enhance strength were cannibalized in order to preserve the armor's overall integrity. Now, bearing in mind that I have no information on Tekkaman other than what he looks like (never having seen the show), it appears to me that Tekkaman would probably best be bought as a vehicle; i.e., it's essentially a mecha. The Ultimate Vehicle has excellent ideas for building mecha. I'd recommend checking that out. G'luck.
  12. Re: PRIMUS or UNTIL In the past (i.e. the early and mid 90s when I was playing FtF games heavily) PRIMUS was the preferred agency of all our GMs. These days I play PBEMs exclusively. I use UNTIL because I like the idea of an international force similar to SHIELD. However, in a game I'm currently (trying to keep) running, I intend to bring in PRIMUS as a fledgling group. They'll be the government's response to an anti-meta push by the general public (registration bill defeated, but we're going to make a national force to deal with metas specifically; that sort of thing). UNTIL will be developed more, as well, but will take a back seat to PRIMUS within the US.
  13. Re: Musings on Random Musings They haven't cleared out the warehouse of all the "actress" awards yet. Maybe next year.
  14. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Tonight would be a really good night to have my girlfriend here. I could use the cuddle.

  17. Re: Attacking Diviners I read a book a while back by Mike Resnick, entitled Oracle (actually a series), in which the subject of the story was a girl who could foresee the future. As she grew her ability and accuracy grew, as well, to the point where she could control certain events. How? Simply by causing a minor shift in present reality so that the subsequent chain of events would cause whatever she wanted to happen, to happen. For example: she once simply lifted her hand for five seconds, then put it down. The result was something like avoiding an interplanetary war months away. That doesn't help much, but it gives a good basis for power structure. What if Diviners could not only divine the future, but somehow control future events by seeing what needed to happen prior? Starting a chain reaction would give them the appropriate response later on in life. That doesn't answer the question, of course, but it does lead into my suggestion: Luck powers. Per the USPD, the Luck-based power allows all manner of strange things to occur in the player's favor. By making these powers part of the Diviner arcana and adding the appropriate limitations and such you could easily turn them into usable combat spells. The Luck power "Environmental Mayhem" could be built as follows: 23 Enviromental Mayham: Energy Blast 8d6, Side Effects (miscellaneous minor damage to the environment, automatically occurs; +0), Only Does Knockdown (+0), Indirect (Any origin, any direction; +3/4) (70 Active Points); OIF (Enviroment Of Opportunity) (-1/2), Gestures (throughout casting) (Requires both hands; -1/2), Requires A Divination Roll (-1/2), Limited Range (25") (-1/4), Incantations (-1/4) Just an idea to run with if you so desire.
  18. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Some random track from the "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack(s). All three on random.
  19. Re: THRILLING HERO TALES — A Campaign Chronicle Pfft. You could've called... Hrmph. A good read as always, in spite of me not being one of the players. I must say, though, that this reminds me of a miniseries featuring The Atom about 20 years back. I think it was called "Sword of the Atom", and Gil Kane was the writer then. I wish I could find it, but if you weren't drawing on that for inspiration...well, it's scary-close in a lot of ways.
  20. Re: NOBLES, KNIGHTS, AND NECROMANCERS -- What Do *You* Want To See? Ooh! Ooh! I know! I know! A really cool but really really Bad adventuring company. The antithesis of the standard adventuring group. A bunch of ruthless bastards with questionable goals and even more questionable tactics. One could be a fallen knight/paladin/whatever, a priest of an evil god, an amoral bard, etc. They could be the fantasy equivelant of Eurostar, or you could make them not-so-evil-but-still-annoying like GRAB. Yeah. Yeah, I like it... Okay, back to what you were saying.
  21. Re: NOBLES, KNIGHTS, AND NECROMANCERS -- What Do *You* Want To See? I had a decent little list going but then scrolled down further to see QM's list. So, um, yeah, what he (and others) said.

  23. Re: WWYCD: "Dude, you stole my shtick!" Heh...maybe. Right up until they meet, anyway. "What's yer name?" "Ballistic." "Grr." "Well, what's your name?" "Ballistic." "Grr." :bmk:
