  1. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

From the Supervillain game, primarily back and forth whackiness between the players

"Here's a villain concept: Schrodinger's Catgirl. They have the complication of Watched: Erwin Schrodinger (Maybe)"

"Let's say you needed some U-238 in a hurry..."

"Bottom of the Segment, bases are loaded"

"One advantage of having a high DCV is that you can clean the kitchen"

"In Soviet Lemuria, Shark jumps you!"

"Don't you know? Great White Sharks can't jump"

And then this little gem from the Champions game:

The team are presented with their three support staff: Hunky male secutary, plucky young female lawyer and PRIMUS liason

Skadi: Which one of them do you think is most likely to have super powers?

Portal Kombat: Probably the secutary, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the lawyer.

Skadi: On the other hand, she's a plucky young female lawyer; she can't lose a case. Its like a super power all of its own.

  2. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

From the Sunday Night Jokes Superhero game; the cast are:

    Zog, The GM

    Me, playing Skadi the Brick

Unit, playing Portal Kombat the teleporter

Annie, playing Geigermesiter who uses a magic violin

The group discuss origin stories for someone who uses a magical musical instrument...

Unit: They were in a plane flying over darkest Africa. The plane crashed, and they were the only survivor, a lone infant. They ere found by a pack of wild violinists who raised them as one of their own.

Geigermeister is attacked by a new villain, the dreaded Terror Tuba! He also wields an instrument as a weapon, albeit a different one. Soon he is joined by Skadi and Portal Kombat, and a battle ensues! (oops, I said ensues)

Skadi: You may be brass, but let’s see how you can handle percussion! (Full-STR punch)

The heroes decide that the best way to defeat Terror Tuba is to destroy his instrument. Portal Kombat and Geigermeister try to use their powers against it, but with little success

Zog: His tuba comes under attack from all directions!

Realising that he’s in trouble, Terror Tuba flees and uses his weapon to collapse the building that they were fighting in.

Terror Tuba: I’ll not endanger my precious tuba again!

Skadi: You evacuate the innocent bystanders while I hold up the roof. I’m the best equipped to survive a building falling on me.

As Terror Tuba escapes, Skadi considers the team’s newest enemy.

Skadi: He’s as bold as brass.

  3. Re: The Well of the Worlds

Well' date=' the Wild Mass Guessing has started. The players have different theories as to where they are. The common one is an artificial world somewhere. They're also trying to decide what kind of artificial world. At least one PC think he's in a Dyson Sphere.[/quote']

At least give him points for that. Dyson Spheres are cool!

  4. Re: The October Eight competition

If I may, I'd like to throw my own character Skadi into the pot. She was created for CO, but has since been moved to a 6E Tabletop game. Bio and images attached...

    History

Jill Vader’s life was, for the most part, none to extraordinary. A bit of an achiever, during high school she served as a member of several of the school’s sports teams when she wasn’t studying. However, it was her studies that were her principle focus. She excelled in science, specifically chemistry and biology. Intending to pursue a career in the field, she enrolled in university, aiming at a degree.

As a part of her studies, she managed to land a job as a lab assistant at Origins Chemicals, a leading chemical research and manufacturing firm. While fully aware of her junior position, she regardless was glad to be working in such a well-known and large company and gladly took whatever duties were offered – even if they did mean sitting in the lab overnight while experimental chemicals mixed and processed.

Unfortunately, it was during one of these late shifts that an accident occurred. An incorrectly mixed formula quietly bubbled away, reaching a critical mass under her nose – and blowing up in her face. The lab was wrecked but, strangely, Jill was unharmed save for a few small cuts and some bruises. Even though she was cleared by the doctors, she was given a week off work just in case there were any unexpected side effects.

There were, but not ones she had expected. Over the course of the next month, Jill began to dramatically grow, gaining over a foot in height while her mass increased considerably. She began to carefully monitor and document these changes, making sure to properly document the changes as well as any other side effects. The first that she noticed that was her eyesight had improved; she no longer needed glasses to read.

However, she also discovered that there were other changes. Her strength had increased dramatically, and had continued to grow to superhuman levels when she began accidentally destroying household objects. After being nearly hit by a car – she stopped it with her hands, crushing its front end in the process – she reached the conclusion that she had developed superhuman strength and endurance. She continued to carefully document these changes, using her spare time to go to scrapyards and see just how much she could lift.

After about a month, she found that her growth had stopped; she was now more then a foot taller then she had been, while her mass had increased dramatically to far more then it should have been given her tone and physique. Based on that, she reached the conclusion that her bones and musculature had become far denser then her proportional growth would suggest. Similarly, she found that her strength had stopped increasing.

Not outstandingly unusual (living in a city known as a centre for superhuman activities), Jill realised what she wanted to do. She had been given these powers, and, as such, it was her responsibility to use them to help others. At the same time, she felt rather growingly confident in herself and her abilities, and almost looked forward to the idea of using them.

Taking the name Skadi (form the Norse goddess of the hunt), she began spending her spare time prowling the streets of Millennium City, looking for a chance to use her powers. While her first few battles were low-key fights against muggers and other common criminals, it wasn’t long before she had her first battle against a true supervillain – sort of. She ambushed Droch, a supervillain Brick, and flattened him with a single punch, knocking him out in seven seconds. The battle (such as it was) was caught on-camera, and quickly spread across the media and the internet, both giving the anonymous superhero some degree of publicity while helping to bury Droch.

    Powers/Abilities

The chemical accident that altered Jill gave her superhuman strength and endurance. Her upper limits are unknown, but she knows she can lift –and throw – at least fifty tons, and isn’t afraid to try something heavier. (When she thinks nobody is looking, Jill will go to junkyards and industrial wastelands to find things to lift and throw to see what she can do). This has two other net side effects; Jill can hit hard; her blows hurt like hell and are enough to smash through metal or concrete. She can also leap long distances, simply due to how strong her legs are.

Besides just hitting things, Skadi has developed a number of “tricks” that she can perfume with her strength. She has become rather adept at creating shockwaves with her hits, the concussive force of her blows being enough to stun or incapacitate normal humans. She also rather enjoys picking up objects and throwing them at opponents as weapons; to her mind, the bigger an object is, the better a weapon it makes. She’s particularly fond of throwing trucks or other huge, unwieldy objects that can flatten several opponents at once.

Similarly, Jill is quite ridiculously tough, able to take hits that would flatten a normal person. While far from indestructible (Something she has found out the hard way), she is very resilient and hard to hurt. The end result is that she can be hit hard, and rarely suffer any serious injury as a result. Certainly getting thrown through walls, falling of buildings and hit with heavy objects will hurt like hell, but don’t seem to slow her down much. Exactly how much punishment she can take, much like the limits of her strength, is unclear; understandably, she’s been a lot less willing to experiment.

The chemical accident that altered her had one side effect; due to the chemicals now floating around her system, Jill is rather vulnerable to chemical poisons and toxins. They tend to have a greater effect on her through unbalancing her system. As yet, she is unaware of any way to treat this.

Aside from her superhuman abilities, Jill does have an extensive knowledge of chemistry, specifically chemical engineering and biochemical alteration. While not immediately useful in a pitched battle, Jill has been known to use these skills to develop counter-agents to weapons and abilities that her enemies may employ. These skills have been useful, aiding in the defeat of several of her enemies.

    Personality

Jill is bold, outgoing and somewhat reckless. She likes to think that she is, indeed, the strongest woman – nay person – in the world, and wants to prove it to anyone who will listen. Certainly she seems driven by some desire to prove herself. This, in turn, combined with her resilience, has given her a somewhat reckless edge; she seems to have very little regard for her own safety, instead being somewhat confident in her ability to take whatever hit is coming her way. This is yet to get her seriously hurt, but it could just be a matter of time.

Her super-strength has made her rather confident in her abilities; she prefers to fight stronger opponents and test her strength against those she faces. Secretly, she’d like to be known as the strongest person in the world, and actively seeks fights with other “bricks” to test her strength. She likes to stand up and be noticed, and could be borderline obnoxious in some cases. Simple fact is that she does seem to like attention; while she’s not the sort of person who demands to be the centre of everything, she likes to be in the loop and know what’s going on. And, every now and then, read a good book.

Jill’s powers are somewhat innate; they can’t be switched on or off; in essence, she’s always big, strong and tough. She’s lead her life being used to them being always there; she couldn’t dream of being without them. In fact, she’s somewhat afraid of what would happen if they were somehow removed; the thought of being “normal” is quietly terrifying. Her powers do have a few drawbacks; there’s the ever present concern of losing control and accidentally breaking something – or someone – from just casually handling them.

Above all else, she’s a fundamentally good person. While yes she wants to prove herself, she also figures that she can use the abilities she has been granted to help others. And probably get into a fight along the way.

    Appearance

The first thing anyone would notice about Skadi is just how freakishly tall she is. Just over two meters tall, she has a solid, muscular build. Her body is clearly toned and athletic, and would suggest a high level of fitness and strength even for someone who wasn’t superhuman. Despite this, she is still attractive. She has a nice face with long red hair, and blue eyes. Similarly, she still has something of a figure – which can be a problem, as that puts her not inconsiderable chest at eye level to most people.

Normally, Jill wears what are politely called “big mens” fashions, simply because of how hard it is to get anything in her size. She prefers slacks or jeans and button-up shirts, sometimes with a jacket if the weather demands. When in her civilian identity, she usually wears her hair tied back and also sports small glasses – they’re purely cosmetic. (She wore glasses before her accident, and keeps them as a form of disguise)

Her “uniform” as such consists of a form-fitting bodysuit that serves to enhance her figure and physique. Mostly shiny black, the costume sports vibrant purple designs. She does not wear a mask. People tend not to look at her face.

  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

From the third session of the Sunday Night Jokes, the Heroes (har har) are trying to stop a bunch of villains from releasing others from a prison van. The payer of Geigemeister, a Violin-Playing Mentallist, comes up with this gem:

"Can I use my poweras to make the prisoner think he's in his aparment, instead of in the van?"

The GM okay this, so she then adds "And can I makeh im think that the guards are Bob Marley and Jimmi Hendrix?"

Which yelds a "Sure, why not".

And so, a little later, the GM gives this description. "Inside the van is a man in a prison jumpsuit. He looks very relaxed and happy. As you poke your head in, he smiles and waves. 'hey dude, me, Bob and Jimmi are chilling. Want in?'"

  6. Re: Is Defender the new Seeker?

Bah, Seeker is better then Nighthawk any day.

Now if I was building my "ultimate" version of the champions from those two teams, hmmm...

*Defender (Given. Same guy, but at leas I'd use his 5E costume)

*Quantum (I allways thought she had a lot of potential as a character and a potential second. Sapphite leaves me flat and feels too 'trendy' for my tastes)

*Ironclad (I prefer his "boisterous bruiser" persona over Obsidian being permenetly up himself)

*Witchcraft/Solitare (Um, much of mucness, really. Defender aside, they're the most interchanble)

    *Seker (CRIKEY!)

Which leaves the "Sixth man" position. Kinetic and Jaguar have nothing in common whatsoever, but are in contention for the slot. Still, I'd give it to Kinetic becuse he's more interesting, more memorable and, above all else, not Jaguar.

  7. ...becuse I suck with names, I'm stuck on trying to find the name for a superhero concept I'm putting together for a game.

The premise is that the chracter is actually the lovechild of two supervillains; she's more then a little embarrased about her past and, as such, is trying to be a superhero (And the parents dissprove of her "lifestyle choice", but hey, cheap laughs!). They have an array of generic fire powers (shoot flames, fire flight, set thigns on fire etc) but with the twist that it's all green fire. (Becuse green fire is an "obviously evil" power)

Problem is that I have all this but no actual name to go with it. Best I've been able to come up with is "Jade Flame" which, while nice, is also a little generic. So suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks

  8. Re: The Sunday Night Jokes (Champions Universe)

Session 1 – Not Ready for Prime Time

Rubberman is out experimenting with his powers, when he finds that the Millennium City Natural History Museum has been broken into. Checking the structure out, he finds that someone has gone in through one of the skylights, presumably after disabling the alarms. Looking inside the structure, he finds a man in Insectoid power armour, who identifies himself as Mantisman, stealing part of the insect collection.

A fight breaks out between the two; Rubberman tries to contain Mantisman, however, the supervillain manages to escape using his jet boots, dropping Rubberman from a great height while doing such. Fortunately, his rubber body absorbed the worst of it. As he escaped (leaving his booty behind), Mantisman commented that he was glad that Rubberman “Wouldn’t be at Channel 11 on Monday”

Meanwhile, Timeshift is at work when a huge man (eight foot tall!) walks into the store and demands to know where the liquor is. Having gotten his directions, he then starts drinking the liquor in the store without paying, and menacing several young women, saying that he’d be a rich man “come Monday”. Not wanting any trouble, Timeshift used his powers to literally throw the man out of the store.

Outside, a fight broke out between the young hero and the man, who called himself Onslaught. The two fought, Timeshift using his powers to surprise his larger opponent. Realising that he was in trouble, Onslaught retreated, challenging Timeshift to face him again “On Millennium Morning”

Across town, Portal Kombat was just leaving a bar as another man entered – a man with metallic gauntlets. Approaching the bar, the man, calling himself Buzzsaw demanded the contents of the register, warning the bartender that he had buzzsaws! Portal Kombat responded by opening a portal under the bar’s Jukebox and then dropping it on Buzzsaw’s head.

Taking the fight outside, Portal Kombat managed to defeat Buzzsaw (who he mistakenly thought was called Buzzsauce) before the villain got even a shot of by simply dropping a pool table on him. Interestingly enough he found a security key card for Channel 11’s studios on the villain.

Not too far away, Skadi was looking for criminals to beat up. An explosion at a convenience store grabbed her attention. As she arrived, she saw a man stepping out with glowing yellow eyes, wearing a garish red and orange costume and carrying a skateboard and the cash register. She demanded that he surrender, and then mocked his fashion sense, calling him a kid and a walking 90s cliché.

This enraged him and caused him to attack her; using his powers, he slammed her with the cash register, which caused it to explode. This only caused her to mock him further, pointing out that he’d just destroyed his reason for robbing the store. The two fought, with Skadi getting the upper hand. Eventually, he used telekentic abilities to entangle her and escape; however, as he fled, he said that he would be at “Channel 11 on Monday Morning at nine”

Four different investigations revealed two interesting facts: The first was that Channel Eleven had a Weekday Morning chat show known as Millennium Morning. The second was that Monday’s show would have mayor Calvin Biselle on as a guest. As a result, four superheroes independently wound up stalking out the same station, which featured as a convenience a massive flatscreen display on the outside with the stations; current programming.

Skadi noticed Portal Kombat first. Leaping over to him, she complimented him on his dress sense and then asked what he was doing here. As he explained, they also spotted Timeshift and Rubberman. The four of them exchanged information, eventually reaching the conclusion that the four villains that they had fought had come to Channel Eleven to take Mayor Biselle hostage. From there, they considered their course of action.

Only to be cut off by a shout over the external display. Looking over, the four of them watched as, on screen, the presenter of Millennium Morning and Mayor Biselle were taken prisoner by the four villains they had previously fought – Mantisman, Onslaught, Buzzsauce and the nameless fourth man. Another villain entered the frame, a muscular man wearing a garish black, brown, orange, blue, purple and white costume. He announced that he was Power Crusher, the leader of the Power Crusher Gang. He had taken Biselle hostage, and wanted two million dollars for each of his gang (and after a pause added that was ten million dollars).

The four of them decided to work together to defuse the situation and save the mayor. Using the security card Portal Kombat had found, they entered the station, heading towards the studio for Morning Millennium. Once there, they managed to observe the studio without being spotted, and formed a plan. Timeshift would use his abilities to stop time and rescue Biselle and the presenter, then the four of them would beat up the bad guys while the hostages got away.

The first part went off without a hitch; as far as the Power Crusher Gang were concerned, the hostages simply disappeared. Before they could figure out what happened, the four heroes stormed onto the set, determined to take them out, despite being outnumbered.

The battle was surprisingly one-sided; while Power Crusher was able to drain some of Skadi’s strength, she was still able to face off with him. Buzzsauce tried to shoot her with his Buzzsaw launchers, only to find that they were completely useless against her. To make his day even worse, Timeshift used his powers to dismantle his gauntlets – and then Power Crusher’s.

While they had only just met, the four heroes turned out to work well together, while the Power Crusher Gang seemed to have very little to do with each other. Rubberman used his limbs to tie up both Mantisman and the anonymous fifth man, while Portal Kombat decided to drop cameras and other film equipment on the members of the Power Crusher Gang.

Pretty soon, the members of the Gang began to fall; first Onslaught and then Power Crusher himself. Mantisman managed to escape, and Buzzsauce tried to do the same. However, he found himself tied up by Timeshift. The final member of the group – the still nameless one – demanded that Skadi face him so he could get even for her humiliating him.

So Portal Kombat opened a portal under him, dropping him right in front of Skadi, who then punched him through the back wall of the set.

  9. The Sunday Night Jokes is the name for an ongoing gaming group that I’m a member of. After a hellish eternity of playing D&D the GM finally managed to convince them to play something else. Something else, in this case, being a Superhero Game set in the Champions universe. No mean feat, given that all bar one of the players have never played anything but D&D before.

Oddly enough, one of the players seemed to have anticipated the move, and relished the idea. Win.

Anyway, after first settling on the game (Champions universe, 6e, 400 points + 75 complications) and lot of work (teaching people the system was no mean feat, especially given that after years, one of the players still didn’t ‘get’ 3E D&D) and character creation, we had our cast of heroes!

Skadi – Played by Me – Chemistry student Jill Vader was exploded in a lab accident, which gave her the most common super power. It also gave her superhuman strength and stamina. Realising that she had gained these abilities, she felt that the only right thing to do was to use them to aid others and to fight crime. Besides, punching people is fun.

Skadi is nearly seven feet tall and heavily muscles, with long red hair and blue eyes. She wears a sleeveless black and purple costume with a hot pink trim. She doesn’t wear a mask, as a lot of people seem not to look at her face anyway.

Portal Kombat – After falling through a radioactive doorway, a young Computer Technician found that he had gained the ability to create portals and use them in a variety of ways. After being tutored by a PRIMUS janitor, he set out to fight crime. His primary motivation is simple – stupid people make him angry, and he feels that he can use his powers to stop people from being stupid.

Portal Kombat is a fit young man with blond hair and blue eyes. He wears a black and purple costume with a neon green trim.

Timeshift – A late-night shift worker at a supermarket discovered that he was a mutant with the power to stop the flow of time. Experimenting with his powers, he found that he could interact with other people and objects while time was frozen. Bored with his job, he decided to use his powers for the greater good.

Timeshift’s appearance has not been defined in any way, shape or form.

“Rubberman” – Placeholder name – A man fell into a vat of toxic waste during a superhuman battle. After an unknown amount of time in a rusty iron barrel, he emerged with no memory of his past or how he got there. However, he also found that he had a malleable body and shape shifting powers. He also had a dislike of superhumans, and felt that one was connected to his condition.

Rubberman so far wears a battered shawl. His appearance is otherwise undefined.

  10. Re: Superhero Images

The best thing about Champions Online is defintely its character creator; its an awesome way to make superhero images.

These two are a pair of characters from our freshly-started Champions game; Skadi, my character, is a Brick who gained her powers after a chemical accident. Portal Kombat can create portals and use them in a varirty of unusual ways.

  11. Re: A Super powered Nation

Skadi would smash the bomb. Sure, she'd make up some justifcation later aobut how a nation of supermen would only make htigns worse, how the damage done to his nation by the inevitable fighting would only harm more innocents and, in the end, the horrible military strongmen running the country would only get worse. But first smash bomb

  12. Re: We Screwed Up, Please Help Us...

Skadi - There is the potential of a fight. She'll happily help out to rescue the girl becuase of this. And, if she finds out that the two of them have a record, she'll then punt them as well. Besides, there is a realitvely innocent person in distress here, and she would help them regardless. Still... fight!

  13. Re: Female Master Villains

With them super-powered Lawyers' date=' did she need the black magic mafiosi? :D[/quote']

The black magic Malfosi were her thugs. The Lawyers were there to provide legal support. They were designated as "(something) Lawyer"; exmaples included Ninja Lawyer, Sharkman Lawyer, Skeleton Lawyer, HAL 9000 Lawyer, Zombie Lawyer and so forth.

Hey, when one of the PCs is a lawyer in secret ID who specialises in superhero cases, it leads to all sorts of whackiness.

  14. Re: Worst Hero Names (of your campaigns)

The Champions pseudo-continuity some friends and myself ran on CO had some pretty outstanding names. Highlights include:

Chilly McFreeze (an evil Japanese michael jackson impersonator with ice powers)

Revolver Ocelote (Ocelote from Los Assesenios, armed with Tombstone Kid's guns)

Shoto-Clone (A Martial artist with Duplication powers)

    Re-Pete (Another Duplicator)

    The Atomic Pimp

Codename Montezuma's Skeleton (A secret agent Skeleton in a tux and a crown, armed with an axe)

In an unrelated game, one player came up with the name Howling Wind for a vaugely native american elemental themed character. You can imagine how that went over.

  15. Re: Female Master Villains

The on-going metaplot myself and friends were working on in Champions Online featured a female master villain; Corproate Buyout, she was a cyborg demon CEO who commanded armies of battle droids, black magic mafosi and super-powered Lawyers in her bid for world domination.

Good times. Pty about the game.
