  1. Re: What does HERO Games have against >30 DEX, INT and EGO? You would be mistaken. I have run a significant portion of the games in which Zlf was involved. There has never been a problem challenging the PC. She has been snatched up by Fezzik, a Brick with a 5 SPD and 23 DEX because he had 5 HtoH combat skill levels. He misses a lot but when he hits she cannot leg sweep him away as he is a giant and heavy, she can't break loose because his STR was 75 and when she hit him, he did not take any STUN. She needed back up from the team Brick to hurt the baddie but he had her in grasp. She had to fight the Giant Spiders from Mars who had resistant defense and weak spots that would required her to get close enough to be hurt. The had a 23 DEX as well with three CSLs. She hits more but they hit harder. The average STUN per Turn was almost always a wash. Explosive and AE attacks against the team meant that tougher PCs were able to take a few hits but Zlf had to burn some of those numerous actions dodging out of the way. Look at this way. Zlf needs to hit an average Super villain four or five times to take them down. They need to hit her only once or twice. Zlf is likely to hit three times and maybe four in a turn. The baddies are likely to hit once and maybe twice during the same turn. The chances of either character going down has been pretty even, especially when the heroes have to rescue innocents or otherwise save the day. We are not talking about arena battles here. Zlf as been unconscious face down at least as often as any other PC in the campaign.
  2. Re: Future Knowledge I am running Flashman's grandson, Roger;) in a Pulp game in which the current year is 1906. He really believes his grandfather and is trying to live up to the image. As you say, no better reference.
  3. Re: Armageddon 1946 Wow. Fine openner. A little darker than our campaign group would run it, but superbly done.
  4. Re: The cranky thread God bless you, Lemming. I am sorry for your loss.
  5. Re: The cranky thread My prayers are with you, Lemming. I am very sorry to hear that.
  6. Re: Traveller Hero Launches! Wow. I have had to wing so many fights with whatever maps were available or ad libbed for all manner of Hero encounters that I must be the oddball. I can convert just about any map to make a fun Hero fight so long as the story is good.
  7. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Great to have you back, Doc.
  8. Re: Traveller=Pulp Hero+Star Hero Whedon did indeed describe Firefly as based on a post American Civil War ex Rebs in the Wild West converted to a science fiction setting, so I tend to agree with your POV.

  10. Re: To catch a clone Different knowledge bases would also revel the difference. A good detective should be able to catch the clone due to lack of the knowledge or experiences of the original.
  11. Re: Traveller=Pulp Hero+Star Hero Given the similarity in fell between Pulp and Space Opera literature, some of the same feel to Traveller, including anachronism, is to be expected, I guess.
  12. Re: Traveller Hero Update Ideally, Traveller Hero and T5 will create the synergy that everyone is hoping will benefit both lines. Like shadowcat, I will be buying both, partly since my Traveller history goes back to the "black box" days, and partly because some of the T5 improvements in Char-gen so farlook interesting.
  13. Re: Traveller Hero Update Yesss!
  14. Re: Traveller Hero Update I was curious as to the lack of news on the T5 or CoI web sites and I am not of a mind to pay for the moot at this time. Too bad.
  15. Re: Traveller Hero Update Thanks for the great response Polaris. While I am as impatient as the rest of the fans, we want the product done right, so we'll trust you to release it when it needs to be.
  16. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I am reading the Scoundrel Worlds(Star Risk) series by Chris Bunch, whom I really liked for his Sten series. Two dimensional, unlikable, characters and repetetive, unbelievable action have resulted in a rather disappointing read.
  17. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Mrs. Mentor is fostering kittens for the Animal Rescue League again. Invariably, the fatality rate for these too young or too sick kittens is around 50%. I hate having to deal with the emotional ups and downs of getting attatched and losing them.

  20. Re: Traveller-era guns I freely admit that I disliked the "slug throwers in space" concept until Firefly made it work, complete with having to put "Vera" in a space suit to fire in vaccuum.
  21. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Wasn't Al Gore the Hollywood poster child for narrow minded judgementalism before he became their darling? What a difference a couple of decades makes.
  22. Re: The cranky thread I am the primary breadwinner. Actually, now I am the only breadwinner. My wife homeschools the kids, feeds and keeps house, and is in charge of our social life. I definitely have the easier job. Don't tell her that, though.
