  1. Re: Icons - The Costume and Superpowers Store This whole thread reminds me of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Season Two, Halloween - Where the Chaos Mage Ethan Rayne turns everyone into their costumes on Halloween. And you would not beleive how much Fan Fiction that one single episode generated... sheesh
  2. Re: Teen superhumans but no adult ones Ditto The Covenant...
  3. Re: How would YOU apply this attack? No Worries. I wouldn't run it any other way... too much time playing DnD I guess Besides, considering Martial Manuevers are a 1/2 phase action, two in one phase screams "Full Phase Action!!!" And I've had a love/hate relationship with Autofire for HtH combat ever since I started playing HERO back in 2000.
  4. Re: The City of ???? Color me confused... Never heard of it... what RPG system is it for?
  5. Re: How would YOU apply this attack? And here I was certain I had the CV's correct. At least I had the damages correct. I don't have 5Er, just Fred. So either I'm reading it wrong or they changed something cuz according to Fred pg 51 anyone with Two Weapon Fighting ignores the first -2 penalty for using Sweep (which means the first attack with each hand is unmodified for Sweeping). And on Page 263 it says the -2 penalty only applies to each attack after the first, and adjustments to OCV from Martial Manuevers are not cumulative, they apply only to the individual attacks. So is it a version change or did I misread something (and please bear with me, I haven't had access to my HERO books for the past 4 1/2 years and have been playing nothing but DnD 3.5 *shudder*)
  6. Re: The City of ???? Mk 2 clsage - not a bad idea concerning the orgin of the city. Could be something left behind by the Progenitors or the Empyreans. I was thinking more along the lines of this:
  7. Re: The City of ???? More and more I'm liking Avalon D.C. *consulting the great god Google...* Okay good. There isn't an Avalon, New Hampshire. Now then. Sports teams. Any thoughts? I may scratch a couple of sports depending on feedback.
  8. Re: How would YOU apply this attack? I've a similar problem with a Character I'm building. Please bear in mind I'm playing 5th Ed Character STR 15, Dex 15 Weapons: Two Short Swords 1d6+1 HKA, AP Martial Manuevers - Martial Disarm, Martial Block, Martial Strike, Offensive Strike, Defensive Strike CSL: +2 HtH Skills: Two-weapon fighting Talents: Ambidexterity Normally he would get a Two attacks at OCV 7, DCV 3; 2d6 AP. I get that even though he has 15 STR, he only adds +2 DC AP to each Sword. But what about the Martial Manuevers? And do I add both STR and Martial Manuever to the Weapon Damage, or is it One or the Other? The Martial Arts section of combat just says "When a character uses a Martial Maneuver with a weapon, substitute the weapons's damage for "STR" listed in the Damage/Effects Column, and consider any added damage as added Damage Classes, not added d6's" So, for example my character was in melee with two individuals and wanted to attack one with a Martial Strike and the Other with an Offensive Strike, is the following correct? Total DCV: 3 (Half of 5 plus +1 from the Offensive Strike) Thug A - Martial Strike OCV 7 ; 2.5 d6 HKA AP (4 DC AP Sword, +2 DC AP STR, +2 DC Manuver) Thug B - Offensive Strike OCV 5 ; 3d6+1 HKA AP (4 DC AP Sword, +2 DC AP STR, +4 DC Manuver)
  9. Re: The City of ???? I'm glad I could inspire you.
  10. The City of ???? Mk 2 In 2003, 10 miles off of the coast of New Hampshire, an island appeared over night. On the island was a city complete in every way - except for it was unoccupied What's more, the city was more advanced than anything ever seen by man outside of Super-Level technology. All of the systems needed to operate a city were present: water, heating/cooling, electricity, sewage, public transport, roads, even a working Fusion Power plant whose energy output was 10 times what was needed to power the city. In addition to all of this there were factories filled with configurable machinary to mass-produce nearly anything anybody could want. The health-care facilities were decades beyond what anyone had. And finally, each of the apartments and houses in the city had limited food-produciton systems. After 5 years of research, the US Government had decided to open the city to the public as a Government District (just like Washington DC). An interim civic government was established, and free elections are planned for 2012. The major office buildings and produciton sites were auctioned off to various corporations and the houses were awarded by national lottery. The city has the following amenities: A Football stadium, Soccer stadium, Hockey stadium, Basket Ball stadium, and a Baseball stadium. A fusion reactor (fuel source: heavy water) A Heavy-Water extractor A Water-treatment plant (to recycle sewage into water with minimal waste) A De-salinization Plant (to turn sea-water into usable water; also feeds the heavy water extractor) A fully functional Subway and Monorail system. An international airport. A Sea-port A Zoo A Museum A bridge to the mainland (an add-on by the US Gov't) The city itself is the size of New York. An estimated 12 Million Americans already live there, and the city is only ¾ occupied. Just as in Millenium City, self-driving cars are the standard. The primary industries available are: Reverse Engineering of the Technologies Manufacturing Maintenance Education Civil Jobs (administrators, trash-men, etc) Law Enforcement Corporate Jobs (Multiple start-up firms have their corporate headquarters in the City of ????) What I need help figuring out is the following: - The Name of the City - The Name of the City's sports teams (I myself am not familiar with the rules/regulations of professional sports, but if someone establishes a new team able to become part of the Pro Leagues?) - Ideas of where the Island came from (I kinda-sorta have an idea, but haven't decided yet. Additional ideas can be used as conspiracy theories/urban legends) Any flaws/holes you can think of. Any other comments or sugguestions?

  12. Has anyone done any HERO conversions of John Ringo's Into the Looking Glass series? I would be really interested to see what people came up with for the Dreen, Adar, and Hexosehr... especially after the last book (Claws that Catch). And yes, Mr. Ringo does in fact use that Acronym for the Blade's designation.
  13. Re: Icons - The Costume and Superpowers Store "I think I'll take this one." "Ah yes, 'The Saint.' This particular outfit come with... conditions." "Conditions?" "Yes. You must pay for it by stealing from the criminal and corrupt and giving all of the proceeds to those whom need it - charities, churches, orphanages, and such." "Why not call it the Robin Hood?" "Too cliche." "Gotcha."
  14. Re: How to build: Aliens You may want to look the Star HERO forum for "xenomorphs." Here're the threads I found yesterday: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/78549-I-love-me-some-xenomorphs and through that I found this: http://surbrook.devermore.net/adaptationscreatures/movies/alien.html Hope this helps some. Though I wonder if anyone has noticed that the variant of ALIEN that pops out of some poor soul's chest is based upon the species of the intial host (Alien 3, AvP: Requiem - even though the Preda-Alien was rediculously over-powered IMHO)
  15. Re: Must have books If I remember I'll send you PM when I do finally get around to posting that thread.
  16. Okay, I've been out of the loop for a while (my last Champs game was back in 2004) and I haven't been keeping up on current gaming events. For runnning a 5th Ed CU campaign, what books are absolutely critical? I currently have HERO System 5th Ed, CHAMPIONS Genre Book and CU. I've already heard about CU: News of the World. Any other recommendations? I don't know what city I want use as a playground, er, setting. So I don't know if I want to track down Millenium City or not...
  17. Re: Random Subplots And the fact that there is a Media Coverage table helps with fallout from the adventures themselves. The last campaign I ran (a while back I'm ashamed to admit) I would write up short ariticals about what the public knew and spin it either positively or negatively. This could potentially do half of the work for me in that regard. And as for using it for Hunteds and DNPC's, rolling on the chart each time for each Hunted/DNPC that shows up will definitely provide some options - especially when one character has both his DNPC and his Hunter show up in the same adventure. I can easily see romantic DNCP's briefly dating the Hunter or the Hunter somehow finds the link between the DNPC his quarry and kidnapping said DNPC. Cliche, but if it aint broke why fix it?
  18. Re: Any voip/skype super games? at all? I've looked up skype and it looks handy. I could possibly be willing to run/play a game that was run on skype, but can you do conference calls over skype? and how would you handle dice rolls? The only problem I'd have is I don't have a mic for my notebook. Kytanos, feel free to shoot me an email if you don't want to tie up the message board. Just put HERO in the subject header so it gets sorted into the right folder. you may reach me at hvm2k2@live.com
  19. Re: Random Subplots I think your subplot generator is very well thought out. And it can be used for out-of-game story threading. I definitely plan on using this. Should you decide to "beta" the PDF by adding basic instructions and your usage examples, I would be very interested in downloading that version as well. I also think you should put your name on it. Credit should go where credit is due. And maybe Steve and the others will put this in the 6e version of the genre book for Champions. Props
  20. I'm in the process of setting up a Champions campaign, and am trying to figure out what City to use as a playground... er... location for my campaign to take place. Then it hit me harder than Grond's fists at full rage: make something up. So here's an idea for those who are interested to share feedback (positive or negative): In 2003, 10 miles off of the coast of Delaware and Island suddenly appeared. It wasn't there one day, and the next it was. The island was approximately 300 square miles in area and occupied by a sizable city. The city was unoccupied, had no markings or signs of any sort, and was devoid of machinery. All of the buildings in the city were empty shells - they had elevator shafts, ventilation systems, plumbing, etc - but not the machines/equipment needed to regulate said systems. After much study (I'm thinking 5 years) by the U.S.A. the city was opened up to the public for habitation. To help bolster the economy and raise revenue for the Middle-East conflicts, The US Gov't bid out most of the buildings to private interests and established a temporary civic government with the plan that by November 2 2012 free elections would take place. Ideas I'm currently looking for are: What should the name of the city be? What state would the city belong to, or would it be considered a District akin to Washington DC? Where the City came from (mainly looking for ideas to help flesh-out what I have planned). Any other realistic concearns (obvious flaws in my idea). Your feedback is appreciated
  21. Re: The Warlord's Other Hobby... You could "borrow" from Robotech/Macross Saga: An alien vessel teleports into a mountain side, causing a Mass Energy Event (nuclear-level explosion without radiation). Then throw in a little Stargate Universe as the ship teleports away while the PC's, Warlord, UNTIL, VIPER and who-ever else you want to add are trapped on board. Those onboard the derelict are seperated or forced into cooperation to survive - either way, the PC's need to find the Bridge and turn the ship around. Hazards include failing life support, diminished fuel cells, extensive damage throughout the ship, and maybe throw in the Xenovores for smiles and grins. That would give you a lasting campaign to play with.
