  1. Re: Super pitcher

FYI, don't forget CSLs with throwing things, PSLs vs. range or (rarely) even a Find Weakness roll (for being able to put the ball right where they want it).

Also, while I agree a thrown object wouldn't exceed strength amounts, an extra damage class or two specifically attached to thrown objects might not be out of line to represent his strength and skill specifically in regards to a pitch.

A couple of years ago one of our Help Desk ladies--a fairly attractive blonde with a balcony you could read Shakespeare off of--had a stack of those extra large rubber bands on her desk. We were in a playful mood that day and had been randomly shooting the little green rubber bands at each other. She's not normally a playful type, but got into the spirit of things. She was wearing a plunging neckline at the time.

She called me over and said, "You want to try these?"

My reply was something like, "Wow, those are some big ones."

It took us both a couple of seconds to figure out why everyone else was laughing so hard.

My girl doesn't normally like law enforcement-related films due to the fact that she's a sheriff and hates seeing how they totally screw with procedure and such. That being said she does enjoy the crime/thriller type of stories (she's a huge fan of the Hannibal movies, frex). Hopefully she'll focus more on the "tense drama" aspect of the movie and not the "tough detective" part.

How 'bout...um...three brother gods, each with their own aspect (smith, sage and judge, or whatever), and have each of the brothers be married to one aspect of the Triple Goddess. She moves from house to house (i.e. her representative stars/moons/whatever move across the night sky) as her aspects ascend and descend.

Okay, yeah, it needs work but that was just off the top of my head.

  5. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it...

I'm just over 1/2-way reading On Stranger Tides.

All I have to say is "Wow." It's a pity this book is out of print and so hard to find... as I'd love a copy for my own.

Tim Powers, right? I think I have that book somewhere. I think I have a couple of his books, actually. If I remember correctly I liked 'em. I'll have to dig 'em out again.

Personally, I'm on the first book of Michael Stackpole's newest series. The book is Secret Atlas, and it's solid fantasy that follows a family of cartographers in their various trials and tribulations. Here's the thing: the patriarch is locked up by the prince cuz he's too valuable to let loose. The oldest son is off in the barren wastes hunting for the source of wild magic, his twin sister is caught up with a shady noble, and the youngest son is off to the edge of the known world to see what else is out there.

I recommend his stuff to anyone who enjoys a good solid fantasy read.

  6. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread

This was the first full year of home ownership. In the past 5-6 years I don't think I've paid more than $500 one year, and I usually get back $800-1000. My tax prepper says I'm about right in terms of withholding. However, I'll be adjusting my withholding to accomodate the shift in taxable income cuz of the interest paid on the mortgage. It was a nice and unexpected bonus to get back several grand.
