  1. First off and most important is I do like what you have here. All life is a product of it's environment. I feel that a recipe of races would work best if sorted by environment. "Tell us of your home world." How strong is your gravity? Zero G - up to 0.05g Low G - 0.05 to 0.75g Normal G - 0.75g to 1.5g High G - 1.5g to 2.5g Extreme G - Greater then 2.5g What is your Atmosphere like? None Thin Thick Dry Moist Volcanic Poisonous ... Abundance of water Vegetation Climent/Temperature ... As you can see far to many factors could effect a race's physical form and may features could be from many factors to try and sort them in any logical way. A Race with "Drifting Gasbag: Flight 12m (12 Active Points); No Conscious Control (-2) Real Cost: 4" Could be from a Low G worlds or a world with a Thick Atmosphere so would it go in the section on low G or the one on Thick Atmospheres. So let us take a play from the magic system of our old friend DnD. There are many classes that can cast spells and some of them can cast the same spells. To save space in their books TSR defines the spells in an alphabetical list and for each class makes just a short list naming the spells available to them. So we detail the race features alphabetically and make a list of recommended features for each factor of a home world. And then there are the Cultural Distinctions... This could turn into one hell of a project. I find it hard to get new players for Hero Systems because they are so use to the restrictive nature of character generation of other systems that they get lost and overwhelmed by the freedom of Hero's. I would like to see a starting point book with pick one list for new players to cut their teeth on. There are many source books for genres but they just build up back stories and set stages. None of them have a building your very first character by selecting options. Even the playing champions with your kids genre book does not have a simply pick some options and start playing section. I think it would be easy to convert players to the Hero System if we just had a starting point that took some of the complexity out of character generation.
  2. Books? I very much prefer books! What are the titles of the books and by whom? My search for "Expanse" on my sources of books site while giving me space operas it is also yielding romen/greek philosophies as well as "Life of Pi". The list is also in the over 50 range and may miss my target books entirely so a little guidance would be helpful in the narrowing down my search. A good visual example of effecting inershal mass on orbiting bodies would be at the circus. The acrobats can change the speed of the large wheel by changing their positions in/on the smaller rings. while this is being done in gravity they are moving large masses by making relatively small changes in the center of gravity and I am sure once they get the wheel going earth gravity is having only a minor effect.
  3. Was more looking for game ideas I figure there are way to many movie review sites if I needed to be counted as someone that liked the movie. If any of you actually role play in the Hero System do you have any ideas on the Jupiter Ascending universe as a playable genre. A member of the royal blood lines have some control over bees. They did come to her defiance making them a uncontrolled or semi-controllable attack would it be a power or just a side effect of the royal bloodline perk and the bees just have the psychological limitation must come to the aid of a royal. There are many powers that could have the Swarm of insects special effect. Or would it be Animal handing elevated to the level of a power. or a heavily limited mind control power. Is this enough of a benefit to justify the points.
  4. Many years ago I played in a game where we were given the basics of the magic system, the technolagy of the age, and a very vag turain map. We were the learders of villages. We each got to clam a piece of the plato in the midle of the map. we role played out how our villages got along and how we interacted with the pots cities to the East and the jungle comunities to the south. To the West was a vast Dessert that would spit out a trade carravan every few years from some far off lands. Now to the North there were these black towers that started to apear. In a few weeks of ingame time more were spoted closer and closer. The Magic system used elemental spirits captured by places of focused elemental energy. when you released the elemental from its confinement it did you a faver like a geiny wish limited to what the elemintal could do. So as the towers incroched on our plato we sent earth spirts to knock them down. The power of the towers made the defending earth spirits stronger and in short order the plato was over run by these towers and the spirts commanded by the owners of the towers were imposably strong. I was a hope less task to stop them once the towers had gained infulance over the whole plato the game secion came to an end with "And that is what has been going on in the world. Do we want to be refugies fleaing to the jungle comunities. Do we want to be freedom fighter on the plato? ... " We went with the venture off into the dessert. I felt I undersood where my charactor was coming from and enjoyed helping build the world history that molded my charactor and we could always reset and be freedom fighters or take our chances at sea. or warn the jugle comunities of the imposing Towers headed their way. I would like to try GM'ing this technic on a Space Opera Campain leting each player be a galactic federation and letting them roleplay out the history of the univers
