  1. Re: The cranky thread Cripes, that quote's been used in several different movies over the years. I suppose it could be better known in some than others.
  2. Re: The cranky thread It's a dog-eat-dog world out there and I'm wearin' Milk Bone underwear.

  4. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Tim Powers, right? I think I have that book somewhere. I think I have a couple of his books, actually. If I remember correctly I liked 'em. I'll have to dig 'em out again. Personally, I'm on the first book of Michael Stackpole's newest series. The book is Secret Atlas, and it's solid fantasy that follows a family of cartographers in their various trials and tribulations. Here's the thing: the patriarch is locked up by the prince cuz he's too valuable to let loose. The oldest son is off in the barren wastes hunting for the source of wild magic, his twin sister is caught up with a shady noble, and the youngest son is off to the edge of the known world to see what else is out there. I recommend his stuff to anyone who enjoys a good solid fantasy read.

  6. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread This was the first full year of home ownership. In the past 5-6 years I don't think I've paid more than $500 one year, and I usually get back $800-1000. My tax prepper says I'm about right in terms of withholding. However, I'll be adjusting my withholding to accomodate the shift in taxable income cuz of the interest paid on the mortgage. It was a nice and unexpected bonus to get back several grand.
  7. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Hmm...so this is the longest running thread EVER. Not bad.
  8. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread Happiness is a tax return equivalent to over a month's pay.
  9. Re: The cranky thread Some days it's not worth owning a Rott, especially one with a tail. Those days usually involve getting woken up after 4-5 hours of sleep, sodas knocked off tables, general whining, and some seriously horrendous effluvium...all on the part of the dog.
  10. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Rammstein. I don't know the title cuz I don't speak German, the cd's on random, and I'm too damn lazy to go over and check which track it is. It's on the same cd as Du Hast, though. But man, do I feel like killin' someone right now. Or at least driving really really fast. Edit: I think it's Sensucht (sp?)
  11. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? And the day's work began with Rollin' (The Ballad of Big & Rich) by Big'n'Rich.

  16. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Epic by Faith No More.
  17. Re: Musings on Random Musings It amused me that throughout the show I kept focusing on the fact that he was again holding his microphone like he does when he sings. That is to say, wrapped several times around three fingers of his left hand (middle-to-little), and then he stands "in your face" style, one leg slightly back like he's ready for whatever you've got and/or is ready to bring it to ya. And then he talks about squirrels on the bannister or vomiting on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Good stuff. I'm glad I recorded it so I can watch it again later.
  18. Re: A Thread for Random Musings "Henry Rollins Live in NYC" on the Independent Film Channel. No music. Just two hours of sometimes-comedic-sometimes-pointless-sometimes-political-always-insightful rantings by one of the most eloquent and intelligent angry bastards we've ever produced. I'm still mulling...
  19. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Big buckin' chicken...I can't get that bedamned song outta my head.
  20. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Blue Sky Mine (the Diesel remix) by Midnight Oil.
  21. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Black Friday - Steely Dan

  23. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread The old stand by cliche has been realized. I found $20 in the pocket of an old flannel I haven't worn all winter (cuz it was 'lost' behind a suitcase). Man, that just makes the day seem brighter.
  24. Re: Musings on Random Musings "Common People" is the name of the song on the album "Has Been", a (mostly) spoken word album by William Shatner, with much collaboration by Ben Folds (of 'Ben Folds Five' fame). Guest artists include Ben Folds (duh), Aimee Mann (former of Til Tuesday, now righteous solo act in her own right), Henry Rollins (former of Black Flag, and a righteous solo act and lyricist), country artist Brad Paisley, guitarist extraordinaire Adrian Belew (player with notables such as Talking Heads, King Crimson, Frank Zappa and David Bowie), Joe Jackson (not a big fan but I like his old stuff) and...um...a couple of others. For a spoken word album--and for William Shatner--it's pretty good stuff.
  25. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Kinda sorta on topic, Storn, how much do you charge for a vehicle or building? Same as a figure or do other factors enter into it?
