  1. Re: Proportional area attack I'll take a look at that. If it helps the special effect is electricity. It's supposed to be something like what a tesla coil does as it arcs around a room. Targets are people, and animals that would draw the current (a mouse would probably not be enough) along with roughly human sized (or larger) metal objects.
  2. Re: Proportional area attack Cause a discharge in a limited radius around the character, that arcs to the targets around him, but does less damage depending on how many there are. And really it's based on increments of the blast rather than actual DCs.
  3. I'm trying to make an energy blast that affects everyone in an AOE radius, and the damage is divided evenly among them. Further more it can only affect a maximum number of people based on the DCs used. For now I'll say 1:1 for ease of defining it.
  4. Re: Colored Lights I have to agree. I just wanted a second opinion. Also I'm still getting used to the differences in 6e and I seem to remember change environment having a lot more cosmetic effects on an area.
  5. I want to bathe a dark room in light with a bulb that emits a color other than white. Should that be a limitation on the Images power, or a linked change environment, to simulate the monochrome nature of the effect?
  6. Re: Hostile guidance system Yeah, the onboard computer is what I went with. And the missiles are fairly common, but no more then chain guns, lasers or almost anything else. We're driving mechs. Either way it's all worked out now. Thanks once again for all the advice!
  7. Re: Hostile guidance system Extra DCV is all well and good, but I want the likelyhood to be the same as the counterattack's. And even if I can ignore the anti-ranged rule how do i get it to go off. There's still the problem of it needing to be an abort or held action.
  8. Re: Hostile guidance system I suppose it could be a triggered mind control. And yes, it has to have the limited target (computerized guided missiles), limitation.
  9. I'm trying to build a defensive system into a vehicle that tries to hack into the guidance systems of incoming missiles, and redirects them to unfriendly targets, or points them in a generally safe direction. This sounded like a reflection to me, but there are a couple problems with that aproach. The first problem is that reflection can't be used at range and this would require a minimum range so there would be time to take the missile over, and turn it around (GM restriction) Second: the computer can redirect one missile at a time, with a succesful roll. That's fine except that reflect works off of blocking, and that requires a held action, or abort. Would a trigger make it always ready? Can that even be used with a maneuver like that?
  10. Can somebody explain to me why complications no longer make vehicles and bases less expensive? It seems to no longer be beneficial to take them except solely for flavor or because your GM forced you to.
  11. Re: Newbie and GM shouldn't go together. They've all agreed to a "Trial of Grievance" sort of thing. I really want to do it with all of them together since for instance, one of them has equal DCs to the others, but it's in the heal power. She uses little robots that she can deploy to make repairs, they also attack like little saboteurs that share the same charges in a multipower. And she can slap shield generators on the other mechs. The second (and more roguish character), took his idea from an old cage match game called One Must Fall. He has a slightly smaller mech with a neural interface and its stats are bought up so it can mimic his own movements. He uses a cloaking device to sneak around the battlefield and get combat advantages. The other two are more the tank on legs types from Mechwarrior, only one of them (the tank) has a giant chainsaw that looks like a sword. Which I found in the mecha chapter of the Ultimate Vehicle after helping him design the exact same thing. And he has a shield that fans out of his other arm. And the last one is all guns, jump jets, and some armor. He very much a blaster.
  12. Re: Newbie and GM shouldn't go together. That's all pretty much what I figured, I just thought I'd missed maybe a few suggestions for figuring out the level of challenge something should present, and everyone here has been very helpful in pointing out the right parts of the book, and giving me tips from their experience. From a total newbie perspective the "Gamemastering the HERO System" chapter all kind of ran together, and I didn't realize how important of couple of the little tips (all optional ones, no less) were to someone as inexperienced as me.
  13. Re: Newbie and GM shouldn't go together. It's probably worth mentioning that the character are going to spend a good deal of their time in the cockpits of mecha. I got the ultimate vehicle a while back and it's been pretty easy to convert. How come vehicle complications no longer reduce the price, though?
  14. Re: Newbie and GM shouldn't go together. Yeah. It's a good thing the PCs are all people I've known for 20+ years. They all know I'm green and are willing to stick with me while I get my barings. I'm afraid we still have a little bit of a D&D mentality, because we ended up with (what amounts to) a caster, a healer, a rogue and a tank.
  15. Re: Newbie and GM shouldn't go together. A lot of that advice is opposite from what I would get in other systems. I'm glad I asked on here before wiping out my friends in a game I promised would be fun. Well it looks like I have some reading and work to do so I'll get to it. Thank you to everyone.
